It sucks. I know. Zappa is an Underground sensation and will always be because people just can't get passed his wild lyrics and subjects. And I just say fuck those people because they wouldn't know challenging music if it hit them square in the balls..
To clarify: The situation as Frank called it almost 50 years ago still has not changed, only the one-hit wonders' names have changed. They programmed to dam and stultify the public's mindset then, and this is still their modus operandi. Even with satellite radio, it's still PROGRAMMING you with redundant pablum with the illusion of choice.
@Nihilism4tw ..Amen man...I have been around since the early days of Free Form radio and worked a few as well...as soon as the Corporations figured out they could make big bucks from it, they choked it to death...I haven't listen to radio with the exception of NPR in over 20 years and I ain't missing it
@tmf945 You are so right, radio stations and record labels pay attention to target demographics, not talent or originality. In fact, being to original is bad because your target demographics will be small. It's all business, no art.
@elgrovez13 and that's why i don't listen to radio and don't watch much tv - it's all for the mass and as we know it's not too bright. Hail the internet, it's the only free media despite all the hypocritical dipshits trying to restrict it.
I had PJ Kirkland from KGY in Olympia Washington play songs from side one and two on his late night AM radio show .. 1966-1967. the doo wop is beautiful .. you didn't try to call me ...wowie zowie ... go cry on somebody elses sholder and how could i be such a fool.. any way the wind blows .. all classics .. Phil Pearl .. I'll never be able to thank you enuf for that. PS remember me .. I was the guy that won the psychedellic poster contest.. d.douglas lukascik
@61dodgelancer .....I fixed the seat so it would tilt back...I thought you were my teen age thrill..I thought you were my teen angel man but you didn't call me...I dig you so much, man...if you coulda seen me in the afternoon it was hot out there..you know, washed the car....we were gonna go later and get some root beer afterwards man I was gonna show everybody my new carburtator...........and you didn't try to call me (girl!)

Fuck radio. It doesn't want to listen to its listeners so it's going to go the way of the dinosaur.
WE keep the torch burning for true art. Not the radio.

I'm not sure which version I like best. This one or the version on Ruben and the Jets. This one is more operatic.

I asked the so called classic rock station in Boston to play songs from this album. They said it's to freaky. I say they "ain't got no heart."
81243eric 2 years ago 47
Yeah most classic rock stations will steer clear of this masterpiece. It's a lil bit over their heads.
theRealbrando2393 2 years ago 2
Yeah "classic" music stations pass over 1,000's of great 60's songs to play the same 300 ad nauseum.
