  • Hey could I put him in a 6-7 gallon tank and when he gets bigger I put him in my 75 gallon with my 3 goldfish and 2 dojo loaches? its not heated but it has massive filtration, 280 gallons of filtrationn

  • I've got a CAE, I've had him 3 years now and he is 10" long!

He has a face only a mother could love!

He gave up on Algae eating after a couple of months....

So far he's showing no signs of the common tactic of CAEs - attacking the other fish and trying to eat their body slime.

Probably because I always kept him well fed.

  • I just got 2 algae eaters today and some live plants that will solve my algae problem because I havent cleaned my tank in over a month because there are hidden baby swordtails and they keep popping everywhere so I didn want to hurt or stress the babies

  • If you have an algae problem, consider reducing the tank light to 2 hours a day until the algae disappears or is greatly reduced. The CAEs will eat algae, but not a noticeable amount!

  • Yes, the cory cat is still alive. It's been a year and a half now.

  • is your cory cat still alive? and does he do ok with the gravel?

  • Ahah! Is that a heated tank? Can algae eaters survive with goldfish?

  • No, that is not a heated tank. It is a Nano Cube 12 gallon tank. I don't have goldfish in here, so I don't know if CAE's survive with them or not. I would assume so.

  • Allrite, thanx for the info,

  • Actually goldfish and chinese algae eaters do not get along well, and it is recommended not to put them in the same tank.

  • Ok, thnx for the info.

  • But those r zebra fish in the back, I hav zebra fish with my goldfish, they're all fine so far.

  • well does your tank have a heater? because zebras need heated water, while goldfish need non-heated water...

I'm sure it will be okay as long as they get along well, it's just a recommendation.

  • No, my tank does not hav a heater but my zebras r really happy, they've lived quite long and there doesnt seem to be any trouble.

  • Cool! I have two zebras myself and they've lived longer than any of my other fish.

  • hi try getting 3 another albino corys wactch they will breed.

  • @fishingamna yes mine have been living with goldfish for about 3 months now and they dont bother each other at all (:

  • @fishingamna I had my CAE with 5 goldfish for almost a year and a half, he would still be in there except he got too big for the tank, hes around 5 inches now. They got along fine, just make sure there is a hiding place for the CAE.

  • my algae eater loach somehow climbed out of the tank and killed it self

  • I have three algae eaters in a five 1/2 gallon tank and two are up to a 3 to 4 inches

  • how did your algae eater get so big

  • I really don't know. I bought him as a baby, and he grew so fast the first month. They supposedly grow to 3-4 inches long very fast, then grow much slower after that.
