  • Great old time sound of a simple Vega (Little Wonder?). Whoever added the 5th string seems to have done a good job, and you play it wonderfully. Thank you.

  • oh, that was an attempt at humor. sorry fellas

  • I teach this tune for fiddle! You can view the lesson for free on my channel, or go check out my website. I post new lessons every week for fiddle, guitar, and mandolin. If any of you fiddle players were inspired by this tune and by this great playing, then you should come to my channel and learn to play it!

  • Thanks for the response! I'll send my email address to your info@zeppmusic address.

  • @stephenveef cool. Haven't seen anything yet, so if that doesn't work, try zepp@zeppmusic

  • I've been playing this song for a couple of years and it doesn't sound nearly as sweet as yours. Any chance you have this tabbed out? Thanks for the song. Steve.

  • @stephenveef I have a version of it tabbed out for teaching. Please send me an email address, and I'll happily send it to you.

  • hey zepp, you gotta quit lookin at the strings so much and make eye contact with the audience

  • @Threestaves Hmmm... You're right. I did look at my left hand towards the end there, didn't I. Sorry! :-)

  • @Threestaves i find eye contact to be really annoying and kind of gross. ZEPP RULES ive been watching these videos for a long long time

  • @Threestaves What's the problem with looking at the strings ? That's where the interesting things happen, not in the eyes of the player !

  • So nice. Love the relaxed style; you are clearly not so much playing as listening, a little gem of wisdom I picked up from a zen guitar book.

  • You're the man. Great pickin'.

  • Nice

  • Fine playing, zeppmusic. Excellent stuff.

  • This is SOOOOO good!!! The best banjo playin EVER!!!

  • you dont happen to have the tuning for this song....love to learn it

    cheers

  • I usually play this in "double D," i.e. aDADE. On a normal scale I would capo to this tuning from gCGCD, but on this shorty, I just tuned up. I don't know if I was really at pitch, but it should be close to there...

  • This presentation is very impressive, thank you

  • Thanks for the quick description of the instrument and of course the song. I have just acquired a style n that appears to be from around 1922 and your mention of the violin tuners might be helpful to me. Any advise on what I should look for when getting a violin tuner for a banjo? Thanks for the video

  • The "Suzuki" style is what I use, as they merely clamp onto the strings between the tailpiece and bridge. Of course, if you don't mind spending some money (ca. $100) you could always install planetary tuning pegs.

  • Thanks for the info - I think ill try your setup first. Much appreciated

  • If you guys are looking for better clawhammer, you had better kill yourself now, it doesnt get any better, I promise!

    This is AWESOME!

  • I do love your playing . Thanks Don ..

  • That's just great! Well done;)

  • That's just great! Well done;)

  • It is a gem! Both player and banjo!

  • Next song I'm going to learn is that one, just the way you play it. I've got a version, but it's not as nice as that. I'm going to start with that tuning and give it a shot.. Should be fun.. It's a good video to learn from 'cause I can see your hands...

  • What a great way to start the morning...a friend sent a link to balladofamerica and that led me to this! I love the banjo and the sound is absolutely wonderful...I have been playing clawhammer style for about 20 years...didn't realize there were so many players out there.

  • AHHHHHH awesome!! One of my favorites. What is that banjo tuned to? GDGBD?

  • Tuned up close to aDADE (double D).
