  • what would happen if you put your finger in that

    ?

  • is there a way to make this without buying the kit? I want to make this for a science fair and i dont think it would count if i just bought a kit to build it.

  • Dude, that is awesome ;)

What type of jack is the audio input? usb? stereo jack? Thanks XD

  • @blastmonkey14

Thats just a standard audio RCA line-level input.

  • Your website sucks.. Also known as NOT WORKING.

    I want to do this!

  • cool

why does the lamp get lit?

  • Because the electric field around the coil interacts with the gases inside the lamp makes them illuminate. Same thing happens when you plug it in (you cant see wiring inside them, just gas, still it illuminates). Correct me if i'm wrong.

  • so somehow the (pulsating) electric field manages to raise the energy level of the gas molecules inside the tube; voltage (alone?) is performing work here.

  • You can show me the scheme of the indicator of loudness?

  • aristotle73, I have done that myself a few times with my own toys. It's one of those effects. playing with a Geissler Tube, that led Tesla to his idea for transmitting power through the air. Higly impractical to get any kind of real power any great distance due to not being efficiently coupled, but genius for a guy in the 1800's, eh ? Oh, and watching someone forget that and get shocked brings back fond memories :P

  • Yeah, wasn't so much getting shocked though. It was a burn - the metal in the bulb connector got extremely hot.

  • i dont get it all it is a coil with electricity.

  • as far as i understand it, the music is produced by the coil, there are no speakers needed.

  • Is he humming along? lol what a dork. superr baddass tech though. cant wait to build one of my own. and then just hum through it instead of play music.

  • lolololol @ 3:48 -- dumbass gets himself shocked

  • Nice coil, but yeah I agree with d00deth. Although it was nice music, the frequency range was too vast, and thus it looked like a t/coil flinging a wire around due to ion wind effect. Electronic music (preferably with not to many instruments) will really show this coil off!

  • how much do you pay for the sun and stars to shine? how much do you pay for the earth to spin? for the waves to wave and the wind to blow? for the trees to grow and the flowers to sow?

  • sounds really nice, what music is it?

  • Music is by Yanni off his Tribute album... and I have absolutely no reason why I know that...

  • you idiot ricedrocket.. ozone saves us from burning to cinders :P hehe praise tesla!

  • Ozone in the troposphere is cancerous and doesn't offer much protection from UV down here.

  • @weezilla ignorant children.

  • güzel taksim:)

  • Pretty good fielity compared to other Tesla coils. Needs crossover network and multiple Tesla coils optimized for various frequencies.

  • lol! dude, don't hum along with the music when you're filming a video demonstrating something to do with AUDIO!!!! hahaha!

  • can you play ride the lightning by metalica on it that would be really cool

  • this would be absolutely amazing if it weren't for the humming person in the background.

  • cuz of the oriental music. dough

  • lol you said dough(like bread dough) i think you ment duh.

  • lol tru

  • Actually I think he meant D'oh as in Homer simpson. Man you are both retards. One doesn't understand himself and the other doesn't even understand the longest running animated show on television! Yeah I know, big ups for my genius again!

  • Why does this remind me of the Tomb Raiber movies?

  • Rofl! Touched the wrong part of the bulb, didn't ya?

Try playing Daft Punk's Technologic on it.

    Sweet vid!

  • ...you were humming during this? lol

  • Ubisoft presents: Prince of Persia: The Tesla Coil!

    Just kiding ;) Nice one

  • how lol i want to know lol i want my coil to do that are u using a solid state coil or how are u modulating it?

  • Excellent - love it

  • can you play some rock music on it like free bird by skynyard or alternative rock how about some voices or rap music

  • Thanks. The audible frequency range is only limited by the power. The highs have no limit, however, for lower frequencies (bass), you need to move air, so it would be limited by the size of the arc.

The music is from Yanni, i believe.

  • wats the name of the music do you know?

  • BIGGER Tesla coil! More bass! Actually the electric sound of it arcing is way better suited for contemporary or digital music types. Hearing weird middle eastern stuff coming from it just sounded like there was a tape player in the background as it is too full channel to notice it's actually the coil playing.

  • I am absolutely startled as to how clear the sound is. Do you know what audible frequency range you can achieve out of this?

  • The frequency range is only limited by that of the coil, this coil can prob. go far past the audible level of 20 kHZ,

It works in the same respects as dimming a light (turning it on and off very fast) so to get 40 Hz it turns on and off 40 times a second. It can prob. go up to about 100 kHz.

  • What's the music?

  • I think it sounds like Yani?

  • I envy you- you who have the knowledge of semiconductors to be able to ausio modulate a tesla coil...

    Well done, sir.

  • fantastic - love it

  • Thanks. Glad you enjoyed them! I'll have to upload the stereo plasmasonic videos soon!

  • Dan,

Your coils are da shit... As usual! ;)

Love the audiomod! The sound is pretty darn clear!

    Great job mate! =)

  • Yes, there will be a complete design book (electrical and mechanical plans) as well as boards offered available in May 2007.

  • Awesome!!! Do you offer plans for this thing?

    Thanks

  • The unit is only a single unit of the stereo pair. For stereo operation, two identical units (albeit, running at 300kHz, 350kHz respectively so not to interfere with each other) are used for the left and right channels.

  • That is awesome, nice job. How can it be stereo if there is only one arc? Nice job on the coil too. :)
