I get the basic principal I think but your head moves up and down during the swing. I've always been taught to "keep the spine angle" and to avoid an up and down motion with the head. If you look at (say) a video of Bobby Jones' swing, his head is amazingly stable. You obviously have superior coordination. I wonder if that is why the up-down head can work for you.
thanks for this video. it truly identifies a problem I've had my entire golfing career, swaying. how i'm going to break the habit is another matter. Shawn Jack Nicklaus teacher Jack Grout would grab Jack's hair during the swing to try to get him to keep his head still....Bad idea?
Shawn, this vid is a great education for me as I still do not have good confident feel at address. Just wondering about your hand position at address. It seems around left leg thigh which is almost impact position. Do you favour this position for all irons, wood, and driver? or just irons?
Hey Shawn, love your vid's. I have to say you are the best ball striker I have ever seen. I have incorporated your 60/40 weight shift and pre-swing tilt and its made a world of difference in my game. I can now control the distance, flight and spin of my ball better than ever.
this is one your greatest vids yet!! it explains some of the things that people (I ) was confused about (ie weight on left leg during back swing does not need to be kept there) . Perfect - your the best man! keep up the great work!
When you do the tilted spiral and place the weight on the left side does your left hip/left side "fly open" and if so is that okay or does it make it more difficult to get the hips turning properly?
C no evil wow that's a nice training aid I'm getting that soon. I'd love to get the bottom of my arc further ahead of the ball. My swing does lack a lateral hip move to the target.
When the nail is hit or the ball is pinned into the door frame, would the nail go perpendicular to the door frame or would it be going in at an angle specially if the Ball, Grass and Ground are to be in play?
@mjs0039 Slightly upwards with driver ( a couple degrees), perpendicular with low driver, then it goes in slight variations of down through the divot from the 3 wood (shallowest) to the lob wedge (steepest); Shawn
Shawn, when you have your braced tilt and hands forward at address, does your club face naturally 'open' to the target? Or do you square it to the target after you set up? Thanks.
@CarolinasPGApro Hehe, no, it is called "C No Evil" and it is a Training aid designed by another Pro Canadian Friend of mine; you will see it on my store page on my website; it will forward you to his. I love this tool for the door frame analogy...it really is perfect for it and has many other applications! Shawn
Hi Shawn, no offense, but i'm a follower of ur videos over the years. Your swing has 'evolved' to more & more like the Stack & Tilt swing. Am I wrong? or u r infusing some good nuggets from all sources to great such great looking swing? :)
@YangLYY Not even close!! Contrary to what you see them do, I have a very specific anatomical way of gripping, allowing the arms to swing instead of keeping them to the body, bracing against my tilt instead of throwing my tilt all over the place and our way of "Stacking" means your centre of gravity is ALWAYS supported by the lower body and there is never a need for video analysis to manipulate yourself into positions; my swing has evolved yes, it keeps getting better with our principles.
Shawn....I did what you said and braced behind the ball and was hitting it well. Then a pro told me that when I did this, my shoulders ended up being aimed to the right of the target. When you brace and tilt, are your shoulders still aimed at the target, or do the tend to go right. It was hard to tell from your video?
@Andamangolfer888 Your pelvis and rib cage will already be in the backswing so yes, your "shoulders and hips" will appear closed to the imaginary target line; I will be uploading a down the line view to satisfy your pro's misconceptions...:) Shawn
Don't need to wait for the snow to melt. I go to my front lane and hit birdie balls. (Just loosing some balls in to the snow, but I'll find them in the spring.)
@kyernst They are "Real Feel Golf Mats" you will see the add on my website's store page; they are just awesome; we redid the whole indoor facility already with them and are starting to redo the range with them as well; Shawn
great job sensei Shawn on emphasizing the FEEL of the weight in the swing! I appreciate that you showed the iron, wood and driver usage of the braced tilt. Really impressed with using a high tee for wood! More power to you sir!
I can never transfer my weight good in my down swing, when I try to brace myself I end up hitting the ground before the ball. I end up keeping my weight on front foot the whole swing and feeling restricted like you mention but at least I can hit the ball, just doesnt have the power I want but I cant seem to shake it.
very nice video. I always thought that you must put your weight on the right leg for the driver but I guess I was wrong. I will try what you have shown and see how it goes. Thanks again for another great lesson.

When did you first start using the idea of a braced tilt and effortless momentum in your golf swing? Or was the idea developed over time?
Thanks!
