It's the womens rigth to choose how they want to give birth! I'm sorry to say this, i might be wrong, but the person that made this illegal in Alabama (which is probably a men) must be sexist to make such a DISGUSTING decision! I mean what kind of women would agree to this? Even the ones that want to give birth in a hospital.. they're no reason that they would want to make this illegal for all the others who would like to have a home birth! This is ridiculous!
@lora1992 - google " Structure Of The Birth Certificate" and you will know why "they" have made midwives obselete, it's all so they can assign a SS# , from the IMF, and register "regis" a Birth Certificate, ie warehouse receipt, so they can securitize and trade on the global stock market.
I cannot believe that a state would make midwifery illegal, who do they think they are to decide for a mother?? Good on all of you for making a stand, I would never want to go to a hospital for birth, hospitals are for the sick and dying.
Im going to become a midwife - study starts next year - Over here In New Zealand All low risk pregnancy's are cared for by a midwife, and me having 2 had children of my own will help me relate to women so much more. Its sad to no that option is not available to everyone
Great video. This is such a real issue for me personally. I live in alabama and had to deliver my child unassisted at home. I had such a horrible experience in the hospital with my first child, that I vowed to never go back and deliver in a hospital again. I feel there are greater risks in the hospital setting. I would love to be able to have a midwife deliver my future children. Birthing unassisted is not a choice I like making, but the law leaves me with no other options.
@JIW1087 Do you mind me asking, what happened during your hospital birth to make you decide to have an unassisted home birth? Also, what happened that you had no other options? I live in NY and had 1 unassisted birth but only because I had a horrible midwife who left me at 5 cm, with my 6th, baby because she said I was not in real labor, I had the baby shortly after on my bathroom floor.
But I'm interested in learning what goes on in Alabama concerning midwives or lack therof.

I grew up in Alabama but now reside in South Carolina. Having just given birth 2 weeks ago using CPMs, this is a cause which I will heartily support. The use of direct entry midwives - at home or at a non-hospital birth center - are such an excellent choice for low-risk deliveries, and all women should have that option available to them.
One of the best things you can do to support CPM licensure in Alabama is contact your family/friends there and ask them to contact their state reps. or state sens. (check with the Alabama folks for details of their bill # or whether they are working in the house or senate right now)
I have tears rolling down my face as I watch this video. Unfortunately, I have just found the answer to my question: "why can't I find ANYTHING on homebirth in Alabama?!?" I am about to move to Ft. Rucker, AL with my husband, who is in training to be an Army helicopter pilot. I've been looking forward to this move for months because we plan to have our first child! My options: birth in hospital, birth out of state (away from my husband), or don't get pregnant at all. I am devastated.
Lovely video. Every pregnant woman deserves a midwife and the excellent care and outcomes to be expected from midwifery care. If the woman also needs a physician, she'll need her midwife all the more.
