This is good info! One thing that would have been interesting to try is to take a camera that lets you set the exposure manually, and in a dark room, set the shutter speed and aperture and take a shot of the screen (lit blue or whatever other solid color) before you clean and then the same after to demonstrate the difference in brightness, etc. I know you can't do it now, but if someone else is reading this and plans to do it, it would be an interesting demonstration!
a DLP television set is just way too expensive anymore compared to the flat screen televisions today. you can get a 70 inch for about 2/3 the price of the same size DLP and it'll be brighter, more energy efficient, and you will never have clean the inside to make it look better. Oh and did I mention they are a thousand times lighter?
My mom doesn't let me connect my PS3 to our Big screen TV like this one in our living rooms :( She say's that it will make the screen white and gray and it will make the TV loose it's color. Is this true?
@omes7922 I'm guessing that your mom grew up in the age of Atari. Atari systems were notorious for burning screens (because of relatively static patterns held in place for a long time). But newer systems have more complex, ever changing graphics, the TVs are better (though plasmas can still burn in and LCDs can fatigue... though a fatigued LCD screen can be corrected with a proper screen saver... I have a monitor that fatigues easily. New plasmas shift images slightly to prevent burn.
@omes7922 Sorry. I ran out of space in my babbling of history of games. No, modern consoles will almost definitely not cause screen burn and most modern TVs are very resistant to burn-in. I can only assume that she's talking about burn in when she says "lose its color" and turn "white and gray." Of course, being a mom, she'll have veto power regardless of what anyone on youtube tells you :(
can some one point me in the right direction? my dad found one of these on the curb and took it completely apart, seeing as how he needs the spare components for his stuff. any way I now have 3 of those magnifying glasses for toys, but there's dust on the inside of them. does any one know how or a video to take one apart and clean inside of the magnifying lens?
WOW thank you so much for posting this. We had cobwebs on the inside of our screen shield in the shape of a V. We thought we could remove the shield and when we realised we coiuldn't we gave up and have been watching T.V. thru theses cobwebs. We decided today to check on here for a solution and thanks to you our HD T.V. truly looks HD. Unbelievable difference. The picture is crystal clear, it looks amazing!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!!!!
i got a big phillips big screen (projector) i clean it but the picture doesnt show on the hole screen i think it just need to be aligned. but im not sure where or how too. could you give me a tip thanks
When you mention glass cleaner, you mean I can clean those guns with windex? Also the back of the screen inside is there any good solution I can clean it with?
GREAT VIDEO !!! my folks have one about the same size and they watched news alot on it and belive it or not the ticker seemed to stan the plastic screen on it ..... do you know how to or where to buy a new screen?
I got a rear projection tv too..but i broke the perspex screen on the front. I wonder if theres a way to project it into a wall instead of using a screen.
@jimmyjohn00 Yea I know what you mean. I was ready to buy a new one. Now I just clean it once in a while. However now I don't have a excuse YET to buy a flat panel. and with my wife I need that excuse.
Hi I would like to open up my old CRT JVC(tube) thats about 20 years old and clean it up because the buttons are unusable(don't move) and has been in a smoking area is there anything I have to watch out for when cleaning it???
I have a big-screen LCD HD TV that's not projection, and am getting what looks like a "lake" of dark matter gathering on the right side of the screen...almost like liquid spilled on the screen while the set was laying on its back. However, it's on the inside, not the outside. Do you think this is something that could be cleaned too? Or is this something a professional might need to look at?
@rhodesmk You either cracked the inside layer of your screen and/or your lvds board(s) are going bad inside the tv. If not the lvds board, then it's the t-con board. lvds boards run vertically along the side of the tv, inside it while the t-con board is usually near the top inside behind foil.
@rhodesmk I know you posted this a long time ago.... so you may have already gotten your answer. but in case others are curious, it sounds like your screen cracked and the dark "lake" is the actual liquid that gives an LCD the "Liquid Crystal" part of it's name. It's non repairable. For future reference, never tilt a flat panel (Plasma of LCD) more than 15º from vertical. The glass that makes up the panel can't support it's own weight when laying flat.
Thank you for this video. I was a little scared to open up my big screen. There are like these big brown bloches on the screen. And i just kep clening and cleaning the screen. And bam i did this it's perfect again. Thank you.
@CanadianToolGuy416 Yea your right. This is my TV and one day I decided to open it up and clean it. And WOW what a difference a little cleaning can do. Thanks again.
THANKS...GRACIAS !!!

I have a Mitsubishi wd-52528 it has a netflix image from a x-box 360 burnt into the screen. Could that be a static dust problem on the screen itself?

I'd really recomend using a camera lens cleaner. Cause the lens probably has a special coating, and you wouldn't want to strip it off. Just saying.
