@enigma413 it still freaks me out and guess what im years old looking at old crap fancey that. but yea it creepy btw you know tey use that i too dpy on when your not looking xD
i heard in the inside view of the eye logo that he came up with this one when he was on an amish farm and they had one of those color wheel things on the barn to ward off evil so i can see what yopu mean by it scared the shit out of you look up cbs logo history video and youll see what i mean
Yes, I have seen the one you're talking about. Those are Pennsylvania Dutch "hex" signs I think. I know what you mean. Curiously enough, I think of those as very nice things to have around and not at all scary!
This was the filmed logo CBS used from 1951 until 1968 [at least] when their 16mm network film prints were shown on local affiliates via "delayed broadcast" (if the local station couldn't present the show on its regular night and time). Sometimes an announcer would add, "This is the CBS Television Network". "Live" broadcasts on the network would have a standard CBS eye logo "against the clouds" or on its own by the mid-'60s.
Back in 1989, when CBS showed the lost "I Love Lucy" episode, they left this ident intact after the show ended. However, when this ident was shown, a modern voiceover cut in saying "This is CBS!"
i was exposed to it this way and it STILL creeps me out. i also remember after dramatic shows and the credits (gunsmoke, perry mason, twilight zone, etc.) cbs would put up a slide with a rendering of the show amidst a wallpaper of cbs eyes, and some weird music for about a five second clip. that also scared me senseless.
The CBS eye logo mildly scared me as a little kid. However, I was never exposed to it THIS WAY. If I had been exposed to it this way I would have had a lot more issues with it.
It generally ran with the announcer saying, "This is the CBS Television Network" over it, though sometimes the eye would reveal a promo for another show, which the narrator would pitch.
I'm old enough to remember when this was new! I was never very impressed with it although it did bring back alot of memories from the golden age of television.

That animated eye logo was used for a few years in the mid and late 50's and was last used about 1960.

I am surprised the illuminati theorists haven't commented how this logo wasn't a plot to brainwash us! lol

The famous "animated shutter" version of the eye logo in the 1950s and 60s. Off network-delayed broadcasts by CBS used this as the closing end tag.

This and the "eye in the sky" one used to scare the crap out of me. William Golden was wearing the wrong ring the day he came up with this.

I have a "dollar DVD" set of Burns/Allen and Jack Benny eps which may have been taken from these affiliate prints.

Did they used that one from "Mighty Mouse Playhouse" at the end?

I remember that! I thought it was a great tip of the hat to their early days.

The guy who said "This is CBS" back in 1989, BTW, was Alan Berns, who had been with the network since 1959.

Did this ident ever include the announcer dropping in, "This is CBS" like the future color idents in later years or was it always a silent one?
radamail 5 years ago
Sometimes it was silent. Other times, an announcer would say "This is the CBS Television Network."
