This is only a sob story when someone cannot do math. Assuming a 56k download speed is truly 56kbs, that is 56,000 bits per second. Divide that by 8 to get kilobytes per second. 7,000 bytes per second is roughly equal to a plain, HTML webpage with no images on it (or about the size of the average Word document). Text webpages on a dial-up modem are no inconvenience. But like just about all liberal sob stories, you need to ignore mathematics.
