@csknives1985 Because the effects of radiation depend on intensity and duration. They are being exposed to *relatively* high levels, but not certain danger.
@morbidangelofdeath1 The three main types of radiation that is still affecting the Chernobyl site is caesium (gamma), strontium (beta), and plutonium (alfa) so there is still all three types of dangerous radiation around the site. But the main contaminate is the alfa radiation. As for that spot in the woods I don't know if I would buy it because the levels officially recorded are no where near that high.
@jc35957 Alpha radiation's not that dangerous. Your skin can protect you from it, IIRC. And beta rays can't penetrate through solid clothing, so it's none too dangerous, either (if you're dressed well).
@GenghisKhan44 I agree with you if you dress properly you would be fine but the amount of alpha radiation still floating around Chernobyl you're skin wouldn't protect, you would want to wear one of the full body white paper/cloth suits. But yeah other then that you would be fine as long as you didn't stay there for an extended period of time.
Pripyat is around 150-1000uR/H some places in Red Forest are still over 1R/H though. Pripyat still has "hot" spots though, why you need a radiation counter. Without one, you could be walking into a death trap. You cant see, or feel or smell it. But its everywhere, the radiation.
1000 R/h would be rather ... unpleasant. The most we've measured in the Red Forest area was about 1.5 mR/h. (And Pripyat dosimeters black out at 2 mR/h)
@fdrpyahoocom And you dont seem to get MY joke. I'm implying that there really ARE bloodsuckers in the video, but they are cloaked, because bloodsuckers never just wander around in plain sight.
@athlonz2007 yes, radioactive particles (or Electormagnetic waves in the form of gamma rays) are actually magnitizing small segments of the video tape, leading to visible static and audible pops everytime a particle strikes.
I am 44...over my entire life this is the saddest news story that will never ever end...plutonium-239 has halflife of 24000 years...that means the pu-239 is lethal for 400,000 years!...i commanded 14 m-60a3tts tanks in us army...never thought ussr would nuke itself and warsaw pact with fallout of 400 hiroshimas...i pray for everyone in area!.../@ milwaukee
It was only red until the trees got cut down. Basically, as the wind blew the plume of radioactive smoke through that section of forest, it killed every tree and left them ginger-brown in color. Then the liquidators cut them all down and buried them in trenches, but the area's still very contaminated.
most of the radiation has "sunk" into the plants and trees....so the geiger counters can still pick up the radiation...but its only harmful to stay there for a long time
You can travel there for about 1-2 days. If you stay longer, you will turn into a zombie. If you stay for 1 week, you will turn into a snork. If you stay for 2-3 weeks you will turn into a blood sucker. If you stay 1 month you will turn into a controller. If you stay for 20 years, you will turn into wish granter.
yes but the old russian move isnt a action film and when I remember there arent monsters in it just people but they are fighting against to reach the "wunschgönner" first I think in english it means whichgranter or something like that.
At the beginn stalker shouldnt play at tschernobyl but I´m really happy that it plays there its a mysterious place and good to make such a game with mutants and something like that.
the stalker movie had nothing to do with chernoobyl though. it was a forbidden zone that had supernatural things in it, but it was not a power plant or Chernobyl
The forest isn't even red nor was it ever, just some fucking idiot who was overwhelmed with exaggeration when the incident occured said that....I'll give that cunt red
When I turn 18, my first thing on my things to do list is going to be a visit to the zone. I've just won a Bulgarian dosimeter on an auction and I'm going to test if it works.Later I'll share a video how it works. Wish me luck!!!!
Amen to that brother. :) I got an idea, lets meet up there. Really, I am going there, infact, abuddy of mine has a trip booked to go to the zone. He's going in October.
you seem to be extremely uneducated about what radiation is. There are even people that are working to this day inside the power plant. As long as you take precautions it is "relatively" safe.
No. Staying too long is a significant health risk, though. Some people still live within 30 km of the plant. It is not safe to eat the food they grow in their gardens. The main isotope still present is Cs. Most other background radiation has significantly decayed in 20+ pears, but the Cs isotopes are still there. The nasty stuff is still in a rapidly decaying sarcophagus. A new one must be built.
Plus, the roads are less contaminated than other areas since road doesn't absorb radiation as well as some materials, like wood. I bet dirt absorbs better than road too.
It's simply washed away from the road by rain...(and it's radioactive dust)
If U look at othe vids from there, they usually show the difference between the road and a meter from it on the grass, it's quite remarkable (sometimes even more than 100x)
Radiation takes time to affect people, and the time that it takes damage to occur is directly dependent on the amount of radiation. Simply said, there wasn't enough of the radiation around to do long-term damage.
Also, if I remember properly, the radiation here is mostly gamma particles, which have the least damaging effects out of the three main types. (And to the people scratching their heads at that statement, least damaging does not mean its the least penetrative, which it is)
The upper limit it almost indefinite... it will allways take some time, the extreme cases (nuke :D), it will waporize a person in a matter of microseconds...
it actually got red after buriing wastes of the explosion there, most of the vegetation turned some strange brown and red tone and then died. i'm not an expert in radiation but i think his face must be in his ass by now.
So being exposed to radiation from cell phone antennas, microwaves and televisions and being exposed in an area where a nuclear reactor blew itself up is the same to you?
And cell phones, microwaves etc. don't have RADIATION. The danger comes from the electromagnetic pulses they produce, which stop when the device is does not broadcast/is off. Now in Chernobyl we don't have EM pulses, but uranium spread in the whole area. That's far worse I think, isn't it?
100 roentgens an hour is roughly one million times the average background radiation we get everyday from our electronic devices and the sun, and this is a DIFFERENT kind of radiation. There is a difference between UV, Alpha, Micro, EMP, and Gamma. Gamma, being the worst of them. That guy is actually running at a HIGH risk of developing Thyroid Cancer. Thousands of R/h is known to cause bodily disentregation after an hour of exposure. Think lepersy.
read wikipedia or something like that before you say something...
1) the rotgen unit is for ionizing radiation ONLY, practically no house appliance generates it(some fire detectors do), there are different units for that...
2) why would he have thyroid cancer? there's no radioactive iodine in the air...
3) gamma is not THE worst, just penetrating, if you want the bad stuff, go for neutrons or alfa from close proximity, I suggest reading on the Sievert unit for explanation...
Buddy, I trust a book more than Wikipedia. Actually, I trust just about anything more than I trust anything on the internet. People are full of shite. Maybe you should realize this and think before you speak. Maybe I am bullshitting for a reason.
Besides, I may be mistaken on the unit, but I do vaguely recall a book on the Manhattan project that pretty much explained the effects of different doses of radiation,, and the units were roentgens.
1)And the rotgen in an IONISING RADIATION unit... I was poinitig out, that NO house appliance generates ionizing radiation (unless you happen to have a X-ray machine or a iradiator at home).
2)Being exposed to 100R/h, the camera would have a severe noise problem, there would be colored pixels showing randomly all over... there's just no way (even in chernobyl) they would allow such exposure to humans
3)A book once printed, CANNOT be corrected, the internet CAN! The best way is more sources...

1000 roentgen/hr?? Don't be silly!
That's showing 1000µR/hr, which is actually 0.001/1 roentgen/hr, or equiv to 10µSv/hr.
1000R of γ emissions, or 10Sv/10Gy would have seen you vomiting within 10 minutes, and certain death about a week after.
Your measurements were 1,000,000, or 1 million fold out!

500R/h has a 50% death rate.

you see it wasnt called red forest until the diseaster happened because people seaid the trees were glowing red
jcodym13 3 years ago
not glow red, the leaves turned red like in autum (exept it was the end of spring)
AKAtheA 3 years ago
it actually got red after buriing wastes of the explosion there, most of the vegetation turned some strange brown and red tone and then died. i'm not an expert in radiation but i think his face must be in his ass by now.
locjuan25 3 years ago
the radiation exposure is not that much...visiting is one thing, living there for the rest of your life would be something different...
you'd be quite suprised how much you recive when traveling on a plane...

That's far worse I think, isn't it?

the audio pops are a sign of radiation

So may people cannot comprehend the fact that this guy was never in any immediate danger....
A mR/hr is a whole hell of a lot less than a R/hr.
Maybe if camped out in the forest for a month, rolling around in the dirt, etc. he might* show a few symptoms of radiation poisoning.
Going there for a day gives you little or no more radiation than an overseas airline flight.

MeanderingBeing 3 years ago
read wikipedia or something like that before you say something...

MeanderingBeing 3 years ago
1)And the rotgen in an IONISING RADIATION unit... I was poinitig out, that NO house appliance generates ionizing radiation (unless you happen to have a X-ray machine or a iradiator at home).
2)Being exposed to 100R/h, the camera would have a severe noise problem, there would be colored pixels showing randomly all over... there's just no way (even in chernobyl) they would allow such exposure to humans
3)A book once printed, CANNOT be corrected, the internet CAN! The best way is more sources...

thanks for posting, I wonder if those audio pops are also a sign of radiation

and theres always a probability you catch a skin cancer the next time you step out the door. and a probability you wont.

why the hell are those guys even driving through there? *crazy*
kattoo13 3 years ago 2
Its safe to go into there. just not into the reactor.....duh...
briangriffin2 3 years ago
why is it safe if the geiger counter is registering over 1,000??
kattoo13 3 years ago
It isnt dangerous, yes its bad in big doeses but I dont think they are going to the red forest to set up camp.
