america used to have passion for mass trainsit by rail in teh 60's, especially with all the new rapid transit systems we where building (which had so many innovations). now all that is a just an echo of the past. But don't fear or worry, it will come back, and this time they wont have a choice because freeways will only get more packed.
Dudes... from Osaka to Tokyo, the speed of the shinkansen is up to 270 km/h no matter if it's the 300 Hikari, 500(former Nozomi)Kodama, 700 Hikari/Nozomi or the N700 Nozomi.

It's impossible for any series of the Shinkansen that runs at 360km/h. The fastest two: Shinkansen 500 Series and N700 Series can only run up to 300km/h. The newest Skinkansen E5 will run up to 320km/h. Also, if you travel from ShinOsaka to Tokyo, the maximum speed for any series is 270km/h only. If you are traveling from ShinOsaka to Hakata, then you may be able to travel at the train's max speed.
Fastech 360S/Z is now the former name of E5 Series. 360 representing the highest speed it can reach will be 360.4km/h. However, when the train is OFFICIALLY in service, the maximum speed will be up to 320km/h. Experimental can run up to 360km/h. OFFICIALLY only up to 320km/h.
I'm not disagreeing with you. What you call "OFFICIALLY" is what I meant by "revenue service". For whatever reason, they don't run that fast when actually carrying passengers.
Very similar to what happened at VIA Rail up here in Canada. In 1990 the government cut a lot of its subsidies and in one day, half of its network vanished! Bus companies complained that they were getting "unfair subsidies". Then "Liberal" Prime Minister Paul Martin who used to own a bus line canceled upgrade subsidies! Our current Conservative PM seems to only have his oil sands as a priority...can you blame them though? They're so greedy, all they want is money, and more money!
why isit d world only superpower still have a 3rd world rail system? I think its because of strong lobbies from boeing n exxonmobil, n also mebe bcoz of toyota n gm.
i left on amtrak from rochester at 3pm (schduled to leave at 2:27pm) and arrived at NY penn station at 11:45pm (scheduled to arrive at 9:15pm!!!) and missed my connecting amtrak train to Newark Airport at 11:15pm.
upto 150MPH on the Northeast Corridor, 90MPH on portions where the Southeast Chief runs, 90 on some corridors, its 110 or so on the Keystone Corridor, and 79MPH on most freight tracks. I might have left out other areas where speed is higher.
I'd be more impressed if trains could hold that speed consistently on those segments. But as long as freight comes first or they're too lazy to bring the track/trains/signals up to spec it won't happen.
★Shinkansen's normal Speed (World's No.1) × 200km/hour(woman's comment on movie) ○ 300-320km/hour 210km/hour is speed at opening Shinkansen in 1964. 350km/hour's now planned. But 1964!!!!! It's incredible! It's just only ★19years★ after losing WW2 by that Japan lost everething. That's miracle. ① Shinkansen Japan 1964 19years after WW2 ② TGV France 1981 36years after WW2 ③ ICE-3 Germany 2002 57years after WW2
Due to current infrastructure limitations across the nation, Amtrak trains many times just cannot be run on time due to the fact that they have to contend with other trains on a given line. Dispatchers by law have to give Amtrak the operational priority, but many times, it just isn't possible.
The Japanese are too efficient for having cars stuck on tracks. If they've been running these trains for 44 years without a single casualty, in a highly earthquake prone country, that says a lot.
Amtrak service is marginally better off in the Northeast, but even Acela is just barely high-speed rail and is certainly no Shinkansen.
Fortunately, here in California, there is going to be a $9 billion bond put forth to California voters on the ballot this November to fund a new 220 mph (350 kmph) high-speed rail project connecting Sacramento and the Bay Area with Los Angeles and continuing down to San Diego. Hopefully it gets approved so that at least California can boast of high-speed rail!
I have to agree: the KTX/Shinkansen is a superb, efficient, safe and clean high speed rail network that runs well. When I go home and use the VIA from Toronto to Montreal, it's embarassingly bumpy, dirty, slow and prone to delays. Our government did the same thing you guys did and have the same problems. Did you know that the same companies that bought up and tore up the tracks did the same thing to several Streetcar routes? They were fined one dollar...pft! Great video!
I completely agree with your video 100%! When I was in Korea we used to take the KTX Korail train between Busan, Seoul, and Daegu. The average speed of the KTX was around 200 mph, and ran to each destination about every two hours all day until the late hours of the night. I now have a Korean student living with me and after I moved back to america recently and was thinking about taking him on a trip on the amtrak, but have never ridden one. After watching your video, I'm a little embarassed to.
The car, dispersed living, and a phobia for public goods accessible to all classes are deeply ingrained into the psyche of most Americans.
While industrial sectors may have kicked things off, the brainwashing and addiction is so complete that it is hard to put the genie back in the bottle.
Money alone won't fix Amtrak -- real change will only happen when people start taking Amtrak en masse and CLAMOUR for better.
Basically what is needed is for some entrepreneur to want to build one.
Now is the perfect time with the economy in its current state. What we need is to repair the damage that our Auto Industry has done.
At this point people would be more accepting of mass rapid transit.
The hardest part is doing the research and funding the project. It would be a VERY ambitious project, but for the man\woman with the determination it would be very profitable.
This is some great information and I am a railfan and all but seriously, who in the US is going to ride trains versus airplanes and their own cars??? You can blame the government and you can blame oil companies but we all need to blame ourselves; they only give us what WE want.
Not to mention that most US aircraft are ageing, inefficient ones, or that flights are half-full, in a slump that started before 9/11. That worsens fuel costs and pollution. A rail network as efficient as the Shinkansen would really make a big difference.
Shameful. The United States became what it was with railways, but now that's all history. Shameful.
Amazing just amazing! How on Earth could Americans be so blind. If people started using public transportation instead of their gas guzzling SUVs we might not have a huge hole in the atmosphere. Gotta love our oil company run government. :]
I know; I agree. I find it so amazing that while so many people are complaining about gas prices, many of them are still buying huge SUVs and Hummers.
Great video and great facts. Here is another: The Goverment spends more money every year picking up road kill than what they give Amtrak to transport 24 million passengers!
took me three days to go to boston from san diego in 2008. no better now. it still take three days. i don't need to go to boston that bad.

Shinkansen operate 5minutes interval.
Average delay per train is 6 seconds.
3cities between Tokyo and Osaka are over 1million population city.
Between LA and Las Vegas, you cannot find enough passenger to support the system. I think the US is too huge for the train system to be profittable.

People are perplexed to non-human society because efficiency, efficiency, and
suddenness are required in Japan.
The dining car and the private room of Shinkansen train had already been abolished .
It became the ordinary commuter train for efficiency.
Shinkansen was constructed in the provinces and many blue trains were almost abolished.
Recently, the emotion of travel are vanishing .
