@Smigjo ah dude i tried. i had a 97 e36 328i m52 engine inline 6 those are sharp cars i belive it is the one right under m3 id rather spend 4 grand on that and put money into it such as m3 front clip, turbo, exhaust, etc. i sold it due to how expensive it was to maintain, on my 18 yr old budget. learned alot. enjoyed skating down the highway at 140mph tho :]

I bet you would love an E46, just do not get SMG (sequential manual gearbox) transmission. Very fun car to drive, comfortable, unique exhaust sound, practical and once in Sport mode is a whole different beast. I'm buying one next year I hope, drove my first earlier this year and fell in love, I was heartbroken when the owner sold it because I was so close to buying it.

@KBS604 I've driven both, you have a point. But the E46 is still a very fun car to drive as well as being comfortable, press the "Sport" button and it's a whole different beast. But if that isn't good enough there is a company by the name of "Horsepower freaks" and trust me if you haven't heard of them yet, you must take a look. They turn E46 M3s into monsters, it's hard not to love what they create.

@328iKid I just love the raw power and connection with the road an E36 offers. I really like the comfort E46 has and it does outperform an E36, but for me it's all about how the car feels and E36 wins in my books. I've heard of horsepower freaks, they do amazing work.

I had a 96 vw jetta with an audi 1.8T swap and GT28R turbo. Now that was a beast and the ultimate sleeper. Around 300whp. But some jackass hit me at an intersection last month so it's now totalled. Looking to buy an E36 or E46

And you will not be disappointed with either one of those generations, both are amazing cars. I am looking into buying an E46 M3 next year, just about had one this year but I didn't act fast enough in buying it plus I don't exactly have the money for it right now anyways.

@ThePantyDroper Oh and if you're going to look at an E46, make sure the VANOS unit is in good condition and the subframe is okay as well as the bushings. Those are just some common problems.

@328iKid I've heard of the subframe issue. I've done my research on the vanos but one thing I can't seem to find is, how long does the vanos last before it needs to be rebuilt? Also do you know any common problems with the SMG? I'm considering SMG for those days when I really don't want to drive a stick. As much as I love E36, it doesn't make sense to have such an old car as a daily driver. I learned my lesson with my jetta.
