I know you're making these videos from a gambling perspective, so this is kind of irrelevant, but...
I do think Margarito deserved what he got. The jacked up eye, the TKO loss, all of it. Cuz he's a cheater. They suspended him for cheating cuz he's a cheater.
I know that has nothing to do with gambling, but it's still true.
We all wished for the full twelve but there's no denying Cotto completely dominated that entire fight (were not just talking 5 rounds), team Margo expected an old go forward only Cotto and based their preparation around that, they were also aware that Cotto was going to target the eye, team Margo just got outhustled by a brilliant performance. Margo would've needed a complete k.o and honestly it was'nt happening and even the doctors could see that, thus the stoppage.
I didn't like the stoppage either but Cotto did what he said he was gonna do.. go for the eye, he landed 86 of 210 just to the right eye alone (41%)...margarito's team knew that cotto's plan was to go for the eye.. if margarito will learn how to box and defend yourself maybe they wouldn't stop the fight. The eye wasn't gonna survived another round!!
I absolutely agree with you and think all this "Cotto dominated" talk is ridiculous. I think people WANTED Cotto to avenge his loss so badly they're reshaping what really happened in the fight. Cotto may have still won, but Margarito was having his best moments and it was coming up to his best rounds. I also applaud you for the McKloskey fight reference which I hold a similar view on. I think McKluskey was just getting his stride when it was stopped for a tiny cut.
umm you know nothing of boxing and its clear that your thought on the fight are clearly based on how you thought margarito was going to win which probably means you lost lots of money... also at one point you said that margarito threw 700 punches and yes he did but why didnt you mention how many he landed tried to make it about how many punches were thrown. cotto went 51% vs margarito 22% miguel landed more and if you throw 700 but only land 150 punches clearly show margarito could not see
Realised calculated over 10 rounds not 9..therefore figures should read!!
Fight 1 Marg threw 841 and landed 218!! Fight 2 Marg threw 700 and landed 157!! This still shows that over 9 rounds Marg threw 141 less shots and landed 61 less punches...and this is all without the assistance of loaded gloves!!
Its all ifs and buts about what was going to happen but in the 9th when Marg had his best round Cotto too had his best round of the fight.
The ref made the right decision stepping in...as Marg had no plaster he was less effective as he has shown to be since he was caught vs Mosley!! Also as you said neither fighter had been hurt, and Cotto didnt look as if he was going to wilt like in the first fight!! If the fight went on longer, IMO Margarito would have taken more punishment as Cottos 'compubox' stats show he was landing at a higher % & Marg wouldve taken 9 mins of clean shots to his eye, would be interested to here your views?
Along with this, the compubox comparison is flawed, assuming Marg was not loaded in fight 1, he threw 931 shots in 10 completed rounds and landed 243..compared to fight 2 where he threw 700 and landed 157 shots...in the same time frame he has thrown 231 less shots and landed 86 less punches!!!
Therefore to say Cotto would have tired like in fight 1 is a big assumption when Marg after 12 rounds would struggle to match his connects over 10 rounds in the first fight..& this time with no plaster
I disagree with your point of view here...i agree that the fight was basically a carbon copy of the first fight but if you look at Cottos face in fight 2 compared to fight one there is NO WAY you cannot tell me that there is an obvious difference..IMO due to handwraps not being involved!!
Also going by compubox...in the 9th Margs output was the highest, but connect percenatge was not the highest!! Also using compubox, Cotto had his most succesfull round both in terms of connects and % landed
@dwyer sorry but coffee box numbers dont tell you everything otherwise we can say Pacman bt marquez in the third fight which he never.
Point aside, in the last fight Cotto looked shambles in the 9th round, he looked alot better in this one. Cotto stamina looked better, he was way more accurate, he was clinching alot better, he wasnt trapped against the ropes like the last fight. Regardless of how the outcome happened, it was the correct one. You should be giving props to cotto.
C'mon Dwyer, what do you expect? Margacheeto brought all the extra attention on himself, if it wasnt for that your right, they would have let an eye injury of that level go. Margarito is a cheater so he's lucky they even let him fight.
What are you talking about Rocky(movie)? Eat your crow and go sit in the corner. Margarito wasn't overcoming anything. Cotto showed that he improved his game plan the entire fight what were you watching. No the fight was not a carbon copy of the first fight. Do you think the doctor is looking at Compubox #'s before examining a fighter? lol....20 mins of dribble...lol
@lern1079 nonsense. It was a premature stoppage. I'm bitter because I bet cotto by decision. I think he was going to get a decision but he was definitely fading. It was not a carbon copy, I agree but Margo was coming on and Cotto was fading and we had 3 rounds to go and Arum had a lot to lose if Cotto lost.
@andrelebaron Personally I would have liked for it to continue so I could continue to see Cotto tattooing Margo. Cotto threw 56 punches in each the 8th and 9th round landing at a 43 & 50% rate, respectively. Cotto threw 57 punches on each of the 3rd and 4th round landing at 49 & 37% respectively. How was he fading? Cotto was not in trouble in any of the rounds including the 9th round. It wasn't like Margarito's connect percentage was incrementally going up towards the end of the fight either.
@lern1079 It might have happened that way but Cotto looked like he was getting tired to me. We all knew the whole issue in the fight was whether Cotto could outbox Margo for the distance or whether Margo's pressure and Cotto gassing would eventually allow margo to get to Cotto and we never got to find out.
Sometimes you have good insight but hear just like the Ariza thing you're way off. I would think also you being in the legal profession that you would have maybe said that part of the reason for the stoppage was because the NYSAC didn't want to be legally accountable for Margarito __ years down the line. Also Margarito's pressure is only because he only KNOWS one way to go, FORWARD. If he can't sit down on his punches, there's nothing on them and there wasn't any on those late in the fight
The Doctor, Referee, and three judges should all have to give a series of post-fight press conferences so that they can explain to the Paying public some very important things. These fighters train too hard to be treated so mysteriously.
no one can dispute that cotto looked better at the end of this fight then in the 1st fight..by the SECOND round cotto was bleeding in the 1st fight..cotto's face swells easily now cause of all the wars he's been in, it had nothing to do with margs power even yuri forman had cotto a little swollen. margs punches didn't have the same effect on cotto this time. No way marg would ko cotto in the last 3rd's cause cotto was in WAY better shape going into the last rounds then in the 1st fight. Easy win
Cotto was fine all that bruising was congenial swelling from previous fights and he hasn't recovered from AM's loaded wraps years ago - you dont recover from something like that. People saying "we dont know what would've happened in the last 3" you could argue he hadnt won ONE round at all. People saying the fight shoud'nt been stopped are grasping at straws Margaritos career would've been over if that continued. Not that he doesnt deserve that.
I'm a Cotto fan but he was beginning to wilt under Margarito's pressure.Had the fight gone on it would have been very interesting.
Though Cotto did have Margarito's surgically repaired orbital socket on radar.Cotto was teeing-off on it & to Margarito's credit he never even blinked. He came forward relentlessly throughout, even taunting Cotto repeatedly. This could've been a classic.Margarito cheated the first time & got what was coming to him.
I re watched the fight and Margarito was getting battered. Cotto's Connect percentage was increasing every round. Before it was stopped Cotto was landing 50% of his punches. If anything if that fight had go on Miguel may have stopped Margarito on accumulation.
Dwyer you are talking out of your ass on this one.....your clutching at straws with your comments on Margarito winning 3 different rounds on three different cards. And it reminds you of Khan v McCloskey????? The doctor is there to ensure the fighters safety, and knowing Margaritos eye problems coming into the fight it was always gonna be stopped if his eye became an issue.Cotto won clearly and impessivley and was only going to make THE EYE worse.Sorry but i think you are completely wrong
@ibhof2 agree...cotto and his corned did a great job...and i dont think marg had any chance at all...he was very patient, and i dont even think that the damage on his face was done by clean blows...
@ibhof2 slim. I'd say in the order of 15%. Cotto was gassing and starting to get hit. But, he wasn't as hurt as in the first fight at that point, he had more left and Margo's eye was closed which was making him more susceptible to counters. And oh yeah, Margo's punches didn't seem to be as effective for *some* reason. but, I saw Cotto tiring and starting to get hit. Margo's corner wasn't lying when they siad, "this was our best round" before the stoppage.
Not often i disagree with Dwyer but he is WAY OFF on this one, Cotto had a dodgy spell in the mid rounds but clearly overcame it and was looking stronger by the rd towards the end, Margo was looking weaker by the round, none more so than the 9th, there was NO CHANCE of a repeat of the first fight, it was either gonna be a Cotto whitewash decision or a Cotto late tko had it continued
I believe Margarito had a chance to win...I hated the way they stopped the fight... Everybody should know that Cotto is the better boxer and it was so predictable that Cotto was gonna look good in the early rounds...Will never know what the real outcome would have been since they stopped the fight...No excuses but I really thought that Margarito had a great chance of possibly stopping Cotto in those last rounds..If Cotto got the decision after 12 that would be ok but very unsatisfying indeed...
Thank you! I completely agree. I know this was all done to protect cotto, I'm sure the scumbag arum had something to do with this. Also, the funny thing is the doctor who stopped the fight is the same doctor that was trying to stop Margarito from getting his license in ny.
This is exactly what I thought I'll point to this video to anyone asking me about the fight. Cotto's face wasn't "clean" as he said, the difference between this and the first fight where more than 100 landed punches and not the punching power
well the one difference in this fight from the other one is margo is blind in one eye this time as well as Cotto wasn't fading as much like the last fight. Don't confuse the first fight with the second.
I have a hard time believing that Margarito could see from his right eye. That thing was completely shut. He lost his peripheral vision and was deliberately getting hit on the same spot. Unlike the first fight, Margarito's punches seemed to have less and less effect as the fight progressed (similar to his fight with Pacquiao). He might have been busier in the 9th round, but Cotto was actually getting his second wind at that point. It might sound crazy, but Cotto was starting to bully the bully.
Dwyer I like you dude. But fuck man u always whine like a mofo when u lose money. U should have listened to ur own "rule" and not bet on a guy with such a serious injury. Also Margo might have landed his second highest percentage but he wasn't landing with any power. His power was taken by then and Cotto was no where near being stopped. Yes boxers have fought with worse but frankly if u're an employee of a legel entity that is trying to CYA wouldn't u have stopped it too? U know u would have.
@owengg17 AGINE how did he lose money when he straddle his bet are you guys even wacthing his videos? and this fight went down almost the same way the first 1 did. things that were diffrent cacthweight 153,ring size, glove size,Margs eye, extra DR,<-- when this news broke i went naked on my bet picking Cotto as my main bet and Cotto footwork. The fight was stop to soon Margs was coming on strong at the end Cotto was loseing ground. iam glad they stop the fight i won my bet
@soloM81 Lol, ya I wondered about the straddle as soon as I finished posting this comment. So ya, i can't remember what he straddled but I'll give him the benifit of the doubt. I still can't stand him whining about something everyone and their dog saw coming. And no this fight didn't go the same way the first one did, Cotto controlled the action much better then he did last time. Clinching and walking Margo back were big improvements. Glove size was also key.
shut!!! your gay black ass up !!! how the fk you saying he answer to doc about how many fingers he see , was your big fat ass there? and if dude had already got his eye bone fk up . why didnt he try blocking the jabs and upper cotto was delivering , he underestimated cotto thats all !!. he say pac punch didnt hurt and what happened to eye? . cotto won no cheating puerto rico kabron !!!!!!1
@CirocSunrise22 Thats what you get for cheating. That dude is a criminal. In the first place he should be making all that money by being a cheater and coming of a lose.
100% agreement on this side dwyer. Hopkins/Dawson, Mayweather/Ortiz, and now Cotto/Margarito.........Those would have all been great fights had they gone the distance.
@deftrojan14 Cotto vs Margarito is diferent. Margo's eye was getting damage man think about that. Margarito shoulndt be fighting anyway because of his eye.
Dwyer..I was at the fight. 3 things I noticed. Cotto's face had abrasions but no where near the swelling and trama of the 1st fight. 2nd Cotto was gased by the 6 round the 1st fight. He definitely had more energy this fight. 3rd Cotto did tie up Tony in the later rounds. Now the eye issue. I called this to 2 co-workers at the fight. I said if the eye swells, the dr's will stop the fight. My co-workers disagreed. I said no way the NY Athletic Comm lets the fight continue if the eye is bad.
@spankybighead cont'd. The Comm will not have Tony's potential blindness on their hands. As for my opinon of the fight. Cotto was winning. However Cotto can't hurt Tony, that's obvious. If there was no eye issue, I do think Tony would walk down Cotto all night. However I don't believe Cotto's punishment was as severe as the 1st fight and his strategy to hold and block the uppercut would have given him a unanimous win.
hey @dwyer70905 i agree with what your saying but I'm not convinced that Miguel Cotto would have gas out and lost.. you rice some good points but you didn't talk a lot about the possibility of Antonio Margarito having illegal wraps in the first fight.. and i like you thought Margarito would win.. but i don't gamble.. could you please address that matter (wraps)
I wanted Cotto to win and predicted he would win but I was disappointed with the early stoppage. I agree with Dwyer. The second haft of the fight was supposed to be the moment of truth.
However, every time Margarito got inside on Cotto or had him up against the ropes, Cotto would push him backwards - not allowing Margarito to throw his weight behind his punches. I think Cotto could have done that for the rest of the fight, but we'll never know for sure.
Dwyer, Cotto was winning this fight 8 rounds to 1 on all 3 cards going into the 10th. In their first fight, Margarito was ahead going into the 10th. Cotto boxed the perfect fight! You've always been a Cotto critic and not once in this video did you give Cotto any credit. Shame on you!
Cotto should be undefeated. He had to fight at a catch weight and he was the champ. * Booty Juice. Margarito* another cheater. Arum supporting cheaters? Cotto is the best fighter in the TOP RANK STABLE. Yeah I said it.
i agree it was stopped early. cotto was winning but he made a lot of mistakes and used up a lot of energy. if he had planted his feet some more and really sat down on his punches instead of bouncing around so much, he could have gotten a legit KO or at least banged margarito up enough that he could have dominated the late rounds.
Disagree, Cotto was boxing beautifully, and would have continued to do so until the final bell or until Margaritos eye literally falls out of his head...chalk it up as a misjudgement Dwyer and move on, still got love for ya though!
i dont think the crowd mattered in this fight, or that cheato lost the first half of the first fight.
he lost three quarters of this one, and cotto's face was in far better shape than the first one.
it WAS unsatisfying, however, margo was going to lose, period. He never was in the fight, no power, no crack in his fists. margo showed that without plaster, he NEVER belonged with the elites.
@angelrod75 I am a fan of both fighters. It was a bitter sweet fight, but to say that Margarito had no crack take a look at Cotto's face. I believe the differences in this fight were: Cotto's Movement, the size of the ring, the gloves, the catch weight (psychological advantage) Margarito's previews eye injury and Margarito seemed slower than usual. I thought they were going to fight on even terms but it was not so.
@JESUSlog45 The catch-weight did little to help Cotto over Margarito in terms of psychology considering the 1st fight; fighting above 147 in the 1st place favored Margarito heavily. Cotto corrected his balance, tightened up his guard, used superb lateral movement, used leverage on the inside, and landed the more accurate punches as the better technician. Eye or no eye, Margarito's punches weren't bothering Cotto much beyond a few scuff marks and could offer little else stylistically.
@SlashFan60 I am not arguing or denouncing Cotto's win. Like I said before. I am a fan of both on a professional level. Cotto though seems to be a more caring and a charismatic personality. I did mention Cotto's movement, which you reinstated. I also believe the ring size helped Cotto because he is the boxer. The gloves were also of his choosing. These three basic things gave him the edge. He had room to work limiting Margarito's pressure and had the boxers gloves.
@JESUSlog45 " the size of the ring, the gloves, the catch weight (psychological advantage) Margarito's previews eye injury and Margarito seemed slower than usual. I thought they were going to fight on even terms but it was not so."
OBVIOUSLY you are a fan of both...Your man lost! he is not elite, never was. Be a fan of the sport, not the individual, THIS is the ONLY reason I tune into Dwyer's channel. He is a boxing conosseur, not a fanboy.
i watched the hbo and top rank commentary and video. top rank usually doesn't have as good quality sound as hbo, but you could hear cottos punches on that swollen eye.I couldn't hear any of margarito's punches. in the post fight interview with top rank and margarito, antonio is talking and blood just starts dripping down his face. a lot of blood not a trickle, i say they should have let the fight continue until his eye fell out
i have to disagree in the first fight cotto was cut after round two and was done after round six in my opinion in this fight cotto took margaritos punches better even though he have markings on his face he was in no way done in fact at the end of the fight he looked like he didn't want it to end just as much as margarito there was no way margarito was gonna win and the point that you left out was that cotto landed 43% of his power shots throughout the fight thats a huge number
The two fights you mentioned were close fights, Morales and Wolak were both in those fights. Margarito didn't look like he was in the Cotto fight at all. How many rounds did you give Margarito? I only gave him the 7th round.
That eye was hideous, there's a couple of fights that should have been stopped in the past that I can think of with eyes bad like that. The Wolak fight should have been stopped tho that one was close. This Margarito/Cotto fight was one sided with Cotto putting a one-sided schooling on Margarito. Cotto could have arguably won every single round on the scorecards. I think I gave Margarito the 7th round, not the 9th round. I don't know how ppl gave Margarito the 9th round, he hit nothing but air.
u r stating that *other* fights werent stopped with the eyes like the examples u said.
but its different because its happend previously by pacman the same eye same fighter and surgery was done and it broke the orbital bone. but to the rest of ur examples it hadnt happend to them recently previous ex:morales hadnt had a shut eye in a while other then mainda fight...
Dwyer, maybe you needed more time to respond to the fight because your arguments are weak. The doctor and New York State Commission had alot of pressure in making sure Marg's health didn't suffer greatly in the fight. If significant damage would've occurred to his eye, there would be legal consequences. I'm sure they wouldn't have stopped the fight if it was close, but Marg was losing every round. Although Cotto looked relieved it was stopped, I'm sure he was prepared to fight three more rounds
Your videos always look out of sync when I watch them. I've watched it on two different operating systems. Windows 7(out of sync), Snow Leopard(out of sync). I don't think its my computer because every other video I watch on youtube is in sync with the exception of yours and the hodgetwins(another youtube channel) videos look out of sync sometimes too.
@dwyer70905 It was the previous damage, on top of the new damage, that stopped the fight. I think AM was counting fingers with his good eye. Also, Cotto's trainer, like many others, wanted to see Cotto do more damage to AM. Sure, I think AM could have fought on, but would his eye still be okay? I don't know. Yes, we've seen more swelling before, but swelling isn't always an accurate sign for the real damage done.
@dwyer70905 Yes, Cotto looked beat up, but I'm pretty sure that he'll always look beat up after fights, and this is because of the previous damage that Margarito was responsible for. The guy hasn't healed 100% since 2008. In fact, I think the damage is permanent. His face is just prone to that type of swelling, and redness.
From a fight fan perspective... i wish the fight would have continued. I thought that If it goes the distance margarito hits hard enough to give cotto another K.O.. But Key word... "IF"..... I also care about the fighters themselves, and I don't want to see them get seriously hurt. So i respect when a doctor or referee steps in. That is the authority that is given to him and he has it for a reason.
@dwyer, Max Kellerman thinks that the doctors are signaling to stop the fight in a way to kinda hide it from the public to see, hoping that the crowd will think the Ref made the decision to stop the fight and not the doctors.
That's my view from a doctors perspective. But from a boxing judge perspective margarito fought stupid. He KNEW that Cotto was going to target his eye. He KNEW Cotto has improved in footwork and skill. He KNEW people were saying the doctor may stop it. But he still fought the same way he fought the first time, which is taking shots and attempting to walk him down. That was stupid. He had no strategy to protect himself, nor to take control of the fight (not ineffective aggression).
The stoppage was undoubtedly premature, but Margarito wasn't going to win the fight. Cotto was in far better shape and Margarito was in far worse shape. Margarito had one of his best rounds % wise in the 9th but Cotto himself had his best round % wise during the 9th (50%). I thought Cotto was landing some of his hardest cleanest shots in the 9th also. I'd like to have seen the fight continue but I don't believe Margarito was in position to win this time.
I have no problem with a doctor stopping the fight. Margarito had the bone around his eye BROKEN. Then he had a surgery ON his eye. It doesn't matter if Margarito could see how many fingers were being held up. If the fight continued there could have been permanent damage to him. Hell he might still get permanent damage if his eye is infected. Margarito is the type of fighter that wont quit, he said he'll die in the ring. A doctor can't allow Margarito to kill himself or hurt himself in the ring
i agree, i think they should have let the fight continued to fight.
1. Margarito answered correctly when dr tested his eye.
2. Margarito fought the same way before and after the eye swelled up.
3. This is not ballet or golf, this is boxing.
4. If they're worried about the eye, why NYSAC allowed Margarito to fight in the first place. They allowed him to fight because Margarito's eye is fit for fighting.
MIGUEL COTTO'S FACE LOOKED BETTER AFTER THIS FIGHT.
IN THE FIRST FIGHT HIS FACE WAS INSANELY SWOLLEN FROM BEING BLUDGEONED WITH PLASTER OF PARIS.
IF THE FIGHT GOES 12 ROUNDS AND MARGARITO LOSES HIS EYE, MARGARITO WILL START CRYING AND TRY TO SUE.
MARGARITO IS A CHEATER, CAUGHT RED HANDED.
PEOPLE NEED TO EXEPT THAT. HE COULDNT DO ANYTHING AGAINST ANY OPPONENT SO FAR WITHOUT PLASTER. THIS FIGHT WOULD HAVE LOOKED EXACTLY LIKE THE PACQUIAO MARGARITO DECISION HAD IT GONE THE DISTANCE.
if Margarito can protect his bad eye none of this happens He could not an cotto wanted to hit that eye more Margarito eye was shut an it was his fault he should not protect his eye.
Folks think about it.... If Margos corner would have done their job and stopped the Pacman fight when it was obvious his face was destroyed he would have had a better chance to beat Cotto.... and still people wanted to see him 3 more rounds, further taking his chances of doing his job in the future. Just ask his family if the fight should have continued. The Doctor knew there was a pre-excisting condition and acted accordingly, for god sakes he has a plastic lense on right eye!!!
Margarito did not hurt Cotto like the last fight, if it was not stopp for me cotto will have won the decision.Because the worst storm miguel cotto past it that was the 6/7 rounds margarito could not see the left of cotto. And Miguel Cotto gets better in round 11 and 12. Like the mosley/Clottey/Mayorga fight
Margarito best round was the 6 and 9 but he did not hurt cotto. He put a lot pressure on Cotto but he could not hurt him
Miguel Cotto has a lot the scars tissue from he's fights, is ovbious that he cuts fast and swollen even the jury foreman fight that happen.
Glambers like yourselves should took in considerations margarito eye that could have been injured or hurt and stop, that the fight was NY in Miguel Cotto backyard.Miguel cotto had the advantage like Margarito took the advantage with the hand wraps in 08
Good point but its hard to watch someones eye get destroyed if your a doctor. But the doctor needed to decide right off the back to stop the fight or to not stop the fight. The interruption of the DR. in his corner must have been very annoying when your trying to win.
cotto did a much better job of muscling tony this time around aswell as blocking uppercuts. he also circled tony well but i scored round 9 big for tony because cotto was gassing out and doing the same shit he was doing the first fight, just going from rope to rope.
I agree 100% and HBO makes it look like Tony used loaded wraps in fight one by using this fight as proof they used bigger gloves this time and everlast brand
and this is why i put all my money on Cotto as soon as i heard about all the fuss they where making about the eye. i was like as soon as they see his eye swelling up the fight would be stop very hollow win for Cotto and my thoughts on round 9 was very eye opeing Cotto was slowing down the tide was turning in Margs favore. I would like to have seen how Cotto would have handle the last 3 round but the writing was on the wall on how this fight would end Dwyer
get the fuck out of here the difference were the plaster, accept defeat like a man you screwed up and lost, stop crying and give hes respect to Cotto and stop talking shit
@lowki07 he didnt lose any money he straddle his bet HE MADE MONEY DID YOU EVEN WATCH THE VIDEO MORON . DO YOU EVEN KNOW HOW BETING WORKS. iTS NOT ABOUT HUGGING YOU HERO BALLS BUT ABOUT MAKEING MONEY
@soloM81 stick the cap lock key up your ass, Looks like we got another bitter wetback. Goddamn it must be sad to be a mexicunt, also learn how to spell.
@lowki07 not a wetback and i made alot of money on Cotto I DONT GIVE A SHIT ABOUT THESE FIGHTERS ALL I CARE IS ABOUT MANKING MONEY SO YOU CAN SHOVE COTTOS BALLS UP YOUR ASS
I WILL NEVER EVER BE A DAM GROUPIE OF A FIGHTER LIKE YOU, YOU DICK PULLING ASS FAG . how about next time you wacth the video instead befor you end up looking like a jackass OWNED
Marg was going to lose whatever happened. You could tell from round 2 in the first fight that cotto was going to struggle to see the final bell. Cotto never looked in any bother at all in this one. Look at him after the fight, his face was barely damaged. It all goes to show what a little plaster of paris can do.
i agree, i wish the fight would have continued, cotto was landing the harder punches even in the 9th round. i never saw cotto's head bounce around the way margarito's was the entire fight. i would have liked to see cotto continue punching that eye for another 3 rounds
Cotto was in a way protected. He tends to gas out in the late rounds, specially when he fights a fight like the one Margo puts on. Cotto fans can say what they want, but we'lkl never know how it would've ended.
I agree. I've been saying the same thing. Cotto was also getting tired... he basically was rescued from what would have been the toughest 3 rounds of the fight.
Also, considering the damage margarito was consistently taking during each round, while cotto is targeting in eye, it seemed to be a mercy stoppage and yes if i had to guess i think cotto was on his way to knocking margarito out anyway, Was margz eye completely shut in the 9th? i would say yes, therefore he wudnt of passed the test anyway, That would make it the doctors fault for not conducting the test, so in that way yea the doc f'd up and we didnt get to see a knockout.
come on MNA! Cotto was tapping that ass,Margarito health is a serious risk... three serious beatings in a short period of time... don't be a sore looser
Dwyer ur a cotto hater stop making excuses for the scumbag he got what he deserved and what about the good things that cotto did this time that he didn't do last fight.
Cotto by KO was the bet along with margz by KO. Obv im coming off a bit bias, but U did not mention the compubox numbers of cotto in the 9th round, it looked to me he was really starting the grapple a bit more with margarito and landing more clean effective punches compared to margarito. Margz right eye looked closed shut to me, i know in the 8th he passed the eye test, but this is someone who already had an eye surgery, obv i liked the stoppage
Dwyer, I think your wrong on this one, This is not the fifties and Margarito has the rest of his life to live with that eye. Cotto was able to tie up Margarito ala Shane Mosleys strategy. The only thing that would have happened is Cotto would have had more time to hit that eye. Margarito has already shown that he has no regard for his own health nor does his corner which they proved during the Pacquiao fight. Btw, I follow your channel and 9 times out of ten I think your spot on.
@Penetzi Agreed! Cotto was landing some of his best shots before the fight was stopped. Miguel was starting to push Margarito back. If that fight had gone the full 12, not much would have changed besides Margarito's health.
Might I add that, besides Margo's swollen eye, Cotto's face was the most fucked up of both fighters. I looked at Margo's face without any glasses when he gave an enterview right after the fight, and his face was pretty much clean.
I also think that Margarito didnt do enought like in the first fight. Lot of those punches where grabbing cotto and punching him 10 times in a row. I know they count but they had no power behind, they where just to accumulate points and fuck yeah cottos face was fucked up
I think the fight should continue but the doctor did the right thing here. If something happened to the eye "we dont know how the eye is" but his doctor license is in play. Remember that Margarito had also a surgery to correct the cataract. Maybe it was a mistake to appoint a doctor. I wasnt satisfy with the end eather but Margarito was way behind and he needed a KO to win. He was hurted a couple of times. I think it was the publicity the media gave to the eye thing.

Margo would've needed a complete k.o and honestly it was'nt happening and even the doctors could see that, thus the stoppage.
gamecollect101 2 months ago
I didn't like the stoppage either but Cotto did what he said he was gonna do.. go for the eye, he landed 86 of 210 just to the right eye alone (41%)...margarito's team knew that cotto's plan was to go for the eye.. if margarito will learn how to box and defend yourself maybe they wouldn't stop the fight. The eye wasn't gonna survived another round!!

you are really reaching here...
xtrajently 2 months ago

MajorHank1 2 months ago
The ref made the right decision stepping in...as Marg had no plaster he was less effective as he has shown to be since he was caught vs Mosley!! Also as you said neither fighter had been hurt, and Cotto didnt look as if he was going to wilt like in the first fight!! If the fight went on longer, IMO Margarito would have taken more punishment as Cottos 'compubox' stats show he was landing at a higher % & Marg wouldve taken 9 mins of clean shots to his eye, would be interested to here your views?
MajorHank1 2 months ago
Along with this, the compubox comparison is flawed, assuming Marg was not loaded in fight 1, he threw 931 shots in 10 completed rounds and landed 243..compared to fight 2 where he threw 700 and landed 157 shots...in the same time frame he has thrown 231 less shots and landed 86 less punches!!!
Therefore to say Cotto would have tired like in fight 1 is a big assumption when Marg after 12 rounds would struggle to match his connects over 10 rounds in the first fight..& this time with no plaster
MajorHank1 2 months ago
I disagree with your point of view here...i agree that the fight was basically a carbon copy of the first fight but if you look at Cottos face in fight 2 compared to fight one there is NO WAY you cannot tell me that there is an obvious difference..IMO due to handwraps not being involved!!
Also going by compubox...in the 9th Margs output was the highest, but connect percenatge was not the highest!! Also using compubox, Cotto had his most succesfull round both in terms of connects and % landed
MajorHank1 2 months ago
@dwyer sorry but coffee box numbers dont tell you everything otherwise we can say Pacman bt marquez in the third fight which he never.
Point aside, in the last fight Cotto looked shambles in the 9th round, he looked alot better in this one. Cotto stamina looked better, he was way more accurate, he was clinching alot better, he wasnt trapped against the ropes like the last fight. Regardless of how the outcome happened, it was the correct one. You should be giving props to cotto.
rjlad 2 months ago
C'mon Dwyer, what do you expect? Margacheeto brought all the extra attention on himself, if it wasnt for that your right, they would have let an eye injury of that level go. Margarito is a cheater so he's lucky they even let him fight.
rebelskumm 2 months ago
What are you talking about Rocky(movie)? Eat your crow and go sit in the corner. Margarito wasn't overcoming anything. Cotto showed that he improved his game plan the entire fight what were you watching. No the fight was not a carbon copy of the first fight. Do you think the doctor is looking at Compubox #'s before examining a fighter? lol....20 mins of dribble...lol
lern1079 2 months ago
@lern1079 nonsense. It was a premature stoppage. I'm bitter because I bet cotto by decision. I think he was going to get a decision but he was definitely fading. It was not a carbon copy, I agree but Margo was coming on and Cotto was fading and we had 3 rounds to go and Arum had a lot to lose if Cotto lost.
andrelebaron 2 months ago
@andrelebaron Personally I would have liked for it to continue so I could continue to see Cotto tattooing Margo. Cotto threw 56 punches in each the 8th and 9th round landing at a 43 & 50% rate, respectively. Cotto threw 57 punches on each of the 3rd and 4th round landing at 49 & 37% respectively. How was he fading? Cotto was not in trouble in any of the rounds including the 9th round. It wasn't like Margarito's connect percentage was incrementally going up towards the end of the fight either.
lern1079 2 months ago

If he can't sit down on his punches, there's nothing on them and there wasn't any on those late in the fight
marzblkman 2 months ago

Easy win
cotto280 2 months ago

@ibhof2 agree...cotto and his corned did a great job...and i dont think marg had any chance at all...he was very patient, and i dont even think that the damage on his face was done by clean blows...
takechiakajay 2 months ago
@ibhof2 slim. I'd say in the order of 15%. Cotto was gassing and starting to get hit. But, he wasn't as hurt as in the first fight at that point, he had more left and Margo's eye was closed which was making him more susceptible to counters. And oh yeah, Margo's punches didn't seem to be as effective for *some* reason. but, I saw Cotto tiring and starting to get hit. Margo's corner wasn't lying when they siad, "this was our best round" before the stoppage.
andrelebaron 2 months ago
Not often i disagree with Dwyer but he is WAY OFF on this one, Cotto had a dodgy spell in the mid rounds but clearly overcame it and was looking stronger by the rd towards the end, Margo was looking weaker by the round, none more so than the 9th, there was NO CHANCE of a repeat of the first fight, it was either gonna be a Cotto whitewash decision or a Cotto late tko had it continued
shehd1983 2 months ago

Also, the funny thing is the doctor who stopped the fight is the same doctor that was trying to stop Margarito from getting his license in ny.

well the one difference in this fight from the other one is margo is blind in one eye this time as well as Cotto wasn't fading as much like the last fight. Don't confuse the first fight with the second.
Digs259 2 months ago

@deftrojan14 Cotto vs Margarito is diferent. Margo's eye was getting damage man think about that. Margarito shoulndt be fighting anyway because of his eye.
maforo85 2 months ago
Dwyer..I was at the fight. 3 things I noticed. Cotto's face had abrasions but no where near the swelling and trama of the 1st fight. 2nd Cotto was gased by the 6 round the 1st fight. He definitely had more energy this fight. 3rd Cotto did tie up Tony in the later rounds. Now the eye issue. I called this to 2 co-workers at the fight. I said if the eye swells, the dr's will stop the fight. My co-workers disagreed. I said no way the NY Athletic Comm lets the fight continue if the eye is bad.
spankybighead 2 months ago
@spankybighead cont'd. The Comm will not have Tony's potential blindness on their hands. As for my opinon of the fight. Cotto was winning. However Cotto can't hurt Tony, that's obvious. If there was no eye issue, I do think Tony would walk down Cotto all night. However I don't believe Cotto's punishment was as severe as the 1st fight and his strategy to hold and block the uppercut would have given him a unanimous win.
spankybighead 2 months ago
hey @dwyer70905 i agree with what your saying but I'm not convinced that Miguel Cotto would have gas out and lost.. you rice some good points but you didn't talk a lot about the possibility of Antonio Margarito having illegal wraps in the first fight.. and i like you thought Margarito would win.. but i don't gamble.. could you please address that matter (wraps)

I switched off when you made a reference to Rocky. You are long winded and there is way to much filler.
lee1977 2 months ago
I wanted Cotto to win and predicted he would win but I was disappointed with the early stoppage. I agree with Dwyer. The second haft of the fight was supposed to be the moment of truth.
However, every time Margarito got inside on Cotto or had him up against the ropes, Cotto would push him backwards - not allowing Margarito to throw his weight behind his punches. I think Cotto could have done that for the rest of the fight, but we'll never know for sure.
Adrianology101 2 months ago 2
Dwyer, Cotto was winning this fight 8 rounds to 1 on all 3 cards going into the 10th. In their first fight, Margarito was ahead going into the 10th. Cotto boxed the perfect fight! You've always been a Cotto critic and not once in this video did you give Cotto any credit. Shame on you!

batosmak 2 months ago
i agree it was stopped early. cotto was winning but he made a lot of mistakes and used up a lot of energy. if he had planted his feet some more and really sat down on his punches instead of bouncing around so much, he could have gotten a legit KO or at least banged margarito up enough that he could have dominated the late rounds.

zn23000 2 months ago
i dont think the crowd mattered in this fight, or that cheato lost the first half of the first fight.
he lost three quarters of this one, and cotto's face was in far better shape than the first one.
it WAS unsatisfying, however, margo was going to lose, period. He never was in the fight, no power, no crack in his fists. margo showed that without plaster, he NEVER belonged with the elites.
angelrod75 2 months ago
@angelrod75 I am a fan of both fighters. It was a bitter sweet fight, but to say that Margarito had no crack take a look at Cotto's face. I believe the differences in this fight were: Cotto's Movement, the size of the ring, the gloves, the catch weight (psychological advantage) Margarito's previews eye injury and Margarito seemed slower than usual. I thought they were going to fight on even terms but it was not so.
JESUSlog45 2 months ago
@JESUSlog45 The catch-weight did little to help Cotto over Margarito in terms of psychology considering the 1st fight; fighting above 147 in the 1st place favored Margarito heavily. Cotto corrected his balance, tightened up his guard, used superb lateral movement, used leverage on the inside, and landed the more accurate punches as the better technician. Eye or no eye, Margarito's punches weren't bothering Cotto much beyond a few scuff marks and could offer little else stylistically.
SlashFan60 2 months ago
@SlashFan60 I am not arguing or denouncing Cotto's win. Like I said before. I am a fan of both on a professional level. Cotto though seems to be a more caring and a charismatic personality. I did mention Cotto's movement, which you reinstated. I also believe the ring size helped Cotto because he is the boxer. The gloves were also of his choosing. These three basic things gave him the edge. He had room to work limiting Margarito's pressure and had the boxers gloves.

Houstone2ndward 2 months ago
i have to disagree in the first fight cotto was cut after round two and was done after round six in my opinion in this fight cotto took margaritos punches better even though he have markings on his face he was in no way done in fact at the end of the fight he looked like he didn't want it to end just as much as margarito there was no way margarito was gonna win and the point that you left out was that cotto landed 43% of his power shots throughout the fight thats a huge number
acetheking08 2 months ago
The two fights you mentioned were close fights, Morales and Wolak were both in those fights. Margarito didn't look like he was in the Cotto fight at all. How many rounds did you give Margarito? I only gave him the 7th round.
JayFeliceW 2 months ago
That eye was hideous, there's a couple of fights that should have been stopped in the past that I can think of with eyes bad like that. The Wolak fight should have been stopped tho that one was close. This Margarito/Cotto fight was one sided with Cotto putting a one-sided schooling on Margarito. Cotto could have arguably won every single round on the scorecards. I think I gave Margarito the 7th round, not the 9th round. I don't know how ppl gave Margarito the 9th round, he hit nothing but air.

TheRestlessMinds 2 months ago

That is the authority that is given to him and he has it for a reason.
hatemadness 2 months ago
@dwyer, Max Kellerman thinks that the doctors are signaling to stop the fight in a way to kinda hide it from the public to see, hoping that the crowd will think the Ref made the decision to stop the fight and not the doctors.
aznvedz 2 months ago
That's my view from a doctors perspective. But from a boxing judge perspective margarito fought stupid. He KNEW that Cotto was going to target his eye. He KNEW Cotto has improved in footwork and skill. He KNEW people were saying the doctor may stop it. But he still fought the same way he fought the first time, which is taking shots and attempting to walk him down. That was stupid. He had no strategy to protect himself, nor to take control of the fight (not ineffective aggression).
hatemadness 2 months ago
The stoppage was undoubtedly premature, but Margarito wasn't going to win the fight. Cotto was in far better shape and Margarito was in far worse shape. Margarito had one of his best rounds % wise in the 9th but Cotto himself had his best round % wise during the 9th (50%). I thought Cotto was landing some of his hardest cleanest shots in the 9th also. I'd like to have seen the fight continue but I don't believe Margarito was in position to win this time.
iamrob7 2 months ago
I have no problem with a doctor stopping the fight. Margarito had the bone around his eye BROKEN. Then he had a surgery ON his eye. It doesn't matter if Margarito could see how many fingers were being held up. If the fight continued there could have been permanent damage to him. Hell he might still get permanent damage if his eye is infected. Margarito is the type of fighter that wont quit, he said he'll die in the ring. A doctor can't allow Margarito to kill himself or hurt himself in the ring

The fight should have continued. Complete crap.
kurt23407 2 months ago
Folks think about it.... If Margos corner would have done their job and stopped the Pacman fight when it was obvious his face was destroyed he would have had a better chance to beat Cotto.... and still people wanted to see him 3 more rounds, further taking his chances of doing his job in the future. Just ask his family if the fight should have continued. The Doctor knew there was a pre-excisting condition and acted accordingly, for god sakes he has a plastic lense on right eye!!!

wao @dwyer70905 you very mad because just margarito loss
javy2489 2 months ago
@javy2489 he was gonna lose anyway
javy2489 2 months ago
Margarito did not hurt Cotto like the last fight, if it was not stopp for me cotto will have won the decision.Because the worst storm miguel cotto past it that was the 6/7 rounds margarito could not see the left of cotto. And Miguel Cotto gets better in round 11 and 12. Like the mosley/Clottey/Mayorga fight
Margarito best round was the 6 and 9 but he did not hurt cotto. He put a lot pressure on Cotto but he could not hurt him
javy2489 2 months ago
agree

Miguel Cotto has a lot the scars tissue from he's fights, is ovbious that he cuts fast and swollen even the jury foreman fight that happen.
Glambers like yourselves should took in considerations margarito eye that could have been injured or hurt and stop, that the fight was NY in Miguel Cotto backyard.Miguel cotto had the advantage like Margarito took the advantage with the hand wraps in 08

1 freaking hundred percent agree with you Dwyer......well said man

Good point but its hard to watch someones eye get destroyed if your a doctor. But the doctor needed to decide right off the back to stop the fight or to not stop the fight. The interruption of the DR. in his corner must have been very annoying when your trying to win.
Darcsied27 2 months ago
I wish it continued, would've like to see that cheaters head snap around the ring a bit more but oh well. The better man won.
JimB667 2 months ago 2
He was getting destroyed the entire fight. This time no plaster to protect him.
zn23000 2 months ago
cotto did a much better job of muscling tony this time around aswell as blocking uppercuts. he also circled tony well but i scored round 9 big for tony because cotto was gassing out and doing the same shit he was doing the first fight, just going from rope to rope.
uknown786 2 months ago
I agree 100% and HBO makes it look like Tony used loaded wraps in fight one by using this fight as proof they used bigger gloves this time and everlast brand
Cypressparkboxing 2 months ago
@Cypressparkboxing tony used plaster against cotto and tried to do it against mosley....did he do it against CINTRON??? maybe
ekingh22 2 months ago
Complely agree dwyer! You juts proved your boxing mind again!
Margarito had huge momentum going into round 10 period!
3 rounds are a long time! anything could have happened!
BigBaus08 2 months ago 2
and this is why i put all my money on Cotto as soon as i heard about all the fuss they where making about the eye. i was like as soon as they see his eye swelling up the fight would be stop very hollow win for Cotto and my thoughts on round 9 was very eye opeing Cotto was slowing down the tide was turning in Margs favore. I would like to have seen how Cotto would have handle the last 3 round but the writing was on the wall on how this fight would end Dwyer
soloM81 2 months ago
get the fuck out of here the difference were the plaster, accept defeat like a man you screwed up and lost, stop crying and give hes respect to Cotto and stop talking shit

soloM81 2 months ago
Marg was going to lose whatever happened. You could tell from round 2 in the first fight that cotto was going to struggle to see the final bell. Cotto never looked in any bother at all in this one. Look at him after the fight, his face was barely damaged. It all goes to show what a little plaster of paris can do.
rickmcn1986 2 months ago
@rickmcn1986 Agreed!
bellito78 2 months ago
Cotto is a disgrace.
CraigKramer 2 months ago
i agree, i wish the fight would have continued, cotto was landing the harder punches even in the 9th round. i never saw cotto's head bounce around the way margarito's was the entire fight. i would have liked to see cotto continue punching that eye for another 3 rounds
gangstanikes 2 months ago
Cotto was in a way protected. He tends to gas out in the late rounds, specially when he fights a fight like the one Margo puts on. Cotto fans can say what they want, but we'lkl never know how it would've ended.
1REVINT 2 months ago
I agree. I've been saying the same thing. Cotto was also getting tired... he basically was rescued from what would have been the toughest 3 rounds of the fight.
MstrOpaI 2 months ago
Also, considering the damage margarito was consistently taking during each round, while cotto is targeting in eye, it seemed to be a mercy stoppage and yes if i had to guess i think cotto was on his way to knocking margarito out anyway, Was margz eye completely shut in the 9th? i would say yes, therefore he wudnt of passed the test anyway, That would make it the doctors fault for not conducting the test, so in that way yea the doc f'd up and we didnt get to see a knockout.
ekingh22 2 months ago
come on MNA! Cotto was tapping that ass,Margarito health is a serious risk... three serious beatings in a short period of time... don't be a sore looser
paulmallo1 2 months ago
Dwyer ur a cotto hater stop making excuses for the scumbag he got what he deserved and what about the good things that cotto did this time that he didn't do last fight.
ericsonrivera 2 months ago
@ericsonrivera He mentioned it. Not going crazy for Cotto doesn't make you a heter.
1REVINT 2 months ago
Cotto by KO was the bet along with margz by KO. Obv im coming off a bit bias, but U did not mention the compubox numbers of cotto in the 9th round, it looked to me he was really starting the grapple a bit more with margarito and landing more clean effective punches compared to margarito. Margz right eye looked closed shut to me, i know in the 8th he passed the eye test, but this is someone who already had an eye surgery, obv i liked the stoppage
ekingh22 2 months ago
Dwyer, I think your wrong on this one, This is not the fifties and Margarito has the rest of his life to live with that eye. Cotto was able to tie up Margarito ala Shane Mosleys strategy. The only thing that would have happened is Cotto would have had more time to hit that eye. Margarito has already shown that he has no regard for his own health nor does his corner which they proved during the Pacquiao fight. Btw, I follow your channel and 9 times out of ten I think your spot on.
Penetzi 2 months ago
@Penetzi Agreed! Cotto was landing some of his best shots before the fight was stopped. Miguel was starting to push Margarito back. If that fight had gone the full 12, not much would have changed besides Margarito's health.
bellito78 2 months ago
You are 100 % right Dwyer we will nvwe know what would happed in that fight!

HOPE YOU HAVE CALMED DOWN AFTER THE CHISORA POST FIGHT VIDEO LOL
jabjabgrab123 2 months ago 2
Might I add that, besides Margo's swollen eye, Cotto's face was the most fucked up of both fighters. I looked at Margo's face without any glasses when he gave an enterview right after the fight, and his face was pretty much clean.
1REVINT 2 months ago
@1REVINT I posted this comment before the vid ended, Dwyer mentioned it. LOL!
1REVINT 2 months ago
Thank you for bringing this up, I think is a shame they didn't give Margarito a shot!
x2SIKxDelucious 2 months ago
I wish the fight had continued. Cotto was landing some great shots before it was stopped.
bellito78 2 months ago
I also think that Margarito didnt do enought like in the first fight. Lot of those punches where grabbing cotto and punching him 10 times in a row. I know they count but they had no power behind, they where just to accumulate points and fuck yeah cottos face was fucked up
IdidnotFartedIswear 2 months ago
I think the fight should continue but the doctor did the right thing here. If something happened to the eye "we dont know how the eye is" but his doctor license is in play. Remember that Margarito had also a surgery to correct the cataract. Maybe it was a mistake to appoint a doctor. I wasnt satisfy with the end eather but Margarito was way behind and he needed a KO to win. He was hurted a couple of times. I think it was the publicity the media gave to the eye thing.
