  • I use a Mac, so would it be a good idea to get Windows 7 on my Mac?

  • @Rahrgaust If you feel a need for it. Try Bootcamp.

  • @Rahrgaust No, but it would be a good idea to get at least one more mouse button and a 64-bit compatible kernel, try installing Ubuntu!

  • Can windows 7 derp as much as a herpderpah derps on the herp derp herp derp derp?

  • @brandonhud60 What? :S

  • @brandonhud60 you mean ur a derp?

  • @MasterOfLava9 Sup Rofl <-HK4Ever..

  • @iWuvLawl dude sup lmao

  • rml695? I need to let you know that the audio and video are not in sync. Having this been said. I thought that you could upgrade from Window XP to Windows 7. No? Please advise. I know that I have seen that on the mswebsite, you can. Good video. keep them coming. :)

  • You look sooo coool where can i get some glasses like that?

  • @ToooQwicK They are prescription. The last pair I got about a year ago cost around $500.

  • @rml695 Was it made in Italy, Ti frame? lool

  • @stdiosus The glasses? Not sure where they were made.

  • i went straight from xp to 7

  • @killeringa Nice :)

  • And Virtual PC 2007; with Windows 7, can you use Virtual PC 2007 on this? I have learned that it CAN emulate a Windows 95, but if Virtual PC 2007 can't work with Windows 7, then the reputation of this software is a mood point.

  • That is something I'm unsure of at this time.

  • With a retail install disc you can install it on any computer.

You can only UPGRADE from an existing copy of Vista or the Win7 RC/Beta.

  • Well at least that answers my question on whether I can upgrade directly from RC1. Thanks.

  • If you like JAWS have you looked into Jawsus?

  • What would you tell me if I told you I've never even heard of it?

  • This is rediculous, you dont have to buy a new machine if you have XP and dont wanna get Vista.. I did it...

you just chuck in the disk, and let it install on a partitioned hard drive. Bam!

  • That makes no sense saying, You cant go from Xp to 7, that is like saying you can't go from 95 to vista. I can't Believe what i have just herd ! you absoutley can jump from xp to 7. that is like saying Microsoft would try to cheat you out of money to buy vista than 7. Makes no sense !! I don't know where you got this info probably some internet blogger. Please use trusted information.

  • If you go XP to 7, you MUST clear ALL data. With Vista you can keep your data if you wish. There was also one condition where you must upgrade to Vista first, before upgrading to 7, but I think that's also related to upgrading while keeping your data in tact.

  • That is not true.

I had Windows XP SP3 and i've installed Windows 7 Pro just a few hours ago. It did not clear all my data and i had not to do so myself.

Instead, it leaved D:\ disk without changes and it created new folder on my System C:\ disk called "Windows.Old" where all my old files and folders are.

  • Really? That's interesting, considering the box & info I found clearly stated that you had to do a clean install, backing up all stuff manually before installing...?

  • No, he is wrong. You can easily reformat and install a fresh copy of windows 7... Regardless of what OS you have at the time. The upgrade function would only be available to Vista users but who doesn't want a fresh copy anyway.

  • Note the time when this was recorded. I have since gone from XP to 7 on my handheld UMPC.

  • I think so. Again, this is only what I've read. It may change.

  • No you can! You can install windows 7 on any pc with any os on it! If you have vista though, the advantages is that you can UPGRADE, meaning that nothing will be erased from your computer after install Winows 7.

  • if you think of all the free programs bundled up with the mac it is worth it just sit and think about it

  • Many articles are gonna say Windows 7 is "worth it", generally speaking. It is all about business.

I haven't tried Windows 7, so I cannot feed any conclusion here. However, going by what I have covered, it seems to be what Vista should have been in the first place.

Is Windows 7 a perfect OS? No. None are perfect. However, from going to XP, to Vista, now to 7--- which costs money... are we really anything somewhat new?

Not digging heels here, but I am sticking with Slackware.

    ;-)

  • Yupp, I don't really see the need to have Windows 7, I suppose it's better than Vista (which won't be difficult) and since I would require a new PC all together, I'm pretty sure I will pass this aswell.

  • you're missing out then, you'll probably just have to get a installation cd.

  • and the javier guy says you can upgrade from xp, maybe you should look at 7 blog

  • It's only free the first year, untill next summer I think, then you have to pay the license.

  • You can upgrade form Vista, XP, and even 200!

However, you can only do an "in place upgrade from Vista" meaning that all your settings and installed software remain in place

  • Windows 7 while still most likely the best windows release of windows ever, mind you...its still windows, there will still be security issues...viruses, will need defrag...disk cleanups... ALL and all...same shit different kernal.

  • You mentioned the Sony memory sticks not working. I have a Sony Vaio laptop and have been using a MacBook Pro I've had more issues with using the memory stick from my camera with the Sony laptop than with the Mac Book. I just use the adaptor that came with the memory stick so I can plug it into the memory card slot and it popped up right away. With the Sony laptop I kept having to switch and try numerous times even when the laptop was brand new.

  • I just started using a Mac Book Pro. It costs more, but I didn't have to go out and pay $1000 for JAWS or any other screen reader because Apple has Voice Over which is included for free. It actually works a lot better than JAWS or Window Eyes. So it was actually a lot cheaper than buying a laptop with enough memory to run a screen reader, plus the screen reader on top of that. I'm never going back to Windows again!

  • eep! Your lips are time-traveling ahead of what you're saying in this one I'm afraid!

I just installed Windows 7 on my mac here =) I've been having some problems though later on, lots of program hooking-ups and freezes :( But it's still great since it was free and my trial for my installed vista had just run out!

  • Oh well Windows is better on those points.

But maybe apple will catch up in the near future.

I think both have their pros and cons. So if one works for you then its fine. but the best thing about computers is that you can put windows and leopard on your mac ligaly which is a plus. so you can have your cake and cookies too.

    lol
