2006 was actually the beginning of the rebirth of something great for Illini football, much like 2004 was the groundwork for the reemergance of Penn State. Unlike 2005, where everybody was blowing out the Illini, they had improved by 2006 to the point that they could hang with everyone, just not close the deal. Compare the 56-3 halftime score against Penn State in 2005 to the closer than the score 2006 game against Penn State 26-12. 2007 was when they finally could score the winning points.
