  • Open Source is a lot of hype. There is a lot of popular software out there that is not open source, such as Excel. It's not popular just because it is open source, that's not what makes things popular. Excel is popular because it is useful, not because it is open source. Free as in Beer is not what GPL is about, GPL is restrictive software, not free software. Free software is BSD licensed.

  • Re: programming... most statistical programs can run via a similar approaches. But I appreciate the argument as to why programming is superior.
