I am a volunteer firefighter for a small town but havnt been very long , but is a huge passion of mine to be a firefighter, someone who is willing to put their life of the line for others is a huge thing in my book , I have so much respect for my "Brothers in Arms" all over the world. A firefighter is a man who i willing to risk his life to save other.I am in training to become a firefighter and if i die inside a fire trying to pull someone out of that dangerous situation then that was my time to show what i was able to do and that was to save another persons life.If i ever die in the line of duty as a firefighter have another firefighter take my place and do the same as me which is to help those in need.god bless all the firefighters and those traning to become one.thank u

A lot of firefighters are also volunteers, they not only put their own lives in danger to protect property as well as the lives of people and their pets, they also are often the first people on the site at car accidents and some other emergency situations. so they spend a lot of their off time preparing for them (most of them do anyway) keeping fit etc. im fine with them sleeping when they havnt been called out, its better than having firefighters who are so tired they cant think

I am a firefighter AND a soldier and to guage them on the same level of heroism is just plain ignorance. Firefighters risk their lives to save more lives night and day. Soldiers risk their lives to protect the lives of the citizens they serve for. My brothers in arms and my brothers at the station are one in the same. they would all risk their lives to save me as I would do the same for them. we are heroes BECAUSE we will do anything to protect our citizens and country
well i agree with you on that. but the problem is, if you are a pvt or PFC and were told an order by someone like your sergeant you would most likely do it. you dont think of the morale obligations because someone who you fought next to and who you trust with your life tells you something. people start dying when you question an order. and 9 times out of 10, that order is what saves your life. if you were in that position you also don't get the entire picture as well.

Don't get me wrong I've served in the armed forces, as have many of my friends. But someone is capable of being heroic because of who they are, not because of what their job is - being a soldier doesn't make you act heroic, it just sometimes gives you the opportunity.
I am a firefighter and no matter what anyone says about us, I will still get on the truck, and pull people out of harms way. I will continue to put others before me. I don't do this to look like a hero, I do it so others may live.

There are lots of heroes in this world we live in and some dont have badges or take an oath to save lives. In my opinion, the real heroes are the men and women in the military who have to go into hostile battle grounds no questions asked.
@jackrubinstein Being a retired Fire Fighter, you need to rethink that one. I don't know any firefighter who would call themselves Hero's, although that is what they are. But there are Veterans that are Hero's in every sense of the word.Carlos N. Hathcock II for one, Billy Walkabout, and Col. Robert L. Howard, of whom there is a video on youtube about him. I don't believe that it is a term you can apply to a profession. For example, neither firefighters or soldiers are heroes; not automatically, anyway. whenever you put yourself in danger for something or somebody else, thats a heroic act. we firefighters are trained to, and our only goal is to do that above anything. we save, we pull out of danger. the military, (my respect, but i would never do it) are trained to end lives for whatever reason. thats not heroic in my opinion. thats something else
In certain situations that's true, but the men and women who will put other's lives before theirs is something special, that's a hero. Our men and women here at home respond to thousands of calls daily, police, fire, ems, all of them are heros. They're paid next to nothing and usually work two jobs to support their family when they could easily get one job that pays more, but they'd rather help others. That my friend, is a hero.

That wasn't meant to sound unappreciative by the way. I do appreciate this video,and all other tributes to firefighters. Just like every one of my brothers. I'm just saying that there are others that don't get the recognition they deserve.
We aren't heroes. Our brothers who have lost their lives fighting fire may be heroes, but the rest of us are just doing what we love. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but go thank a police officer. What those men and women do is heroic. Sure, they might give you a shitty ticket now and again...but at the end of the day they will STILL risk taking a bullet for you -- even if you did take them to court on their day off to argue that "unfair" ticket.
thats what i love most about firefighters and firefighing in general, people in this job have the passion and commitment behind all the hard work and arent willing to take credit, that servanthood is what i admire the most. it is also why i myself have always had a passion for the job that requires alot of dedication.keep doing what you like doing and do it well for your family:)

first of all, i never said they were murderers. and i do believe that soldiers are heroes but not all soldiers are heroes. and how did i insult your fire brothers, i just said i do not see how killing someone makes you a hero, i understand killing important people who are a threat to the majority of people would be good, but killing normal people isnt really much of being a hero.

currently we are at war with no countries but yes insurgents we are at war with. but i am talking about the murdering and torturing of innocent civilians at Abu Ghraib and as well as Guantanamo bay. what of other countries soldiers, russian soldiers killed civilans so did german, and many more countries have killed innocent civilans.

Hey man i agree that firefighter are heroes. Hell I would even give Paramedics, and maybe the one or two not dirty cops that are left are heroes as well.. But you know who is one step above htem all? Soliders. Without them fighting to keep us free, they would be no place for others to have their jobs. to won cars, houses, even their won kids. Some wars are not just, but some are. We have kept our freedom becuase of fighting for what is right. Everyone deserves credit

no., You are right. But do you consider every firefighter a hero? Not really either right. But the vast majority are, and that's why they all get classified under that term. It's more of a token of appreciation, and respect to our previous fallen heroes that helped keep us free then anything else. Because let's face it... If theyh weren't there doing what they did for us, I would be typing this in German... That's assuming I was aloud to own a computer...

I am a firefighter AND a soldier and to guage them on the same level of heroism is just plain ignorance. Firefighters risk their lives to save more lives night and day. Soldiers risk their lives to protect the lives of the citizens they serve for. My brothers in arms and my brothers at the station are one in the same. they would all risk their lives to save me as I would do the same for them. we are heroes BECAUSE we will do anything to protect our citizens and country

well i agree with you on that. but the problem is, if you are a pvt or PFC and were told an order by someone like your sergeant you would most likely do it. you dont think of the morale obligations because someone who you fought next to and who you trust with your life tells you something. people start dying when you question an order. and 9 times out of 10, that order is what saves your life. if you were in that position you also don't get the entire picture as well.

Don't get me wrong I've served in the armed forces, as have many of my friends. But someone is capable of being heroic because of who they are, not because of what their job is - being a soldier doesn't make you act heroic, it just sometimes gives you the opportunity.

There are lots of heroes in this world we live in and some dont have badges or take an oath to save lives. In my opinion, the real heroes are the men and women in the military who have to go into hostile battle grounds no questions asked.

@jackrubinstein Being a retired Fire Fighter, you need to rethink that one. I don't know any firefighter who would call themselves Hero's, although that is what they are. But there are Veterans that are Hero's in every sense of the word.Carlos N. Hathcock II for one, Billy Walkabout, and Col. Robert L. Howard, of whom there is a video on youtube about him. @remowil55 I'm not entirely sure why that comment was intended for me. I never implied that doing any particular job should earn someone heroic status, nor deny them it. I don't believe that it is a term you can apply to a profession. For example, neither firefighters or soldiers are heroes; not automatically, anyway. There are, however, individuals in the military and fire service that have unquestionably earned the right to be remembered as heroes, including the individuals you referenced.

whenever you put yourself in danger for something or somebody else, thats a heroic act. we firefighters are trained to, and our only goal is to do that above anything. we save, we pull out of danger. the military, (my respect, but i would never do it) are trained to end lives for whatever reason. thats not heroic in my opinion. thats something else

In certain situations that's true, but the men and women who will put other's lives before theirs is something special, that's a hero. Our men and women here at home respond to thousands of calls daily, police, fire, ems, all of them are heros. They're paid next to nothing and usually work two jobs to support their family when they could easily get one job that pays more, but they'd rather help others. That my friend, is a hero.

We aren't heroes. Our brothers who have lost their lives fighting fire may be heroes, but the rest of us are just doing what we love. I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but go thank a police officer. What those men and women do is heroic. Sure, they might give you a shitty ticket now and again...but at the end of the day they will STILL risk taking a bullet for you -- even if you did take them to court on their day off to argue that "unfair" ticket.
