Sealed box got better sound if you wan't precise peak of bass, like basedrum hit, but ported box, with a hole, may be tuned to a X frequency, and qhen this frequency is played, you can get at least than 3 DB more. You just have to tune the ported system to make it amplifying qhat frequency you want. Bassworkx Recommanded.

another reason for lack of xmax is its in a sealed box. vented enclosures allow for air to escape so there is less air resistance against the sub resulting in more xmax. but of course it has to be properly tuned. are they up to full power?

Actually, they are already "Broken" in. All speakers go through factory tests to ensure quality before they are sent out. I can see what you are getting at though..

if it says XXXX watts rms, thats the power it puts out. usually, cheaper amps put their max rated power, which means its rms is usually 1/3 or even less of that.

man you dont need that much power all you need is 1000 rms watts of power and it will be at optimum performance for example check out the jl scale at jlaudio website for 13w7s all you need is 1000 watts the rms if you go over on the scale it shows its not going to perform at its optimum

Well at the audio store I went to they said lanzar amps arnt true power. So, if what they say is true i dont have a 4000 watt amp, they told me the amp is putting out no more than 1000watts (by the look of the fuses) . But, the subs hit extremely hard so i dont see how that can be true....

For example, Otacrunk has a 1000 watt RMS subwoofer, ran 100 to it, then 500 and there was not much different he said, then on 1200 watts RMS, it kicks apparently

I am running a Lanzar mxa 282 amp it says its pushin out 1650w rms and 4000 max but I dont think so. Either way it still runs the subs pretty well. For an 18" solo x I would say you get 2 of the kicker 2500watt amps.
