To be honest I don't think common sense is very easy to determine. You are right that she does probably have common sense when it comes to some things, and not others. But when talking about policy makers we go way beyond common sense into complex policy issues. I'll admit, Obama wasn't steeped in experience, but at least we know he dips into his intellect to try and solve problems. Palin seems like the type who throws her bible at every problem.
