I'm pretty sure Run Shoes was in the set. It was rather inspiring to see the whole crowd give us the finger, but we didn't have a song with 'finger' in the title. Maybe next time!
LOL ... What a trippy story. I think I would have run off the stage with my tail between my legs. Kudos to them for sticking it out and doin what they came to do. Im curious tho...was switching to glide big yet when this happened? I noticed they mentioned playing it...I would have thought the audience would have gotten into that song. I LOVE IT!!!
The only thing about Hendrix opening for the Monkees back in '67 was that the crowd was mostly young teenage girls, about 12.When the Kings opened for Jeff Beck, it was mostly young adult guys.I dont think 12 year old girls would give Jimi the finger...
I have an idea -- tell me what you guys/gals think:
When people pop the upcoming DVD into their player, on-screen text appears saying something like, "Jeff Beck Is Still Here -- 30 Years of Extreme Rock 'n Roll." Then Jeff appears on camera (arranged beforehand), talking about whatever. Crowd booing is heard (a la Denver), and objects start flying at him. He retreats off the set.
New text appears: "Just kidding." Then the Kings footage starts, with this Denver interview appearing later.
That story was hilarious!! I remember hanging out with the band after a show in Huntsville, Ontario. Me and a buddy went to see them, and we heard lots of stories from them. Can't wait for the DVD
I commend their sense of humour. I would have been around nine years old and not yet listening to much "New Wave" when this took place, but all that was soon to change...
I saw The Kings in Milwaukee in May 2005. Got some pics with the band and an autographed flyer, to boot! The Kings rocked - one of the best live shows I have ever seen. I hope to see The Kings again...soon!
I was living in Nashville when The Kings are here came out. My brother and I literally wore the album and a phonograph needle (remember those?) completely out in a couple of months. I can't for the DVD!
Great story Kings!!! I hope that dumb promoter is a promoter no more!!.

Members of the audience were yelling their request til they were blue in the face.
The Kings didn't seem to hear them.
Out of desperation, they resorted to throwing their own shoes hoping they'd get the message that they wanted to hear Run Shoes Running...

Hopefully "Run Shoes Running" was on the set list...
I'm glad you guys can laugh this off and move on!
Probably not as violent, but can you imagine the audience response when Jimi Hendrix opened for The Monkees in 1967??!!!
