I'm trying to transcribe Dexter Gordon's solo in this tune. Not an easy feat by any means but I'm hoping it will give me a better understanding of how to solo over this piece so when I go to improvise over it, I can pull some quality licks out of my pocket. Wish me luck!
All these "Thumbs up, if you're under *whatever age*" comments sound to me like a bunch of pretentious kids that feel like they're better than everyone else their age. THERE, I SAID IT!
oh come on... how can we do this? many peolple think jazz as a classy thing, and you feel kind of special if you're young and you listen to it... drop it, ok? this is just about enjoy it and feel it; I know young people love jazz, and the answer is as simple as saying that art will always be loved. Music can't be priced like that; it's there to be listened and so I'm doing.
I don't give a fuck if your under 18 and you like jazz, i'm not giving you a thumbs up because that's what you're supposed to like jazz. anybody who hates jazz is fucking stupid, regardless of age.
well... I used to be a hard rock bassist for a few years. But that got really boring since you can only play each song EXACTLY THE SAME WAY for every fucking show! People want to hear the way you play it on the album...
All that so call "action" and "life" were just adrenaline really, and it gets really tedious when you play like 2 or 3 shows a month... eventually every rock song sounds exactly the same... I don't even listen to rock radio any more.
@Gapiro Those comments are ridiculous. This is obviously jazz. Jazz doesn't mean swing 8s. The rhythm feel is jazz bossa, which makes it kind of related to latin music.
@NovaBlue95 I'm 19 now but my old high school was notorious for our Jazz Ensembles which i was a part of, so it was unquestionable that i grew up loving Jazz haha
To whomever dislikes this song: the day you come up with a song better than this, I might almost sort of possibly understand your dislike for it. If not, just enjoy and admire the guy.
Dexter is one of the great Masters of Jazz. Other people might have their options, but Dexter is always loved and admired by me. Coltrane, Rollings & Dexter!!
How can 17 people NOT like this??!! That being said everyone has the right to their own opinion. I guess a lot of people don't get the fact that most of todays "modern" music was derived from either jazz/blues or classical.
The people who don't like this are probably kids who have no sense of rhythm, and think anything that doesn't have drums louder than the other instruments (all electronic) is "elevator music".
If all a kid is exposed to is sweets, he or she will never develop a taste for good food. Most people today have never heard anything but the sappy kids' stuff played on the radio.

I saw him 3 times in the 70s..he dominated the stage in every way but was ALWAYS kind & very courteous..even when he could hardly stand upright.
