I took the advice if 'lueyluey' and drilled the exhausts. I drilled 8 10mm holes and it sounds mean! No popping just a deep rumble. Looks completely stock.
I just removed the plates (drillout) bought a 12 inch 5/16 drill bit , drilled out 6 holes in each baffel (your option) Ground about 1/16 off the edges of the end plate to let the sound out,pop rivited the plate back in place, sprayed flat back on rivits, looks STOCK but sounds GREAT no poping or backfire, just the right sound not offensive...dont understand all the cutting and buggering other videos show...tips look completly stock but louder......
@lueyluey3417 VERY cool! I am happy to hear that you are happier with your modification (I'd like to see pictures). I was going to debaffle completely, but my bike was hit by a van (while parked), so now I will replace the exhaust with some cobra swept (I will need a fuel manager though), but this MOD is very simple and does give good sound.
@MrHartford1990 Yeah this is less drastic than a full debaffle, but its a good step to take before (just in case). You can always continue on and debaffle after this, but if you debaffle, you can't put them back :). Good luck on your project!
@SupriseWhatSeX sounds cool. I have actually added another 5 holes per pipe so now I have 10 holes in each pipe. I'm happy for now, but once I can afford it, I am going to spring for the Cobra Swept Exhaust. Anyway, I'd love to see pics once you are done. Good luck!
@EvilJesus909 well i got my bike yesturday which btw its fucking sick but appartly the guy who owned it prior had instead of debaffing or u know jsut the drilling wholes he cut that whole back peice out so idk i guess its liek a straight pipe now idk but it sounds badass ima try and post a video on it soon
@SupriseWhatSeX Yeah, that is what I would refer to as Stage 2 in this process. I haven't done that yet, but am planning on it (and yes, I'll make a video). I'm happy to hear that you like the ride! I actually crashed mine 2 weeks ago (not bad, just a broken clutch lever bent up regulator cover and bent left side foot peg bracket). I got a bit of road rash and a tweaked back, but overall I'm good to go. I actually rode myself to the hospital :).
What I did was to use a screwdriver to "punch" pilot divets into the metal. If you have a center punch that would be the way to go. I suppose you could drill twice, but there is really no need as you would still have to use a punch of some soft to insure your pilot hole doesn't go all over the place.
They dont make you get inspection stickers? Damn that's bad ass! You guys are lucky. They check everything here in Texas and they can be a real pain. Thanks for the info, ride safe!
@309051 That I don't know. I live in California, and they don't make us get inspection stickers. Hopefully someon here from an "inspection Sticker State" can answer that for you.
@Customizurs luckily I live in California, so inspections for me are not a problem. If it ever does, I'll pick another set of pipes up on Craigslist or eBay and leave them just for inspection purposes. :) The law makers are idiots, people will always find ways around these stupid laws.
THANKS for your video : I'm not fond of mechanic but thought my stock exhaust was way too silent for my VN900 custom... thanks to your easy tutorial, I will be able to reproduce this easily !
Besides, I live in France and th regulations are REALLY strict regarding noise, but if stock exhaust is allowed, your video clearly shows that the DB amount is almost the same in the end, although it sounds much better without the baffles ^^
Do you have to rejet after debaffling 5 holes? A friend of mine has a Suzuki 650 cruiser with "1" stock pipe, and it sounds like junk! So maybe we could do this to his for right now as long as he doesn't have to get it rejeted.
@Easyliving2009 I wish I could help you, but keep in mind, this procedure is for the Kawasaki Vulcan VN900 (an EFI motorcycle). What you have is a Suzuki with a caburator. I cannot predict bother Suzuki will perform. Good luck with it.
Really good videos!!! very good step by step, its really cool to find tips on here, and your video for my Vulcan was very helpful!! I had read about doing this, but reading it is a lot different then seeing it step by step. From your video it looks like it actually helps, I just want to be a little louder when I come to a signal, and this process should help. Thanks!! you should be on DIY!
@fourbuick You are welcome. When I got my Vulcan 900 I was also looking for a video of some sort, and couldn't find one. I'm happy to see these videos are helping. That was my goal!
Great video man. I just purchased a Voyager 1700 and I was looking for something to do to it. This is just what I wanted to see and you walked through it purfect.
@jdman70 You're welcome. When I got my VN900, I was looking for something like this and couldn't find anything, so I figured I would do one to help everyone out. I will say this, after you do this MOD (you can start with 5 holes, then 10 holes), you will probably move on to fully debaffling your exhaust. That is where I am at now, and will probably do that once I get back from Sturgis. :)
Good luck, show us some pics once you have done your modification!

Would it have been easier to drill smaller pilot holes( maybe 1/8") first then came back with the 5/16" bit?

@EvilJesus909 well if you are worried about that just buy some cheapo slip ons and put them on for inspection.
