  • Why they did not rebuild the bridge:

"One reason was that the cottages were owned by the town, and they had already been considering ending the leases for about a decade prior to the fire, in part because of difficulties in protecting them"

  • "After a portion of the bridge burned in 1996, Pleasure Beach was cut off and became accessible only by a lengthy trek along the shoreline, or by small private boats from the mainland. This has severely limited access and allowed nature to be undisturbed"

"May 2007,occupants agreed to give up their claims"

"On July 25, 2008 the governor of Connecticut M. Jodi Rell endorsed spending $150,000.00 to study the feasibility of restoring access to Pleasure Beach, possibly by rebuilding the bridge."

  • weird why would a beautiful place near the beach be abandoned? I'd maybe build my house at least 1/2 a mile farther back from the beach in case of storms and giant waves. But still a beautiful town myseriously gone in the sands of time....

  • I hate seeing these places all tagged up with spray paint. Abandoned or not, why deface property with spray paint?!

  • I'm from Ireland and I'm not used to seeing abandoned houses or abandoned towns. I wonder why are there so many empty buildings and so many empty towns in USA? What happened to people and where are they?

  • Been there,my boat got stuck on a sandbar and we couldn't leave until after dark XD

  • very cool !

  • How can we sleep at night, knowing that all these Secular Progressive are leading our country to the Bombay Beach of the East. Watch "jacobsen976"

  • are those parcels stiil available?

  • Can you sleep here or would you be devoured by zombie hobos?

  • i loved this place as a kid. The town of stratford kicked all of those people out and the side owned by bridgeport is inaccessible because of the bridge fire. My major gripe is that the town of stratford tore down things on the bridgeport owned side as well. It was on the national registry for ghost towns now its just a dirty beach

  • Pleasure beach wasnt abonden. Everybody who lived there was kicked out.

  • Dave I agree with u dave

  • didnt they tear all that down recently. because some stupid bird lovers are worying about somethin else stupid. see in the futer id like to buy all that land then sink all my funds into it restoring it to its former glory.

  • @develray you wouldnt beable to restore to how it used to be with all of the rides and buildings the state and city will not allow you to.

  • when was this recorded?

  • @lucidbuelark --- In July, I think. 2010.

  • @aaronnflanders

The beach town looks like a ghost town today! Talk about ghost sightings, this is definitely a ghost town!
