please can someone help? I've heard this technique doesn't reach the frontal sinuses (above each eyebrow). i have an infection here, how can I flush these out?? Is it safe to put my head backwards so my nose is facing the sky, fill my nostrils with salt water, pinch them closed and then bend over so my head is between my legs? Will this reach the frontal sinuses? Anyone with tips pls let me know your technique.
@MrWristspinner sounds like a shortcut to a serious headache. There is an Ayurvedic technique called Nasya (part of Panchakarma) which involved heated medicated ghee and qualified therapists. Sounds like what you need.
@TheChakrahealer - That's okay, just observe what happens. Most people breathe predominantly through just one nostril, so it is very common for the water to flow more freely on one side than the other. If it's very uncomfortable then just practice on the side where it flows easier - the water is still going through both nostrils.
in case you have nasal problems an indian herb called giloy(reintroduced by baba ramdev) is like the complete cure for asthma i mean cure!! also for any nasal problems. i recommend you learn this technique from someone otherwise if you get water in your head itll cause problems afterwards nice try though!!
use luke warm water dont push it in any way just breath through your mouth it will flow properly.its not supposed to go out of the eyes . ive been learning and doing for an year now and there are other exercises you must do before this including drinking from your nose ,gargling then after this you do sutra neti which completely cured my polyp problem without an operation!!! in any case for those of you who opt for operation it grows back but not after sutra neti
you got it all wrong!!! never tilt your head sideways it will cause water to go in all wrong directions try to keep your head straight to do so place your free hand under your chin ll to the ground (to keep your head straight) it may seem that the water is not comming out of your other nostril cause we are not kepin the head straight either leaning it forward or backward but keep it straight
do not push the water let it calmly rise through one nostril and go out of another luke warm water
hello dude you got it all wrong!!! you are never i mean i cant stress enough never tilt your head sideways it will cause water to go in all wrong directions . i would like to say that try to keep your head straight . to do so place your free hand under your chin paralell to the ground (this will keep your head straight)and then do it .
One more thing. I was scared to use salt in my water at first, so I did it only with pure drinking water. Do you think its good or bad and if bad than plz explain why. Im still not using salt and if I do its like 1/10 of a tea spoon. I was afraid of the salt due to my eye canal problem and the water that was leaking throu my eye. What do You think about that ?
This is the first time I have heard of water coming out of the eyeball, but obviously if that is what is happening then it is possible.
You have to use some salt to achieve the correct degree of osmotic pressure (the saline/salt water solution stimulates the mucous membranes through osmosis). If you don't use salt you will (and apparently have) experience a burning sensation. The whole body is salty - think of all the liquids, blood, tears, urine - all taste salty.
@Bzymas The ideal level of saltiness is the same as tears or blood - it must taste salty, but nowhere near the same level as sea water for example. You can read more on this link.
And by the way. I got one question to YogaNowMalaysia. Is the water going out of your eyeball aswell or is it only me and some people that suffer from it ;P ? I wont quit doing it anyway so its just a question for other peoples to know that if they have this problem aswell.
Hello I got some info about burning sensation. The 3 option of burning is when water gets to your lacrimal canal ( the one that goes from your nose to your eye). Notice if the water is leaking throu your eyeball and does your eyes get red. If they do that means u suffer from it not the salt. I had it and its still a pain but im doing it anyway and feal better and better. So keep on the good work. And sorry for my bad english but i tried as much as possible to make myself clear. Good luck all :)
Great video. I've been doing Neti for awhile now but decided I wasn't going to pay for packets of salt anymore. Tried Diamond Crystal Salt and it burned my nose. Mixed it with baking soda and it was ok but took a long time to dry my nose. Today I tried Celtic Sea Salt that I had ground myself. No baking soda was used. Worked like a charm with pure, Celtic sea salt.
Hi akamizzT - If it burns really bad it could be for 2 reasons - 1 - The water is too hot - it should be at body temperature and no hotter (if you can't hold your finger comfortably in it, then its way too hot. 2 - the second reason for a burning sensation is that you are using too much salt. For a small pot like the one I'm using in the video you want a little less than a level teaspoon of salt.
Also check your salt has no additives - iodine is okay. You want the water to be as salty as tears or blood - definitely not as salty as sea water, unless you have a head cold and really want to purge.
Headaches usually happen when the water gets lodged in the upper nasal tract and the sinuses - this can happen if you blow your nose too hard after neti. An option is to snort back the mucous and then spit it out - your less likely to drive any excess water into the sinuses that way.
Thank you. The odd thing is that I only use a half teaspoon of salt for my Ancient Secrets Nasal Cleaning Pot and I make sure the water is just right. The first time I ever used it, I had no problems. However, now I notice that the water seems to get stuck or something because it doesn't flow through my nostrils easily. When that happens (gets stuck) I have to stop and hold my head from the horrible burning sensation. I may get the one you have or Naso Pure.
@akamizzT Sounds very unpleasant. i would be surprised that it's the pot - i think the ancient secrets pots are glazed ceramic so there should be no chemical leaching there. Maybe the salt you are using (is it the ancient secrets one again?) I've been using ordinary household table salt for years. The water should flow out the opposite nostril though and if that's not happening either there's a problem with your nose or your technique.
@YogaNowMalaysia You could try holding the head back a little and let the water come down your throat and out your mouth if it really won't come out the opposite nostril. If you think its the salt burning then maybe try and mix in a little sodium bicarbonate (baking soda) to 'soften' the water. if the water isn't flowing out at all I wouldn't advise to keep pouring. Another thing you could do, is get some very salty water (as salty as sea water) & snort up just a palm full. Might unblock things

@vibhuindia Gravity becomes a bit of a problem then - usually water doesn't flow upwards.

Try relaxing in child's pose or even just a standing forward bend to let gravity drain out any excess water. Hope all this helps.

@YogaNowMalaysia Too little salt can burn as well.
.
Some people need to buffer like you described (with soda/natron).
.
Thanks for the great and informative video and comments! ^^

@akamizzT
When you mix the solution taste it in your mouth. If it tastes really salti then add more water, it should taste just a little bit salty.
When you outhale the water dont block your other nostril (unless there is absolotely no blockage and the water is flowing really freely).
Check the youtube for shat karma videos.
