The greatest thing about Doom/Stoner is that its impossible to go mainstream. Its something that normal people (who are actually the insane ones) can't understand and comprehend. Maybe its because this type of music is the real "Heavy Metal"? From my own experience, fans of this type of music usually have a broad taste, are addicted to music and love smoking and using dope. We are seekers :)
sabbath blue cheer sleep, the desert scene in arizona influenced. There is a juanra of sabathy sounding clacic rock, stoner rock, doom, psychadelic variation. Dont try to juanranize it. its ROCK.
every heavy band is influenced by black Sabbath, this is my first time listening to electric wizard and i like it, a bit like the sword but more dirty
I'd say they are very influenced by Black Sabbath yet It would be unfair to judge them as a rip-off band. They have their own identity and style within the Doom Metal movement. When I listen to their work, especially their album Witchcult Today, and Black Mass, I feel thankful that these people are around and that the shit of mainstream crappy pop hasn't eclipsed everything.
Just because Electric Wizard are so talented and can play in the same style early Black Sabbath played during their early years, that doesn't mean EW is ripping-off. Anyone can play what Black Sabbath played on their first 4 or 5 albums... You only need alot of weed to smoke, inspiration, talent, ambition, an interest in late 60s-early 70s horror movies and a retro-obsessed feeling in general. Stop bitching! If you don't like it, then get the fuck lost!
Why is everyone talking about Electric Wizard ripping off Black Sabbath? Has anyone ever heard about "a major influence"? Early Black Sabbth is one of Electric Wizard's major influences, that doesn't mean EW is ripping off Black Sabbath, that means EW is inspired by Sabbath's early evil/gloomy/trippy riffs. Rip-off means COPYING SOMEONE IN THE EXACT SAME WAY. Now tell me... on what Black Sabbath song(s) have you heard Witchcult Today's riff or any other Electric Wizard riff?
There are SO many idiots commenting and saying how they are so similar to Sabbath. I never listen to Wizard and think "Wow! They are Sabbath Rip-offs!". These guys are one of the most original and by far the heaviest band I have ever had the pleasure of hearing. I hope you asses get over the minor similarities to Black Sabbath and start enjoying this music for the music qualities. And not just to smoke to it and think you're cool because you smoke and listen to Stoner Metal.
man the cover art for this album is some of the most sick and twisted fukn awesome shit, this album is fucking seminal, black masses (scorpio curse specifically) was the shit too...they sound like an evil-er melvins
I don't care if I'll get a shitload of thumbs up or not and I don't even care if anybody will disagree with me, but THIS KIND OF ROCK/METAL MUSIC is the first true kind of metal music in history. You all have heard it before, back in the earliest days of the 70s... Black Sabbath with their first 4-5 albums gave birth to this kind of music, which sends shivers up your spine, making you think of how would it be like being stoned out of your mind, tripping and being doomed for your entire life.
we all know about the black sabbath shit, they have a shirt saying "sabbath started it" so I think that is clear. but they did not rip them off yada yada, whatever. this band is fucking trippy and I love this shit. Wizard in Black got me into them. If you listen to these guys and you don't smoke weed, I don't know what the fuck you are doing with your life.
Electric Wizard is the most unique stoner/doom metal band, cos... you know, they are influenced by early Black Sabbath and stuff, but what I definetly like about them is that they don't try to rip off, or to imitate or anything like that... Many doom metal bands (even stoner metal) try to imitate early sabbath, which I think is pathetic... and they fail !

@doom696mented dude it's the silhouette of the poster from the hammer horror classic "The Devil's Bride" also known as "The Devil Rides Out" - look THAT SHIT UP

so what if they ripped of of sabbath, im happy because sabbath kicks ass and if they rip sabbath ( which they really didnt) than all that means is that there almost guarnteed to kick ass (which they do)
they arent a rip off of sabbath at all, believe me i grew up on sabbath, sabath did not invent low key music they barrowed, or took from other groups as well, no such thing as original, just personal flare
@arnyarny77 you didn't mention another important thing: not even the occult/satanic lyrical themes weren't invented by Black Sabbath... there were bands before sabbath in the USA that were playing blues rock/acid rock/psychedelic shit and had occult themes, like Coven and Black Widow. What Black Sabbath really did was to play a heavier psychedelic/blues rock and combine this with the well-known dark/occult lyrical themes and with the additional doomy/trippy style of singing of Ozzy !
@arnyarny77 That heavier psychedelic/blues rock combined with those dark/occult/horror lyrics evolved and it was called heavy rock music (or heavy metal) and the first subgenre of this heavy rock/metal music was Stoner/Doom Metal (of course, this wasn't even a name within rock music during the 70s, and doom metal was recognized as an underground metal subgenre during the mid-to late 80s, and then in the early 90s, stoner metal/stoner doom metal rose to proeminence)
@arnyarny77 the fact that sabbath took from someone else doesnt mean these guys didnt take from them... they are great, but a great influence from sabbath is really eminent
@Boomoutgothelights You think they made an album like "dopethrone" without the inspiration of drugs? just listen to the bong hit in the background of funeralopolis...

Respond to this video... dude they r the heaviest fuckin band ever i mean u can actually feel the weight of the song when you're listening to it its like theres a fucking 18 wheeler on your back
@sammy10391 No she isnt, she was discovered buy someone who had a brilliant mind for marketing and how to sell a product who then invented some dramtis persona for this febale minded skank he found in a strip club with a a bareley adequite singing voice. Everything about her is thaught up by other people, not to mention she is an Illuminati pupet. She souled her soul for fame.
@turydragon no, lady gaga knows her shit when it comes to getting to the top of the mainstream list. That in NO way means she knows anything about music. All she knows is the modern pop music scene, which really is one of the worst places to go to if youre looking for real MUSIC
Real music is any music, Obviously what shes selling is nothing much that synths,drum machines and her voice. but she still studied music and knows how to play and sing. Its easy for people to make shitty criticism or to complain behind a monitor.
@sloosbag you might be right that there are many untalented people in the pop scene, but lady gaga is not one of them. she rights her own music, plays piano, directs her own music videos and gets one hit after the next. so she is talented... maybe yoiu should rather say britney, don't think she is such a talented person... =)
@sloosbag As awesome as the image you painted in my head looks, Lady gaga is probably one of the only talented pop artists around these days, even if she is an attention addict.
Check out some of her interviews, she actually knows a lot about rock n roll. And well, she can actual sing and writes her own songs, that's got to be a good thing surely.
The greatest thing about Doom/Stoner is that its impossible to go mainstream. Its something that normal people (who are actually the insane ones) can't understand and comprehend. lady gaga is the chick dead on the album cover, The Wizards taking down the pop scene, one untalented whore at a time

@sloosbag What's there to take down in the "pop" scene. It's call crap really?

@sloosbag Lady Gaga is pretty talented, I don't like her, but she is, you just don't appreciate that different people have different brains.
sammy10391 1 year ago
@sammy10391 No. She isn't.
TheTapdancingChrist 1 year ago
@TheTapdancingChrist Yes, she is.
sammy10391 1 year ago
@sammy10391 No she isnt, she was discovered buy someone who had a brilliant mind for marketing and how to sell a product who then invented some dramtis persona for this febale minded skank he found in a strip club with a a bareley adequite singing voice. Everything about her is thaught up by other people, not to mention she is an Illuminati pupet. She souled her soul for fame.

@sloosbag
Actually lady gaga knows her shit when it comes to music. so talent is not an issue with her.

You and ZXOH are in the wrong place.
Likeyoucare 1 year ago
@turydragon no, lady gaga knows her shit when it comes to getting to the top of the mainstream list. That in NO way means she knows anything about music. All she knows is the modern pop music scene, which really is one of the worst places to go to if youre looking for real MUSIC
kwazyjones 1 year ago
@kwazyjones
Real music is any music, Obviously what shes selling is nothing much that synths,drum machines and her voice. but she still studied music and knows how to play and sing. Its easy for people to make shitty criticism or to complain behind a monitor.
turydragon 1 year ago
@sloosbag you might be right that there are many untalented people in the pop scene, but lady gaga is not one of them. she rights her own music, plays piano, directs her own music videos and gets one hit after the next. so she is talented... maybe yoiu should rather say britney, don't think she is such a talented person... =)
ZXOH 1 year ago
@sloosbag As awesome as the image you painted in my head looks, Lady gaga is probably one of the only talented pop artists around these days, even if she is an attention addict.
Check out some of her interviews, she actually knows a lot about rock n roll. And well, she can actual sing and writes her own songs, that's got to be a good thing surely.
