I think they said he was for the benefit of those who had not watched the Season. Reza was suspected of being a terrorist when it came up that through Warner Industries, he made financial dealings and transactions with Sayed Ali. When Reza cooperated with CTU, and helped to find out who is actually responsible, Marie Warner came in and shot them both, and it was revealed that she and Ali were working together to explode that bomb.
