@1978atcarroll but based on newer observations (2011/ a few weeks ago) they know that it's nearly a twin to pluto with now 1163km diameter... now that you clearly looked this up in wikipedia: go to the channel of Spacerip and watch their episode"Dwarf Planet Crossing at the Solar System's Edge" on youtube watch?v=CmwclZQLOaw and then come back and say: "sorry i didn't know!"
@funncubesde I watched the same video, did you watch it all the way through? at about :59 it shows your 1163km figure, but at 2:11 it gives the diameter as 2330km. also, in the video description, it gives the diameter as 2330 km. also, it says it's diameter is close to that of pluto's, which is 2300 km. I believe the 1163km figure is an error.
@DuPuieproductions i would consider them double planets but thats just me, charon is bigger than ceres amd (i think) haumea. and charon and pluto are in more of a "unanimous" orbit around each other are they not?
@DuPuieproductions just googled it, apparently pluto and charon are informally considered double planets.
apparently two planetary bodies with significant gravitational effects on each other are considered a double planet system if the barycenter is not under either bodies surface. not too sure about the credibility of the article but hey, it would be pretty cool.

eris' diemiter is 1163km or 723 miles... no blame on you, just a recent discovery.

@funncubesde eris has a diameter of 2330 km, based on observations of it occulting a star.

@funncubesde Actually, I just watched the video again, at :59 where it shows your 1163km figure, it lists that as the RADIUS, not diameter.

shouldn't charon be a dwarf planet too? considering its only a little smaller than pluto

@100redeye Charon is a moon orbiting Pluto

@100redeye I beleive Pluto has a stronger pull on Charon, but does not completley dominate it, like Earth and Luna.

WTF? I know of Pluto being declassified as a planet but why do we never hear anything about all the other dwarf planets??
