  • For some reason I always felt this scene was never really needed in the film. It just feels like they threw it in just to try and pad out the film a little bit.

  • @kurtcobain279489 This scene was needed... For RiffTrax to do this!

  • @kurtcobain279489 There was a lot of egotistical director self serving crap in the movie.

If they wanted to pad out the film, maybe they should have kept the explanation for who created the Marauders Map instead of trying to get the audience to understand the crucial plot point of who really betrayed the Potters at warp speed.

  • @Knightmessenger: "Egotistical director self serving crap"?

The movie already has a lot of dialogue explaining that Sirius, James, Pettigrew and Lupin were friends in school. Going through the trouble of explaining the Marauders Map would serve to just repeat those points.

Given the choice between being repeating stuff that's already in the story and adding... well... anything else, there are very few directors who would think that the best thing for the movie is to appease the fanboys.

  • @ogredm Well, the director also was behind the bigoted I Am Autism video so he can go f*** himself.

There's no excuse for leaving stuff out of the book so you can add totally unrelated stuff to please the director (shrunken heads, many locations change, different uniforms...)

I would have liked to have seen more consistency.

  • @Knightmessenger: (Response pt. 1)

Well the movie can't possibly incorporate everything from the books. This is a film based off of a 300 page book, the later films are based on books well over 500 pages. The script writers (who have more control over what gets cut out than the directors do) MUST condense the material, otherwise we'd have movies that are well over four or five hourse long. And who would watch (or more importantly: finance) that?

  • @Knightmessenger (response pt. 2)

Beyond all that, film is a much different medium compared to the written word. The immense level of detail that gives the books so much of their depth would be very boring to try to pull off in a film. As such, it makes total sense to cut out a lot of it in order to focus on the main story. What they add is to make the film more... you know... filmlike. To present the world of Wizardry without having to show long, boring, expository, verbal narratives.

  • @Knightmessenger (response pt. 3)

And finally: if you want to have the story told to you in a way that just carbon copies the book, my best advice would be to just read the freakin' book.

The scriptwriter wrote this scene, the director shot it, the music department added music, the editor kept it in and the RiffTrax crew did a great job making fun of it. Don't like it? Cry somewhere else.

  • These singing parts of the riffs always make me crack up. Whether they are making up their own lyrics or they are singing actual songs.

  • Ahahahaha "evil childrens choir" priceless

  • "Oh good, its Hogwarts state champion evil children's chorus."
