I have same type of Corolla right now, lucky me. Never had any problems with it and that it the best Corolla model ever made (The E8). :)

Other cars, like Germans, have mutch more pleasant ride and smoothness, but when it comes to the reliability, value at the older ages, then simply, the easyness of driving and the possibilities to do almost anything with a car, I prefer to buy Toyota. I love other cars too, but my blood belong to Toyota.

@390merc65 I did not say Toyota cars never die and never break, dude. Of course everything mecanical can break anytime but Toyotas are higher quality cars and are stronger than many other brands. End of the story no more replies. Also all the new toyotas with warranty are forced to go to a Toyota garage for everything, even an oil change. You can't go to any garage to get your oil changed when the warranty is on. Same as all other parts replacement. That's why it's always full of cars. The End.

Lol, my Corolla GTS ('91) ran almost 15,000km with two cylinders flooded with fresh oil from a cracked block before it finally died. Toyota used to build phenominal engines. After the Supra died, the brand died. My opinion anyways.

This is why im a toyota man, had a 90 celica 4a-FE, blew at 245k, and i raced it A LOT. Now i have a 98 camry 2.2, got it at 186k, now its at 225k with no knocks, chatter, smoke or anything. Havnt had to do anything to it either, besides brakes, oil and tires

My friend used to drive his 86 4runner 60+ miles per hour in second gear bouncing of the rev limiter because he claimed to be to lazy to shift. I drove my 1984 corolla to Las Vegas. it is a 4 cylinder car. it got hot but did not overheat. the reason it got hot was because i forgot to turn off the a/c. it made it there and back home. still has no problems. my 1998 explorer has eight cylinders. it over heated all the way up death Vally the ac was off the whole time. it got so hot that is shut off. i did not know what to do in the middle of the desert so i had to get towed back home. I will never buy another ford.

The cars are reliable as well except the emmissions system makes the check engine light go off every 40,000 miles for stuff like a vacuum leak, etc. Toyota drivers apparently NEVER have problems for hundreds of thousands of miles.
