I have this in mame 32. This game would have looked really good on terbo graphx 16 and would have increased sails on that in the us and pc engine in Japan.
@ArcadeExtreme it is not a *real* cheat: it was coded in the original cabinet as well (like power up in bubblebobble) and allows to score more than 10m points
What console version is closest to the arcade version?
I remember playing this at some friends house, back in the early '90 and it had gorgeous graphics. But I can't figure out what home system it was for... All I remember is that the diamonds in the middle and bosses were as colorful as shown here.
Could someone who's familiar with the different versions help me out. I'm thinking maybe Genesis or Turbografx-16?
There are Mega Drive and PC Engine versions, but neither was released outside Japan. There was also a Master System version that I think was only released in PAL regions (maybe Japan too, but not North America).
The NES and SMS versions play well, but the graphics aren't as good.
There's a PlayStation/Saturn version of Bubble Bobble that also included Rainbow Islands though.

The version on Taito Legends has the main theme's lead melody deleted because it sounds similar to "Over The Rainbow" from "The Wizard of Oz" movie.

You get 1000 pts. just for landing from a jump? Video games give so many points!
TBologney 1 year ago
@TBologney only with the special ring. Theres also a ring that gives you points just for walking. You can see this used during island 1

Awesome run, and insane skills. I'm aiming to do this myself and appreciate the toughness.
By the way, at 0.19 you can see you've entered the score cheat... ;)

Can you please explain? With more info on this cheat I will ask about it to the author of this run (essekappa). Thanks!

Your best bet is with the Saturn/PlayStation version, they seem to be identical to the original, but I don't know if they contain island 8, 9 and 10.

Pc engine (aka Turbographx for wankers) version is just great, as well as the Megadrive (Genesis for wankers) version!!!!!

Do you have any mame imps or videos about Rainbow Islands Extra version?
I tried to watch those on MARP but they all go out of sync at some point :(

Hi! I think that all Essekappa inps are on MARP, but you could try to ask him about this on our forum (feel free to post in english!). :)
