this is a sham!!! Someone wants that spot for something else and they are going to use every tactic to get it. The sad part is that the city seems to be in on the scheme as well. And this warehouse is directly across the street from the fire dept.???? Something reeks here y'all, FOLLOW THE MONEY! The money always leads you to the truth.
Sorry to say that I used to own a vinyl record factory and I can assure you that vinyl records don't burn. Get a record, apply a blow torch to it and watch it turn to charcoal. There is NO accelarant in the vinyl to catch fire and spread so what are they talking about?
If this was a Columbia Records warehouse, there would be no issue, but when privately owned by a 72 year old man, there is an issue? I smell a rat here. Developers, maybe?
TV show idea: have a TV producer buy the whole content, set cameras everywhere and unleash a mob of record collectors in there and show them fight over the treasures in there! That would get some good ratings!
This reeks of corruption. Somebody wants that property and is trying to screw this guy out of it. Records are not "like gasoline," they are more like tires. It would take some sort of accelerant to ignite them.
Don't understand why this guy doesn't just open up the warehouse for a sale. He could easily make enough money to pay for his sprinkler system.
Sounds also like this guy is a hoarder--the clinical sort--and needs some help.
@WMalven Yeah, the guy is obviously a hoarder, but as long as people keep their mental illness or eccentricities confined to their own property and they are not harming anyone, nobody, especially not the government, has the right to mess with it. But I guess we are agreed on that part.... There's flammable shit on most properties.
That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Records are nothing like gasoline. Have you ever seen one burn? They don't even burn, they just warp like a mofo. This all sounds like developers wanting to get their hands on some land. What a crock.
One will warp but a million can cause a serious inferno, believe me. I once saw a small factory, nothing compared to the size of this warehouse that produces plastic and rubber caught fire about 12 years ago... The black clouds could be seen 40 miles away..,
old records acting like gasoline... a warehouse acting like a warehouse? did anyone notice its next door to the fire station? have a sidewalk sale..make a flyer, post on craigslist.

Just because they are reporters doesn't mean they are not idiots! "Amazing story"? The amazing thing is the collection and nothing else.
