@ihearteeyore Just crushed walnuts from the super market. First they have to "discover" that they like them, so just slip in their food bowl daily. Once you know they love them, use only for trick training.
@liljim10 I had their wings trimmed by the vet. Then they can't fly away, and you can keep their attention while you train and build trust. The wings will grow back out in a few months if you choose to let them.
@phwar26 They are a bonded pair, and they are friendly to me, except during mating season -- and even then they are fine once I take them away from the cage. They were both hand raised.
@polishmafia01 When I first got Piper, she was terrified of me, even though she was hand raised. Then i got Bailey about 2 months later, and he was very accepting of me. Once Piper saw that I was "cool", she warmed up to me fast. She was in love with Bailey at first sight.
I didn't know that bonded pairs could be taught tricks or tamed. I thought they only liked each other. Did you get them at separate times and bond with them before introducing them to each other?
@happyinlove97 Cute story: I got Piper at 12 weeks, hand tame, yet totally feared me. She seemed very depressed, except on trips to the bird store to buy food, and she heard lovebirds. So I got Bailey, also 12 wks. I caged them separately to be safe. A week later, Piper was bald on her forehead! I was so worried, but the vet suggested she was rubbing her head along the bars trying to get closer to Bailey. So I put them in same cage, they fell in love, and her feathers grew right back.
@drolebol The DVD (actually VHS) was good. It took no more than 30 minutes total for each trick, although only 5 minute sessions per day, as per the video. There are tons of tricks on the video, although most require props.
@wierdflex199222 I'm no expert, but I suppose finding something they love is important. The chopped walnuts really worked for them, although I had to just feed it in their food bowls for a while before they would accept.
@candada78 Depends where you live, whether hand-raised, and if already had a vet visit. Mine were $85 each. But the initial purchase is the LEAST of the expenses you should expect (good cage at least $75, $20/month in toys, $20/month in quality food, $150/year vet check-up, sitter/boarding when you go on vacation, $50 in books/ mags/ videos). But they are worth it!
I always envy people that have that kind of relationship with lovebirds. I have only one and he is scared to death of me. I still love him though and spoil him from a safe distance.
excuse me, but you seem really good with birds. umm...i have a problem with mine, and theyre exactly your birds colors. a green and yellow. the yellow ones feathers is almost completely gone, and i am sure it is not losing feathers to exchange called molting...or somehting like that because it has been like that since a year after i gotten em'. with any chance, do you know how to get their feathers back please?
hey, just wanted to ask, u used the parrot teaching video for the lovebirds ? is it the same way they learn or what ? there's no difference in learning between parrots and lovebirds ?
Very good! I have too a Peach Face Lovebird and we play ping-pong! I throw the ball upside the net and he rethrow me upside the net! But your Lovebirds are very beautiful and good job! Continue like this!
Hi, I love Tico's tricks! I need to teach some new ones to my birds. Your videos have motivated to teach them to put the rings on the stick. I haven't had much luck with the flip yet. -sw
Hi, They're really into walnuts. I break them into tiny pieces so that they won't fill up too quickly. I used the Teach Your Parrot Beginning Tricks video II by Tani Robar. - sarah

..how do tame both birds.??? i know that its easier to tame one because the bird has only one companion (you), but what if you have a pair?...
Navyseal925 2 years ago
@Navyseal925 I taught them one at a time, sessions right after each other. Since they are in love, they happily stand on the perch together.

@dumpling621 I got it at Feathered Follies, near San Francisco. I think they have an online store, too.
