I don´t recommend you to mix HMTD with ANY nitric esters, even the solid ones like MHN. This kind of mix that gives HMTD the bad reputation, if you want to use HMTD, make a cap of pure product, that is the safest way. Even if you separate the HMTD and MHN with a layer of something, the natural decomposition of the MHN will produce some NO2 that may be enough to cause HMTD to detonate eventually. But if you are saying that your flash is MHN, than it is not a flash, it is a sensitive secondary.
I think your charge failed the fist two times mainly because you are using flash to detonate it. Flash will never give you a reliable detonation even with very dry products. Why dont you try some HMTD it is VERY effective and not the monster pictured out there, just dont mix with anything. You will be able to set of your ETN with something like 50mg. You can make caps apart from the charge, the caps can be constructed with a straw and you can put then in your ETN charge just in the blast time.

Yeah, I just didn't like making sensetive primaries. So far the MHN has been pretty reliable but I am still going to try a 50/50 mix of hmtd & MHN.
