It's music like this that I was a country fan, but can't stand what is being played on the radio today with a very few exceptions. Another words I don't listen to country anymore.
@Gatorsailor3 country music today is what pop was in the 80s djs today cant play what they want music is controled by a handfill apeople who thinks what teenagers would like what happen to the singers who wrot their own music and sang it they find the better looking young people sync what they think would make them the most money music today sucks and is would be no hank willie or all the old greats before mid 90s garth brooks killed music row took the twang and his money with him
@moneyman4373 I'm 17 an I've felt the same way since I was your age. While new country is good, nothing compares to the greats of yesteryear.Kepp on this road and I promise you,you will live a happy life
Several years back, Willie did an outdoor concert in Key Largo Fla. Mom was too frail to sit in the audience, but my nephew parked his camper behind the stage and let it be known that day was her birthday... Willie turned his back to the audience and sang Happy Birthday to her...........We got it on tape..............
Well, a very handsome Willie Nelson. I remember this awards show on tv. Such a beautiful song. Unfortunately Bee Spears, the bass player passed away this past December 2011. It's sad to see him missing in current shows. Can you imagine how they felt the first time they played without him. Heartbreaking for sure.
@mrblisterfist Look, its OK to like Willie Nelson but you don't have to like him so much that you deny the obvious. Listen to Willie in this video then compair it to anything he's done recently and you will see that now now most of the time he's just talking his way through songs he doesn't even really sing them.
@IamtheBurceDickenson When I looked I heard a slight deterioration in the vibrato, but I also noticed that he only did it when it fit which improved the song over all. I also noticed an improvement on his fret work. Sounds like he matured/evolved/grew.
@mrblisterfist Just click on the link on the right side of the page of him doing the same song in 2009 and you will see what I mean. It is undenyable.
Old enough to remember this on TV. That was when Willie, Waylon, Kris, Cash and the boys were OUTLAWS!!! They made the best music...timeless and GREAT!!!!
The only thing wrong with Nelson's version of this classic is that he removed the 3rd verse of the original song recorded 30 years earlier by Roy Acuff. (Yes, that's right, Nelson's version is a cover.) I'll try to post Acuff's original sometime soon for those interested.
1974, camping on the Eastern Shore of VA with John, then husband, our 2 kids, & his parents. John & I sittin' in the van, everybody else asleep in the tent...this song comes on the radio. Willie, 36 years later I still love you & this song!!
@pegsue42 nice, very nice. its funny how something so simple can actually be not just a blessing but a memory a stranger wants to relive along with you. I think its envy but im not sure I hope you and john are well off. I was 4 in 1974.
The hat he is wearing is a "LSD" Lone Star Dude, purchased at the Mad Hatter in Austin, which no longer exists. Everyone use to go there from Burt Reynolds to Waylon and Willie.
oh, i think i've heard of this guy. apparently he went on to play Uncle Jessie in the Dukes of Hazzard movie.

Gene Vincent´s 1959 version of this often recorded song is my number one favorite but I have to admit that Willie Nelson´s version is almost as good.
