The reality is that the young Blacks who choose to sell drugs, drop out of school, commit crimes, and were raised in the government projects tend to talk and rap about the same shit across the board. How many times can you talk about pimps, prostitutes, and crack! Really, who cares? If I had the ability to reach millions of people on the air waves and give them a message, this wouldn't be it! Try putting something positive out there to HELP our kids. They are already disillusioned as it is.
It's okay to provide a true account of crime ridden neighborhoods, drug infested streets and low income housing, but are YOU not capitalizing on this lifestyle and culture? Without it, you wouldn't have ANY basis for your music. If you ask me that's EXPLOITATION! I'm pretty sure that you won't meet the masses with your music not because of the topics, but probably because of language and derogatory lyrics. Rapping about pimps, hustlers, addicts, and prostitutes is so old in rap game!
@Meta4ce I never said that he wasn't skilled, I just meant that there are other political issues and social situations which need to be glorified than one aspect of urban culture. Everyone that listens to rap is NOT urban and wants to listen to a music style that glorifies the stereotypes as such. Also, I don't get what you mean that conscious rap has a homo undertone. If you feel that rap music which talks about respect, education, monogamy, tolerance is "Pro-Homo", then that is sad!
