Rarerat, I went to have a look at my 68 camaro in the bodyshop where it is only to find they painted the firewall / dash black. to my horror they painted over the VIN on the dash and cowl tag on the firewall, all unreadable now, i told them to get the paint off those cos i want to see them and be able to read them. They thought i was being picky about it. What would be your thoughts on that? thanks
I wouldn't mind if they lightly painted them, but if they are unreadable I would make them remove the paint, especially on the vin tag. You are not being picky at all, it is your car and you are paying them to do the work to your satisfaction, plus it's just common sense & they should know better than to burry the tags in paint.
@Rarerat Thanks. Oh yeah! thick with paint!, and the studs that the wiper arms go on to that stick out (whatever they're called) didn't even tape them off, thick with paint, which i'm thinking might hinder the wipers moving. but yeah they're putting it right. I've known the guy who owns the place for years and he's keeping the cost down as much as he can more of a favour really so i know i'm getting it done cheaper than anywhere else but even so... Still.....the joys of owning a classic.
Been following this resto from the start and i am totally impressed with your work...looking forward to the vids...all the way from Trinidad in the Caribbean...
I did a vid of my camaro so far, at last. Pop over to check it out. I havn't been down there for a week or so to get more pics ready for the next part, but it's coming on great.
@Rarerat I am excited, thankyou. And doing these vids and documenting everything is always good for when the car is sold. But i think I'll enjoy it for a while before i let it go :)
So Far, so good! Have you tried Desert Valley Auto Parts in Phoenix AZ? They have nice supply of classic car parts. Look into their website or call them 1-800-905-8024.
OMG! I thought "they tried to kill the Camaro with a Shotgun", then you said it prob was, lol.. Maybe it was meant for whoever was inside :-/ Maybe that car had a dodgey past before you got it. Doing a great job. have a good weekend.
lol... I know this poor car has had a very crazy life, prior to me buying it all those years ago. I think the biggest problem is when most of the bad repairs were done, it was just another dime a dozen used car in the 70's.
Vary nice job on the door, looks like your pretty good with metal work, but I don't think you should mix FORD metal with GM metal lol But ya it did look like it was shot with a shotgun, whats up with that? Who does that? lol Have a good weekend!!!
Thank you for the kind words. lol.. I thought I might catch hell for using that old Ford metal to fix the door but it was handy. I cant say what kind of dumb@ss shoots an original SSRS 396 with a damn shotgun but then again this poor old girl had one hell of a hard life in it's first 12 years. The sad thing is in the 32 years I've owned the car it's always been garaged. I never in my wildest dreams thought I would find half the crap I have on it. It's really sad. Have a nice weekend
do i hear krokus? i have that album, classic. amazing what can be underneath paint. a 68 gto at work looks mint but upon inspection half the car has been replaced with bondo, no steel left in the quarters at all, its nuts.
lol... Yes sir, that's a great album. I have been so disappointed with the body on this car, every panel just seems to be worse than the last. all I can say is this poor old Camaro had one hell of a hard life before I bought almost 32 years ago.
