Beautiful movie. Shows bridges, communication but no clash in between religion. Love for the people. Those monks are....thrilling. It removed me a lot.
i got it , monks being threatened "killed " by extremists or maybe an Egyptian woman killed by a fucking douchebag in germany it's the same , blood is equal , no ? maybe 1 million in iraq is worth a tear too. honeslty i'm Algerian and i lost friends & family to extremists it's just that i'm not worried about them as much as i'm worried about extremists nut cases in the white house asking for gods guidance in bombing 1 million innocent people.
In the beginning, who knows! Many delude themselves but no one knows Jack Shit! (Ed:Jack Shit was reputedly an infamous mad Irish alcoholic philosopher from Ballmebollox, in the undiscoverable outer regions of minus 75 upper Shennanigans~Lower, near Kerry.)
@leaba {Ed: many a mad Irish Bollox talked to himself til he was driven half sane} After a while, length unknown and equally irrelevent, monkey changed his name to man, got really deep and philosophical, looked up at the visible dots, joined the dots and of course got the wrong answer, went on the booze for a while, still little the wiser, went off and swallowed the next delusion pill, and created a big beardy Paddy in the sky, so that that same Bip Pat would travel back in time and creat him...
Where were monks like these when France colonised Algeria for 132 years, killed a million and a half of Algerians, tortured, raped and torched villages .............
Pfff, they gave their lives for algerians people. They did not do of policy, they helped people. They did much more than you for the Algerian people. Idiot
Saw this yesterday. Marvellous. Considered. Kind. Full of subtlety. Bold. Profoundly human. A magnificent piece of work by all concerned. Film of the year.
For anyone who was taken aback by the trailer music - it's the Allegretto from Beethoven's Symphony No.7 in A major Opus.92.
There is also a modern vocal version worth checking out - 'Figlio Perduto' - which is an adaptation by lyricist Chiara Ferraù, of a poem by Goethe and made popular by Sarah Brightman. It's on youtube.
Finally.... A movie about Catholics based on reality, not the usual Hollywood BS that is now very, very old. Of course, it is not going to do well anywhere in North America because itvis a movie lacking in expolsions, transforming robots and CGI.
@rgobio Not quite true. There are still some of us left in the Night of the Living Dead, who can FEEL the sublime by accessing our inner SELVES and reflect back the LIGHT that lies in this movie. Of course, our culture, if one can call it that, has been dumbed down to the lowest human level of consciousness. So there are not many.
Even in Europe, the level is granted, higher, but not by so much.
I for one, pun intended, know, that other Levels, far better than the best Salon, are here.

What, in general, is this movie about? I don't want a synopsis because that will ruin it, just a who/what/where/when type of thing.

Ce film est très ambigu car il ne semble pas tels que les faits sont présentés que leurs motivations aient été de mourir martyrs pour le Christ.

These martyrs bore witness to Christ.

This is a story that seems made for film. In a world where silence is reverenced, images prevail.

@rgobio I must say, when I saw this at the Landmark Sunshine Cinema in NYC, the place was PACKED. Americans, most of them, in fact, do have tastes.
