It's not a drum machine, it's a loopstation. The drum patterns are basically metronomes that help you keep time. You don't understand the concept of this pedal. I suggest you take a few introductory music lessons to see if playing an instrument is for you. I have the feeling it isn't.

There are two dials on the "Level" knob.

The bottom is for your recorded phrase, while the top is for the drums.

I just read somewhere that that's a common problem: you can't use distortion with out the drum track being distorted. Kind of renders it useless if you're a metal head.

you'll need to have the effects set up before the loop station to do that. works best if you have a pedal for effects, then you can set it up like

guitar -> effects -> RC-2 -> amp

Yes, you can do what you want with an a/b switch. But you can also just play it all through the rc-2 if you want the loop phrase and your live playing both ussing the amp distortion. Or if you use a distortion pedal you can the loop clean or distortion while your live playing is the opposite.

I'm not sure, but my guess is that he's using a distortion pedal. So the dist isn't form the amp. Also don't forget to plug your guitar directly to the distortion pedal THEN the loop station...

You can't switch tones on the amp. You have to play the distortion from a pedal and that should work fine.
