I prefer either a simpler method than shown for short logs, I just screw leveled plywood on the ends and place a board over that, or I use the full Maloff method. Either way you need to concentrate on high value work, which tends to be beams or wood of exceptional value, The kerf is wastefully large, but the wood I get would probably otherwise rot on the ground. The first cut is the only one that requires a guide, normally
