My main profile I use for my first playthrough of every game is male, however I do occasionally select female on additional playthroughs. Why? And when I played ME1, I just didn't care for Meer's voice, but then played FemShep, hearing Hale's take on Shep--I got flashbacks to the Marine women I knew growing up around all my life. Meer's voice just lacked the gumption, whereas Hale's--it had the attitude of a Marine.
I play through the game at least twice so I don't have to "choose" between female and male shepard...besides, I love Jennifer Hale's voice. I actually think she also does female trooper in The Old Republic.

Second I find it cooler watching a female shepard punching out aliens. Specially when it comes to aliens that are suppost to be far physically superior to humans. Like the krogan.
3rd. I find it super hot to see a woman carrying around big guns. I know I am not the only guy who finds that a turn on. I just one who will admit it.
Am glad that they finally have a look for her now, and can't wait to see the trailer. I prefer her over the Male shepard because her voice actor is way better. That male voice actor needs to take some notes from Jennifer Hale.
I know people still Riff on Mark Meer's manshep, but I have so much more respect for him after hearing some of his other roles -- he's definitely got range AND emotion. I think voicing manshep does tend to box him into the "Stoic hero" voice set, but tbh voice isn't my reasoning for playing femshep. I generally like to play RPGs as my own gender, so femshep it is!

@NKSlattery From what Bioware said there is no canon Shepard, he or she is who ever you want to be and the only thing canon about Mass Effect that Shepard survives the suicide mission to the Collector Base.
Also, if you'd played Mass Effect 2 as many times as I have, and experimented equally as much, you'd know that you can make Shepard die in the end. Look it up. Surviving isn't canon either.

I(A guy) personally find fem shepard look way more awesome. Especially in ME2, those moments when you face heavy fire and your moving from cover to cover while shooting(Adrenaline Burst). Assault Rifle + Female Shepard FTW!
I Love playing all ME's repeatively! If I play MaleShep, I go after Tali. If I play FemShep, I go after Garrus. I hate the Humans "Touchy" Kaiden and "Derp" Ashley, so on Virmire I send the Human Love interest to their deaths! I Lol's a lot XD

I think that if the background was brighter then the "bad ass" femshep she showed in this video would have won. I am getting the collectors edition so the look of the picture is very important and dark on dark was less cool then the blonde on dark background.

the point of there being a preset image for Shepard is so that you can either play as the character created by bioware or you can make your character completely your own either male or female a whole variety of faces, hair, and personal history details. and that is what makes the game so awesome. I liked the the female voice on the first and thought the male was mediocre. But his acting in part 2 had improved alot but for some reason the female voice was a little lazy. instead of sounding like she was acting it just sounded like any ordinary person reading it off a script. I(A guy) personally find fem shepard look way more awesome. Especially in ME2, those moments when you face heavy fire and your moving from cover to cover while shooting(Adrenaline Burst). Assault Rifle + Female Shepard FTW!

I Love playing all ME's repeatively! If I play MaleShep, I go after Tali. If I play FemShep, I go after Garrus. I hate the Humans "Touchy" Kaiden and "Derp" Ashley, so on Virmire I send the Human Love interest to their deaths! I Lol's a lot XD

I think that if the background was brighter then the "bad ass" femshep she showed in this video would have won. I am getting the collectors edition so the look of the picture is very important and dark on dark was less cool then the blonde on dark background.

the point of there being a preset image for Shepard is so that you can either play as the character created by bioware or you can make your character completely your own either male or female a whole variety of faces, hair, and personal history details. and that is what makes the game so awesome. Why do people have to whine about every thing? Jerks!

I liked the the female voice on the first and thought the male was mediocre. But his acting in part 2 had improved alot but for some reason the female voice was a little lazy. instead of sounding like she was acting it just sounded like any ordinary person reading it off a script. If a movie gets made they should have a male Shepard cause the series already has many great leading actresses and with out a good male lead it's just like the resident evil films.

@Kunoichi360 it was only 10 000 years ago it started to get civilized, and back then it was due to the fact, women couldn't get as strong as men. And it was ONLY that restriction. and it was actually when the religions started to pop up this power to control people, and even make female gender "weaker" in the aspect of society.
Also in the gameplay when you see that long haired girl, and everyone thought it was Ashley. Guess what? It is not!
