  • 11 people dont understand English (points at RPC editors)

    =]

  • I agree, I don't edit fanart AT ALL anymore! 8D Im not deleting my fanart pics I have though, unless the original artist themselves ask me to. then i'll do it in a heartbeat. I've been practicing my drawing a lot lately, and I've even remade my recolor rpcs i made a year and a half ago ^^' I agree, I don't care if people steal my edits, my drawings are more important, BUT I will ask the person who stole the edit to delete it or give me credit.

  • Hi 8D (its rpcmakergirl, commented her a long time ago)

guess what 8D I havent edited fanart for 2-3 years,i shortened down my edits, and im getting better at drawing 8D

im going to be stopping editing, but not now (truth is,my oma died and she loves it when i edit, cause she thinks i made the pic better than the original.so for a while ima do that to make her happy up there :3)

but when i do stop, ima post my artwork up (ill stop when my tablets fixed or i get my scanner) :3 so yea....hi again xD

  • I admit, I DO edit. BUT!!! I do it to learn HOW to draw better. I do draw my own pictures, and I'm half decent freehand. I trace to learn muscle memory so I can know how to draw hands and anatomy. I don't claim the work as mine, I just claim the characters. I'm working on my ORIGINAL art through tracing to make my art better. If anyone says thats wrong, then tough, I trace to get better, and a lot of art sites and books I've consulted say that tracing is the best way to learn anatomy.

  • The best way to learn anatomy is referencing, not tracing. With tracing, you're not challenging your brain to figure out the little ticks about correct anatomy. What's more, tracing to get better with anatomy is nonsensical with anime or figures, because there's a variety of styles, differences in anatomy, and very little of it is realistic. EX: Ouran and Naruto, two immensely different styles.

Tracing isn't the same as referencing.

  • i'm an rpcer and i got too lazy too trace from the screenshots so i ended up drawing them from scratch. it takes me 2 days just too trace anything

  • @mikku54432: Then you're bad at tracing. Drawing from scratch is less lazy than tracing.

  • @Shingzyl i know but i'm still laughing at myself from my last RPC pic, it took me a month to finish the entire pic. :D

  • i am an RPCer, and yes I trace pics, but I try very VERY hard not to trace fanart, and really only use screenshots. I know damn well the picture isn't mine, I credit people. And frankly, please don't start anything with me, people who say editors that trace are stupid or whatever, really REALLY piss me off. Shut up, leave us alone. U can't stop us from doing what we love! Go get a life or hit on someone else. I'm done, I apologize for my fowl language, and nice vid ^ ^

  • @ChibiJade197: I've changed enough editors from editors to artists. =P So, quite frankly, don't get all uppity when my videos do show results and have helped a good deal of people break their bad habit of tracing.

  • I agree about editors.

  • Recolors. GTFO my internet.

  • hey can i say that i do rpc, i do edit but not to be recodnised. i do it for the craic and because it homes in my graphic skills. i can most certainly draw and paint, i recently had a painting in an art exhibition AND got an invitaion to submit more paintings for neat years one! i mean puhlease if someone who does the original art could put up a vid saying that thry dont like their work being used, that would be pretty helpful.

  • @KumoriBachiMakuri sorry about the mistakes =X

  • Many artists don't realize their art is being used as something to edit, however. SO, how are they to know? It's an editor's job to ask the original artist FIRST before editing and to credit said artist. Also, no offense, but I don't believe you on the art exhibit thing. =F

  • I'm editor, my drawings imoprov, and when I get to be good enough, I'll stop edit. I think it's wrong to edit over fanart, did it on a time, but I was ten and didn't know better... Think it's wrong to edit over fanart because... It's alot more personallyand the reasons you just gave. I don't think it's wrong to deit over others edits... Because they are edited too, right? Oh anyway, I like your video, and I think you got some good points in it... All from me...

  • I hate it when the rpcs look exactly like the original character...

  • Hello, sorry to bother you on your rant video. (Not in a bad way, lol) But, I edit screenshots so I can draw better. Like Sharinganfan08 said, my drawing has improved emensly. I only do it for practice. Would that be considered wrong?

  • Referencing would help more, in my opinion, but editing screenshots isn't wrong until the company starts pursuing copyright infringement cases. XD

However, do us all a favor and don't get mad at someone else for editing something you edited. o_O For some reason a lot of editors do that, and I just...want to smack them. They're getting mad at someone for editing their edit or their trace...it's so fricking hypocritical.

  • Lol, Okay, Thank you. I HATE when people whine about that! It's so annoying! Thanks again!

  • o common.

editing is not so worse, yeah ? as long as they don't say that they drew it by themselves. and: everyone edits. we all know that this stuff belongs to kishimoto.

  • No, people will edit over fanart and original art. THAT'S the problem. They go, "Hey it's okay to edit screenshots, so I'll disrespect EVERYONE'S art by stealing their hard work and editing over it myself". What's more, editors post it on deviantART, where edits don't belong. Period.

  • yeah, this people are bad... (dA) and that's what I was talking about. Editors on dA and of dAart.

When I was editing I never used a fanartpic. (ok now I'm drawing by myelf jejeje)

but the screenshotsediting isn't the same.

  • Screenshot editing isn't all that suitable, in my frank opinion. But I'd rather see that, than fanart and original art being used.

Frankly, drawing on one's own is the best method to take, even if you have to REFERENCE every time. =F

  • I do agree with you on the editing fanart stuff (i do edit over fanart sometimes, but not often, really only for couple pics,) but i really can't give credit to the original owner cause i get my pics off of photobucket, the only time i ever go on Deviantart is if i wanna edit bases or something, and i also give credit to the original creators of the anime if i make youtube videos with my rpcs in them, is there anything wrong with doing that?

  • Getting pictures off of photobucket and not finding the original artist of the fanart is wrong. You're not only supposed to give credit to them by name, but ask them before using their art as a base, because that was not the original intent of their art. It's like someone taking something you worked really hard on, and messing around with it without your OK. Some artists use their art as an emotional relief during hard times, and you never know what they were going through while drawing it.

  • Yea i don't think im gonna edit over fanart anymore, if i want a couple picture i'll just draw it instead 83, but i still think im gonna stick with editing, cause ever since i started editing i have noticed that my drawing has improved as well. and also when i say bases i mean bases that are already made. and most of the time bases are screenshots also

  • I draw my rpc, and then put it in a Naruto Background, but i still practise making my own backgrounds too. But is using a naruto background to put on a drawing i made stealing aswell? ^^'

  • To an extent, it is stealing the background, but screenshots I'm not as worried about as people editing fanart or original art by lesser known artists. So, yeah. *Shrug*

  • I have to agree with this video. I am an editor but I do not edit fan art. I also know that edited art is not your own art. I edit because it helps me learn how to draw correctly poses, anatomy, and expressions. I try my best to actully draw my rpcs, in fact, I hand draw them any chance I get. Drawing your rpcs yourself just seems to give yourself a positive pride towards yourself while editing is simply that: editing. In fact, once I get a scanner, I'm planning to stop editing all together.

  • That's good. =3 I hope to see your art someday. There's also using Oekaki boards and MS Paint to draw your characters, though. With a mouse, it is hard, but I know plenty of people able to use a mouse to make awesome work. It just takes dedication and practice. You could also always ask for a tablet for your birthday or Christmas. =3

  • Oh I've been trying MS Paint, and it doesn't look horrid but its all stiff and it might take a while to get used to it but I'm trying my best. Haha, I thought about getting a tablet, my birthday was 8 days ago! (drat! xD) I got a new computer so I can't complain too much...

  • Oekaki boards are good, too. =3 There's an Avatar the Last Airbender one and an Icha Oekaki for Naruto. Oekaki boards are a love child between MS Paint (if you use the pencil tool) and Photoshop (layers, yay!). Those may be easier to use, but I always hated to use mouse, so I egged for a tablet as soon as I found out about oekakis. XD

  • i understand what u are sayin. Yes,ima editor and an artist in training.but, then again 1- some editors,as myself, use their editin advantage to learn the details and the style of art so they can draw their own someday. 2- some editors claim they dont own anything and say that they only own the idea,so technically, they arent claiming the actual pic as their own. Im not a ranter,or a hater of antis. im neither. i think its all a stupid online war. dont u agree?(ps,i wont flag u,its just not rite^^)

  • My problem isn't about editors editing (although I don't like the practice) but the fact that so many will use fanart or original art that doesn't belong to them without permission from the original artist. Yes, it could be a learning tool for editors, but is it really fair to the original artist for their work to be used without their permission?

XD It's not an online war to me. It's just something online that needs to be changed so both parties are able to compromise.

  • i understand ya,and ima artist 2. And i would hate the fact if someone edited over my pics,so i try to usually ony use screenshots(most of the time). Anyways,i think that artists need to appoint those problems with editors nicely and editors compromise with them so this.....ranting thing will stop until someone wants to ruin the piece again. Also, its a double whammy when someone edits over an edit,am i rite?!

  • Personally, I believe an editor should still to screenshots or should be the one to find the original artist. An artist can have hundreds of drawings and people will save their work willynilly, without knowing when they upload it to photobucket, someone else will find it and possibly edit it from there.Since the editor knows what pictures they want to edit, and there are great engines like Tineye out there, they should find and ask the artist.Artists shouldn't have to track all their stuff down.

  • i agree^^ i will still edit, but ill keep a lookout and make sure not to edit too many artwork unless i know the original artist. Also, ima goin to draw my rpcs also when i get ideas^^ u know,i never really understand y people still criticize a ex-editor when they draw, like shizue. She draws now and people call her a mary-sue. thats goin a little overboard dontcha think?

  • I believe people are very angry at Shizue, still, because she never apologized to the deviantARTists she stole art from (originally).

  • she did on a deviantart. she worte a long letter apoligizing. but, truthfully,i do forgive her,but i think she need to say it with her own voice on a video ,am i rite?

  • That was actually an apology to her fans about how she edited. Not to the people she stole from. o3o Least not if I'm remembering correctly.

I personally think she needs a different character. XD Too many people see Shizue as stolen goods and, personally, just how she acted when someone edited over her edits was pretty immature.

  • i give credit to the original artist when i edit.

  • Do you credit by name of the artist? Do you ask the artist's permission before editing their picture? If you don't, then you don't give proper credit when you edit.

  • artist ^^

  • That's better than what a lot of editors do, so you get my respect for that. =D

  • alright ^^ thx!

  • woo! :D

    great vid

  • youre so awsome!

  • danke.

  • i agree, editing shouldent be done at all, not only is it uncreative and illegal, but you miss out on the rush of exitement you get when you draw , i draw my rpcs, you just dont get the same rush of exitement when you edit, ive been drawing for 6 years and i enjoy it, just go out and get a how to draw manga book, sure you wont be amazing at first, but if you practice you'll get better

  • OMG!!! I SOOOOO TOTALY AGREE WITH YOU ^^

    nah i don't care

    both drawers and editers rule!!

    nya!!! XD

  • (Yes, I am back to another of your videos with a comment!! XD )

I get where your coming from, sort of. The picture isn't there's. The character idea is. Maybe to you, editing is easy, all you need is to make new hair eyes and cloths. Practice original work already. Or something like that. That is where you are wrong, people practice editing to edit to their best ability. I practiced for a month or two, and am still learning. So, there is more to editing then you think.

  • Most editors don't put that kind of time into it, and the practice pales in comparison to drawing. Why spend so much time editing another person's artwork if you could use that time practicing your own drawing skills? Whether it's digital or on paper, if you're not making something from scratch, that you CAN own in it's entirety, what's the point?

  • An, irony, you make me giggle.

Drawing from scratch helps you more. What I CARE about right now, though, is that editors at the very least FIND the original artist, ask permission to use their art, and credit the artist by name. This applies to fanart and original art done by people not associated to an anime.

You can't claim to respect an artist if you steal their art.

  • hey i am an RPC editor and i put in all of my credits with rpcs in them that i do not own the original art so just put that they can do that it saves alot of trouble and besides if they have a problem with our rpcs they should just say so not ruin our hard work on making them

  • You're not doing hard work when you COMPARE how much harder it is to make an original piece. Pose, anatomy, clothing, flow, format, and a lot of other things go into making a piece of art what it is.

Why should they cater to YOU when YOU'RE using THEIR work? You should ask them if you can even edit it, before disrespecting a REAL hard worker.

  • yea but if they ruin our rpc edits then their no better than us plus if you put save as then the pic is still there so it won't ruin it

  • RPC edits shouldn't exist, for one. So there's no ruining when it shouldn't be done. It's illegal. You draw over someone else's art is violating copyrights galore. You still draw over someone's art, you DO ruin it.

Editors are in the wrong. They should be honing their own skills through real practice instead of trying to steal the talents of someone else through lazy means.

  • but if they don't know how to draw on paint or other drawing programs then its easier to at least start out with an edit then start drawing and screenshots end up blury before you even start editing

  • IT doesn't matter how the picture looks before you start editing. It's still WRONG. If you don't know how to draw on paint or other programs, you LEARN by PRACTICING or watching tutorials. You don't STEAL someone else's work and give it a forcible makeover just for YOUR own sake. It. Is. Wrong. And only self-serving.

  • for pete's sake just think about how the editors feel they don't do it for their own entertainment this is youtube for gods sake they can express themselves through editing it blows of steam and makes you feel better that is why i edit as a form of therepy for me

  • Drawing is better "therapy". You create it from scratch and it's much more rewarding. Just because editors can come up with excuses does NOT justify editing.

Learning to draw, on any program or with any technique, is more therapeutic, creative, and actual good than editing.

  • look i dealt with alot of crap in my life so i need something i already know i can do to blow off steam i can't just start learning how to ill have a meltdown before i even come close to getting better i can't account for what other people do but don't go and tell me to do something that i know i won't be able to do before i go nuts

  • Excuse me? You can't do something because you're go nuts? Kiddo, you're preaching to the choir. I've gone through plenty of bitter times in life as well, and all through it I WORKED ON DRAWING BETTER. I've moved five times, lost friends, gained friends, gone through uber bouts of depression and just had one of the hardest summers of my life and I STILL LOOK FOR IMPROVEMENT in my work.

Sob stories don't work on me, sorry.

  • if u think thats bad i have been abused for half of my life and had to leave almost all of my friends i am pretty much an outcast in my new school my sister lives with my dad and i hardly ever see her i have very few close people to me and one of them is dead the other is constently either at the doctors or in the hospital so if you think you have it rough then you are so wrong like i said in my previous comment don't try telling me to do something else for therapy

  • All teenagers feel abused. You're not. If you were, you'd be reported. My brother died when I was 2, all but one of my grandparents were dead by the time I was 4. My grandmother died when I was 12. My parents have been divorced since I was 4, barely see my father. My father has rheumatoid arthritis and probably won't live to see me marry. Currently, I'm on the brink of being isolated from ALL my family for an indefinite amount of time. But wait, there's more.

  • I moved away in the middle of my high school years from Ohio to Nebraska. Again, going to be left in the middle of the nation with NO family around, since my sister (who is 14 years older than me, but closest to me in age) is moving to CA and the rest of my family lives in OH. My worst summer? You don't know what its like to have the three closest people lie to you, betray your trust, and leave you a whimpering mess on the floor with paranoia issues and security problems.

  • So don't try bitching to me about how "hard" your life is that you can't even bother to learn how to draw correctly. Don't try to whine to me about you needing therapy when the art you use is the expression, the THERAPY, someone else took the time to make correctly. Everyone has a sob story. Don't try to use yours for sympathy. You won't get it. What are you? Thirteen? Fourteen? I'm eighteen, been through the phase you're going through. YOU CAN LEARN TO DRAW RIGHT. Editing is WRONG.

  • you know what i don't care but don't go giving ideas to my friend saying that she can't make an rpc cause i won't stand for itand don't message me or comment me again GOT IT

  • You can't demand all that much of me. Editing IS wrong. IT's copyright infringement. It's illegal. I will tell whomever I choose to NOT to edit, because THAT IS MY GOAL. TO get editors to stop editing and become better. You're ruining your potential when you edit, anyway.

The only reason not to learn how to draw correctly is due to PURE LAZINESS. Don't enable your vices upon someone else.

  • You have no right to edit over work. It's that simple. And I don't care about your sob story, cause we've ALL got issues, hon :).

  • I can understand where both sides are coming from. I was never really a really good artist at first but I practiced and got a little better and I never used paint to draw, I would draw by hand. I mean I am sure that you would be very mad if I took one of your rpc and edited over it and said that I drew this and it is 100% mine.

  • You know what's really sad about editors, they post their "vectors" on art sites like Deviantart, and people praise it like it IS freaking art! That just gets under my skin.

  • why u hate rpcs?u are envious? sry for my english ~~'' or why you make this?

  • *rolls eyes* No, I don't hate RPCs. I hate EDITS of artwork. That's what a lot of EDITORS do. Hence the difference between an RPC maker and an Editor.

I roleplay all the time, but I DO NOT steal someone else's artwork and mangle it for my own character. Those who do are disrespectful to the whole of the artist community.

  • i totally agree screenshots of edit shouldnt be allowed its copyright infringement

  • Haha! And on my birthday as well!

Oh, how lovely common sense is. Great job, and keep it up!

  • Happy birthday. =D And thanks.

  • ummm yeah

you basically covered my problem with rpc editors

edit pictures drawn by the creator all you want (note this still annoys me, just not as much)

touch fanart or original art and I have a complete and total problem with you.

  • Faved.

  • Actually, I was stating in HERE THAT FANART ONES are annoying and should have the permission of the original artist before being put into a video. It's even in the copyright infringement policy of YouTube. If the content doesn't belong to you, nine times out of ten, they'll take your video down unless the artist says it's ALRIGHT. However, should the artist actually lodge a complaint against you, you could be in deep nadgers with them. Bad juju.

You ARE breaking the law when you do that.

  • And MANY editors NEVER credit the artist, NOR do they ask permission from said artist to use their art (I'm talking fanart and original art not widely distributed, like common anime or manga). It is STATED in the YouTube rules that in order to use the art of someone else, you should ask their permission. I'm not going strictly by it, because I feel music is free to anyone in general and I GIVE CREDIT to the artists every time I use it.

  • And, ANY artist could get mad at any user for violating their copyright. I AM standing up for fanartists mostly and artists who have original stuff they do in their free time that gets pilfered into "remade RPCs".

Also, you can say you spoke to a worker on YouTube all you want, but not many will believe you did. It's heresay unless YouTube itself specifies what they care about in detail.

  • If Youtube cares so much about music, then why the hell do they have a list of popular and indie music you can put on your video? If I need to get permission for every video I put with music, I'll go ask Viacom, but they're such a big company that they won't answer back ever. Artists, they do answer back and quite vehemently too.

  • Thanks for sharing this Shingzyl. ♥♥♥ :)

  • No probs? o3o
