Back in the days when they knew how to paint planes (and buses) properly. As kids we were taken to Heathrow by a family friend who ran and air freight business-it was about 1960 and some of this is familiar. I can remember it all went horribly wrong- our friend's car was stolen-. that was before the place was renamed Thief Row as well! We were on the flight path to Heathrow- we would lie on the grass and watch the silhouettes- Constellation, DC3, Comet, 707, Britannia, even a York!
0:26 "We saw aircraft of all shapes and sizes." Today, we see Boeing and Airbus. And Airbus. And Boeing. And Boeing. And again Boeing. And a few Airbuses. Oh, and Boeings, if I didn't mention that.
LOL amazing how much its changed and how much the times have changed its so old fasioned yet theres abit of comedy in it i wonder why they never made Heathrow bigger before
Thankyou so much,,That was the queens building..i used to go up there all the time when I was a kid in the 60's and 70's..Like everything else, it shut down due to terroism and stuff I guess...
It used to have an arcade where we used to play old games and had a great dalek that you could sit in...Great days...
billyguns2, dress smartly was the custom, those were the days! (before they started squeezing maximum numbers into cramped economy seating and flying became an endurance test)

Viscounts, DC3s, a Brittania, fantastic!
The Viscount was a superb aircraft.

True.
Todays airports only contain Airbuses, Boeings and CRJ jets.
That is about it. Any other planes are just considered as "rare"

that building is being demolished as I type!! shame, but what will replace it will be world-class, just like that was in 1960.

What a great video. Lovely to see how things were in the year I was born. People spoke properly too!

Fully agree with your last comment!
Many things have progressed but oh how standards have dropped.
(No one using a mobile phone in the video. How was life possible??!!)

This is fabulous! Flying in those days was such an adventure; people even got dressed up to fly!
