The statue was donated by the Illuminati infiltrated society called the freemasons or masons. these masons were from France. the purpose among other things is the fact that all symbols carry energy, and so using this symbol was a negative sigil (symbol of magic) presented to the masses as a symbol of freedom... irony... hmmm

oh and the "star of david" is actually a symbol taken from a simplified version of a form in sacred geometry, called the merkaba, which is a double tetrahedron (two triangle-base pyramids nested in each other pointing in opposite directions. According to Nassim Haramein, this geometric form may represent the fundamental pattern and structure of the fabric of the universe...the "vacuum" of space as it is called. He also says that "god" in the bible is actually called "tetragrammaton". hmm...
