Great stirling engine project! I've been looking to build one about this size and this video is great inspiration. I've already found a suitable Briggs engine and started tearing it down. Could you give me any details and/or dimensions of the displacer piston & cylinder? Thanks! Bill
@50calhawkin The displacer cylinder is an old air tank its about 14" tall 4-1/2" in diameter the displacer cylinder is a large soup can. It has no regenerator/economiser the rod slides in a peice of brass turned to fit in the pipe fitting on the top. The whole cylinder is welded at the fire box end.
If you have any more questions don't hesitate to ask
@pic16F88 I removed the piston rings and fitted teflon gland packing as used on small water pumps the valves are still in but the shaft and pushrods have been removed one valve leaks a wee bit but it's not too much to worry about
@pmaci56 Re: one valve leaking - While you have the engine apart two solutions to the leak. First - Lap the valves and reassemble or Second - Open the valves and apply a bead of RED Hi Temp RTV, close the valve and wipe off the excess. I really like your video, Hats Off to You, keep up the good work!
this engine is currently in pieces undergoing a modification to fit a water jacket as the cooling system had a flaw in it as it heated up the copper pipe expanded and moved away from the cylinder also the coil was working quite well as a water heater the water coming out the top was nearly boiling but the water going in the bottom via thermo siphon was cold when ive finished putting it back together tll put another video up of it running
great video and a really nice engine.Exellent

Nice! How much torque does it have? I don't need a number, but how hard is it to stop it with your hand?
