Sandra Izbasa is great. Although I wanted Shawn Johnson to win the Olympic Floor Final, she surprised me with her excellent superb routine. Her I really think she was underscored big time. At least a pt higher sounds a little better. These judges are kind of blind I think.
I think the whole idea of the new code is to maintain complete objectivity. In the past established gymnasts used to get the benefit of the doubt, no more :(
Though that may be true, they are ALSO not rewarding artistry like they should. What has happened to beam over the past 8 years is proof of that. You would never see a Khorkina-type routine making it into EFs... no major points for artistry.
I agree. I love gymnastics even though I don't practice the sport myself and I am not fully versed in every detail of the code of points. I know there are points for artistry but they are minimal and as I understand very easy to get full credit on. The sport has pushed heavily on the acrobatic aspect. From watching the sport over the years I think the late 80's to maybe 2000's was the best combination of artistry and difficulty.
There once was an ROV bonus (risk, originality, virtuosity) given to routines that had a special "wow" factor, but it was done away with years ago. For instance, Yang Bo was given ROV credit, though she consistently botched her BB dismounts. Thus, she could take 6 steps on a dismount landing, and still end up with a 9.9 or so because of the huge bonus for the clear, superb artistry she exhibited on beam. I miss those days. Equity has ruined this sport.
At first I thought you meant the triple was downgraded in the code of points and I was like what??? But I think you mean that she just didn't get credit for it, right?
It was more like a 2&3/4. They could have deducted it but she should definitely have taken credit for it. Downgrade it seems to me way too harsh! Way to treat the Olympic champion...
what is the name of the song, please?

Wow... downgrading the Olympic FX champion on a 3/1? Seriously? These judges must've been smoking some serious Russian crack.
