Great ad. The world was so different. So uncynical. It just was what it was. No need to be hip and cool in a cynical, too-clever-for-my-own-good-way. It was pure what-you-see-is-what-you-get delivery and filming. We'll never get that back.
How far we have come. This car had 400 cubic inches, carpeting and walnut dash and ya liked it! I see folks complaining today that the new model does not have "memory" seats or blue tooth capabilities. Poor, poor babies. Life is so tough.
in the late 70's my dad used to take me to school in ours with side pipes and the top down, weather pemiting, every body else had maxi's or cortina's way cool!
This comment goes with the response video, GTO test run. I bought my 67 GTO new in November 1966. Still have it. Just rebuilt the engine, had it balanced, ported. Rebuilding the Muncie M-20 4 speed now. Hope you have your stereo hooked up to your computer, so you can hear what it sounds like.
Now while I do know for a fact that yeah the technology is there to upgrade the older muscle cars to make them more emissions friendly and fuel efficient sorry the average person is not going to spend 40-50,000 dollars to upgrade a near half century old car with new engine components, special generators, EFI control systems and lighter body parts when they could just go and yeah...buy one of the cars that already has it for that 40-50,000 dollars!
Not counting the heat-trapping emissions from burning coal, gas and oil in power plants and cars, cutting down and burning forest, tiny pollution particles known as aerosols and black carbon pollution that society has been set on using since the early 1900s.
Your arguement that you posted on my profile in regards to termite mounds putting off more carbon monoxide versus cars is insane. So you're going to tell me that your termite mounds squash in emissions alone what the 2007 US DOT report that there were over 254.4 million registered passenger vehicles alone not counting public transportation, unregistered cars or any form of racing vehicles. And that is just the US...that's not what the rest of the world has.
Ok damn I don't normally jack with people over stuff like this but holy hell...damn dude learn to spell. And don't start cracking about how hard things are with the economy and pussy hybrid cars you're 16 years old you don't have a clue until you move out and live. Now while I would and am probably spending my enlistment bonus on getting a GTO I also understand the need for hybrid cars. It's not because of pussies or the economy it is because there is a need for a more efficient running car.
After 5 years of tinkering, I got mine to run like it should. Hold on to the grab bar. These things were built for one thing....speed. What a blast. This car is the ultimate in driving machines!!!!!
Shed a tear for the once mighty "GreaT One" , GTO as well as the rest of the legendary Pontiac line.... All killed off by Socialist visionary Obama and his "Car Czars" along with the UAW which bled GM to death like so many leaches over the years, leaving the carcass to dry up. Pontiac has turned out some very bitchin' rides over the past few years, the 2010 models are the last hurrah as well as a high water mark, the last V-8 and V-6 Pontiacs produced this year are fast and sharp! Get one soon!
No, I think it's Dan....the head honcho on Mission Impossible.. The old mission impossible too. The GOOD MIssion Impossible. Not that crap movie with that over paid pos actor.
It's not because what phil said that's for sure. The manufacturers felt the wrath of the insurance companies, emission laws and the energy crunch that was going on during the time that hit hard back in the 70s. As a RESULT car manufacturers were forced to start making a lighter bodied car that was cheap to make and didn't require a lot of gas which is why fiberglass, aluminum and plastic have replaced steel, chrome and leather or vinyl. Not because of the economy like HE thinks...kids today...
@Defiant155 Steel has been replaced because the greedy bastards in Detroit could skimp on expenses, and still jack up the price of the car. Emmissions from a well maintained engine are not as bad as the libs have made you believe.
Whatever happend to the American car market? Look how cool that car looks! And the attitude; If you can't see how great that car is we don't want you! The big three should scrap all the crap their trying to sell now and remake all those great cars from the late 60's. I know I'd buy one.
This was such a cool looking design! Pardon my expletive but today's cars have about as much styling as a pile of wet shit!

I had a '67 hardtop. 3.90 gears, close ratio 4 speed. That thing would only do about 110MPH, but it would do it in a city block. LOL
