  • Did the SM7 have the presence boost on?

  • So,this is the raw audio file? :)

    no effects?

  • SM57 was excellent. Thee TLM 127 did surprisingly well, very clean recording. Also the 441 was very dark and raw, I thought it sounded really bitcin'! Might sell my BETA 57a and get one of those.

  • kind of liking the sound you got when you used the M-3K-one-93278 (or 78's as they are called in the fabric industry)

  • The SM57 may be the "classic" guitar amp mic, but I actually liked the other two Shure mics better. The Neumann mics and the DPA were also good.

  • Neumann U87 sounded great

  • For that sound imo the 441 and the SM 7 were the best!

  • The thing about guitar mics is that they all sound terrible by themselves.

  • +1 sm57 still king, closely followed by sm7. go shure!

  • I listened withmy eyes closed. I didn't really 'LOVE' anything, except for when the TLM 127 came in. BAM, I immediately opened my eyes and I saw it was a TLM 127. I really seem to love that mic. It is great on kick drum, room mic and cabinets. I'll surely buy one later when I have the money, I also really like the Royer 121 btw. Thanks for the great shootouts !

  • Do you use a flat EQ on the mixer?

  • @Herlastod FLAT no EQ

  • For me close call between SM57 and SM7, i love to hear a mix of SM57beta and Oktava

  • you can put a shure sm 58 in front of the speaker! its to your mix who sounds the mic better!

  • TLM 127 for me. I wish I could afford one...

  • quick question: will the tuning that you're in affect how the mic records the sound? plz respond!!!!!!!!!!

  • you should try taking the front resonator disc off the 319. Its worked well on mine! Sounds brilliant on guitar now.

  • really enjoyed the oktava there.

  • the ovtava sounded pretty good, that and the sm-7

  • Shure SM57 won.

  • The SM57 always be the best Choice for distort guitars! and i dont know what happen with Shure with that Beta 57 Sounds Like "·$%!!

  • I wonder if this is actually how guitars should sound recorded? I'm always recording direct using impulse responses and my sound always turns out either too bottom heavy oder too middy.

  • 57 or the Tlm127...

  • Shure sm-7 is the best all around mic there is so much versatility in that mic. I have a weird miking situation with my guitar setup, I have audio-technica podium mic, Broken EV N/D 127 and sometimes my cheap AT or my CAD gxl2400. This sounds strange on paper but rocks in the way I have it position, EQ'ed w/o processing. To all their own, when it comes to tone! -PK

  • Sm57.

  • You didnt have a Royer R-121?

    Thats my favorite amp mic.

  • @MadBassist2 Not this time - maybe in the next videos ! :)

  • 57 all the way.

  • DPA surprised me. Didn't think a SDC would fare so well... in fact I think it was my favourite.

  • TLM 127

  • U87 for clean is perfect, not for distortion tracking..

  • that does not look like a shure beta 57

  • Nice shootout! I don't normally like Beta's, but it cut through on the lead. Otherwise I really like the 421 & SM-7, the 7 having a bit more high-end and bottom(but it does look to be in a bit different location on the cab. What setting were you using on the 421?

  • @RetroElectroville hey . I realy like the md421 too but I dont have one on that video...

if I had it on I would use the "M" position for the beefy low end.

here I use a md441- on flat position

  • @kobifarhiMusic

Oops, sorry, I was tired when I was watching! 441, right! Thanks.

  • whoah. Scary expensive mics you got there. I can only afford SM57.

I guess I just use amp sims (I use Amplitube 3). lol

  • hehe the super expensive U87 fell flat on its face here..

    SM57 still KING

  • @girotube :The crazy thing about distortion guitar is that everyone like somthing else, today Ive heard someone saying he liked the 87 and the Octava- and was dissapointed of the 57.

  • @kobifarhiMusic also mic placement on the speaker has a HUGE impact on the sound, and as hard as one might try in a shootout to get the positions all the same, there is always going to be slight variances.

  • @zildjiandrummer91 I agree with you. I hope the video still gives an idea about the general tone of each mic, enought to know wich mic to choose. Once you choosed a mic- you can find out its best position.
