VHT tint paint will leave a crappy job if you go to fast.. If you go slow it will look shiny almost as if you have covers on. But not to slow or it will run. And it's gotta be warm enough outside so it will dry right..
@Pkumar1923 ya i put mine one kinda heavy coats with bright halogen lamps on them to make them dry faster to prevent runs. the VHT was actually pretty decent, but after it was fully dry you still would want to lightly sand and buff them to a shine. they didnt want to lay to clean or as shiny but with alittle wet sandpaper and a buff they shined right up great! tho i dont have the civic anymore. its long gone. wish i kept it tho i had it looking really nice. not what it was in this vid of course

those are pretty tight, but do you ever get pulled over for those? i smoked my tail lights out, but i got pulled over and the officer told me to change them or else i'd get a ticket (bullshit, i know). so i just bought some totsena tail lights with a black background. they look nice though.
i never got pulled over for them. but i only had them fully tinted for maybe 6months then i went with just tinting the upper red and i left the lower clear clear and put in some red leds.

if your to dark for inspection you got 2 options..... easiest is just go to a junk yard or ebay and buy some stock taillights to slap on for inspection and swap em back afterwards ;)
or sand the tint off the taillights with some 2K grit sandpaper and re spray them with a lighter layer of tint this time.
ok for your lights all you need to do is clean them off with some goof off or other paint remover then light sand and either clear coat to look stock or do a light coat of VHT this time :)
stick with VHT NITE-SHADES. its just like spray paint. the more you spray the darker it gets.
but if you want to TRY window tint then before removing the backing film use a heat gun or hot hair dryer and try to stretch the tint smooth on the taillight before you ever remove that backing film and applying.
Pt.3: The trick is that if the backing inside the lense is black or flat black, then you need less tint on the outside lense to get good darkness. And what happens is your taillights look just as black in day and night but your tint is more transparent so you wont get in trouble for the dimness of your taillights. Another thing to consider cause cops are idiots about little things is---->
Pt.2: Ok so it deleted what I put a second ago. lol OK so You buy taillights either carbonfiber background on the inside or black, or the hard way is to take your lenses apart and paint the background flat black yourself and then put the lenses back together. Once you do this all you have to do is buy the tint and buy it light compared to what you would normaly do, or do liquid tint and do a thin coat, till it looks dark as you like.
<--- reflectors. Most of the time the only reason they can ticket you for tinted taillights is because either the reds and ambers arent bright enough or they cannot see the reflectors. And if you do your tint like i suggest, you will eliminate the problems. Sometimes they will still be anal about the reflectors though, and in that case, you can just buy extra little custom reflectors to put on the bumper. Hope that helped somebody! PEACE!

So how is it that they can get away with it but not us, ok well first off the cops have a dumb ass rule about if your car comes with something then its ok, but besides that, you can get away with it by doing it how mazda did it. And it will be alittle difficult. You must buy taillights a certain way, ---->

sand with a thousand grit, spray a light coat then wet sand with 1000 grit and do another light coat. might need a third then do a protective clear coat spray.

runs in the paint? what..... i didnt have any runs on the lights! i sanded the lenses all smooth and then tinted them. only lines on them is from the actual lens being in 2 pieces. it is like that from the factory on the center taillights, back up light section.

light can exit tinted objects but not enter them... so yes it can. Harder to see in the day but easier to see at night. Turn on the dome light on the inside of your car at night and try to see out. You cant. But be on the outside looking in... you can see the whole inside of the car even through the darkest windows.
And you filmed them where them in the worst position(where the sun is against the tails!!) This is perfect because I really need to see how they look with the sun shinning on them and the brake lights, turn signals are still pretty visible!!! thanks for this vid!! How many coats did ya use??
truthfully man. it takes afew tries to get it just right!!!! its not just coats it depends how much you put on during that one coat and how many coats. really hard to get just right!
I know black spray paint wont shine any light through if you just spray it on. You have to spray iton, let it dry, then pop it in the oven until the paint starts to flak off, then remove from oven and scrape off any paint left over. In the end, if youve done it right, you will have a nicley tinted tail light. And fuck you to the guy who gave me a thumbs down, asshole.

well ive redone my taillights... so now you can fully see red brake lights from some red superflux leds, as well as turn signals and backup lights perfectly.
so far NO cops are here have complained about them! but i have got a verbal warning for my liscence plate cover. ;)

VHT is the only stuff you should ever use for tinting any kinda lights!

I know black spray paint wont shine any light through if you just spray it on. You have to spray iton, let it dry, then pop it in the oven until the paint starts to flak off, then remove from oven and scrape off any paint left over. In the end, if youve done it right, you will have a nicley tinted tail light. And fuck you to the guy who gave me a thumbs down, asshole.

very sick! smoked tail lights are the way to go. yea i just got pulled over for my smoked tail lights and headlights up here in Pennsylvania.. i gotta remove them in 5 days.. so beat. keep on rockin those just dont get stopped!

well ive redone my taillights... so now you can fully see red brake lights from some red superflux leds, as well as turn signals and backup lights perfectly.
so far NO cops are here have complained about them! but i have got a verbal warning for my liscence plate cover. ;)

yea i know PA sucks in regards to their car laws, I would have done that, however, i dont feel like getting pulled over everywhere i go lol.

thanks and so far around here i havent been messed with for them! i even got pulled over last week by some crummie sherif at night.... he thought i was driving cause i swerved my car over alittle cause his tailgating @ss was blinding me by his headlights! what a PRICK! but only thing he could say was my liscence plate light was out... WHICH ITS NOT! its just green bulbs.LOL he was just looken for a reason to pull me over for drunk driving! BUT no ticket at all! ;)
