Passat is a good car. German engineering is generally good. But sometimes overrated - The Transporter T4 has in some cases had problems with engine management system, Mercedes built the horrible E-Class (W210 from '95, W211 is a much better car). Golf Mk. 3 wasn't of quality VW is usually known for. And Opel with serious rust issues, and, in some cases, failure of belt drive in otherwise decent engines in the '90's? I like German cars, but not simply because they are German.

@Lonehawk2k4 What?? I can say what ever I want about this. My dad had a '99 Opel Vectra - full of rust after 10 years, new Astras (already from '98 onwards), Insignia etc. are much better. I know an auto painter who had E-Class W210's (2-3 year old taxi's) with serious rust issues in for new paint jobs. Danish winters do mean a lot of salt on the roads, but W211 and Golf 4, 5, 6 for instance aren't that easily affected compared to W210 and Golf 3. Don't know if you're ironic, or?

@Lonehawk2k4 I'm sorry. I have made statements before, where I, according to some users, have made them in spite of lack of knowledge and sometimes details. Yeah, I mean I knew what I was talking about in my comment on this video. Galvanizing and submerging of the car bodies into liquid washing off minute particles has made the industry come a very long way, hasn't it? W211 has, as far as I know, not had big issues with build quality. Though few issues with the sensotronic brake system.

ya know i never truly thought about vehicle safety until i started looking for a new car, but man after seeing these videos i will not consider a car without head and side airbags. Though I've never been in a side impact accident(thank goodness) I dont think i want to take that chance anymore.

Good idea - not sure why they all don't do it. If they can deploy an airbag in milliseconds I'm sure they could figure out how to put a light on.

For years now BMWs with satnav and carphone will dial emergency services and give them your GPS location if the airbags deploy - now that's cool.

That'a the paint to show the impact of the dummy. The dummy's head records g forces and other info that they'll use to make the ratings decision. That car is actually really safe. The frontal crash got nowhere near the passenger cabin.
