this happens on my x-8 every time i disconnect the battery. You just keep it on and running for about 30 minutes or an hour and the computer remembers how to stay idled.
@RobertKrischok: its "Catalytic Converter". and the check engine light was on because my spark plug wires and coils were bad. The entire exhaust system was no more than a year old.....COMPA
@regiomontano you gotta tell anything about this car, I drive it myself. In any case your car is fucked up. Just read the other comments! In any case you treat your car less, and certainly not after 6 months. Also this has nothing to do with your catalytic converter. Flashing check engine light is a misfire
some of these comments make me laugh lol. Please, if you have nothing nice to say then why post anything at all.
@mememan52: if i knew nothing about my car, I wouldn't be doing most of the maintenance on it myself. Your comments is now deleted.
@ferreribery85: yes, actually you would raise the rpms above 2500 if you are, for example, going to move the car a few feet in the winter but you dont have time to let it warm up. Please do not talk if you know nothing about rotary engines.
MINE DOES THE SAME THING WHEN IM DRIVING IT AND ITS WARM HAVE YOU FIXED YOUR CAR?? AND MINE RUNS LIKE THAT WHEN IM DRIVING IT I HAVE TO HAVE MY FOOT ON THE ACCELORATOR TO GET IT HOME IF NOT THE CAR WILL IDLE AT 1K RPM AND THEN SHUT OFF AND IF FROM BEING WARM WILL NOT START UP LEAVING ME STRANDED AND I WAIT TILL THE CAR KOOLS DOWN THEN IT WILL START AGAIN WTF? ANY HELP?
B- buying stock coil packs are a no no the go up every 30,000 your better off buying a boh upgaded coils they come with wires and only cost 500 bucks and last alot longer and you can do it your self
C-theres a leading plug and a trailing plug on each rotor....on the block its marked l and t so you don't put plugs in wrong hole
D-do not use synthetic oil in your car it will cause your seals to expand and blow your motor
@coratanice: my spark plug wires and coils were bad. Completely my fault for never checking them out. If you haven't tuned up your car in a while you should defiantly check those two things out before you get ass-raped like me.
Oh, and as a side note; if you replaced your spark plugs before it started messing up, chances are you put them in wrong. I guess there's two different kinds of spark plugs for the rx8 and it DOES matter were you put them in. I didn't know this.
@regiomontano I did my own, came out to be under $250. its a total DYI, jsut gotta put in the time. also, be VERY careflull when torquing the coils... the bracket breaks very very easily.. trust me, after i heard that snap, i was like, FUCK.
just open the glove box 3 times then walk around the car 5 times with glove box open then pump brakes 9 times wait 27 seconds and pump 7 more times then put the car in 3rd gear and hold for 8 seconds then put back in neutral and the problem is fixed now you will get unlimited cold a/c ;)
I have about 35K. Im waiting on a few parts. Hopefully it will solve the problem. I really dont want to have to take it to the dealership. I know they will charge me an arm and a leg
2004 is relatively old for RX8. What is your mileage? I have about 20.000 on my 2006 RX8. Compression id fine but not excellent... Saving money for overhaul in a year or two. Mazda is a troublemaker but very rewarding too. BTW when CEL is blinking on off it is usually something sinister and you should never RPM your engine... Let me know if you are planing a repair or what... Just curious.
You will have to get engine seals replaced and hope you did not kill your engine doing just what you did in this video. No compression in your wankel :-(. Big repair as this is relatively not extremelly expensive - about 2000 USD here in Europe for material + 1000 USD in work time. Original Mazda parts and dealer work. Not that bad for a car that is quite powerful and compared to engine repairs of such magnitude in for example Porsche or Volkswagen group vehicles (AUDI, Golf GTI etc.)...

@coolguy3432
the exclamation mark is my tire air pressure
the flashing one underneath it is on because i hadent reset it. It does that after the first time you turn it on after disconnecting the battery.
The one next to that is the seat belt light
the top middle is my traction control because it was off
the one under that is the handbrake
and the one all the way to the right is my check engine light because obviously, my car was fucked up
